Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT - Even just by looking at the subcategories, one can see that these two overlap. See also Harassment and Bullying.- jc37 23:39, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Murdered Australian children[edit]

The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:47, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming
Nominator's rationale: The large majority of articles under these categories are focused on the event rather than the victim, which is to be expected, as most children are unlikely to have independently acquired notability beyond WP:BIO1E (with the exception of royalty, who make up most of the non Murder of... articles here). These categories should be renamed to Category:Child murder in Foo, to put the focus on the events rather than the victims, and each reparented to the respective Category:Murder in Foo and a new Category:Child murder by country. I'm aware that this change will necessitate manual checking to properly recategorise those who died outside their home country, but they should make up only a small minority of cases. I haven't nominated the parent Category:Murdered children, as, for now, it should continue to include Category:Fictional murdered children (and Category:Children who died in the Holocaust, which should be re-parented there if this nomination succeeds). Paul_012 (talk) 18:19, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support Comment. I mostly support this, but how will the parent categories that are nationality-related be handled? For example, murdered American children will include Category:American children who were murdered in other countries. Mason (talk) 01:54, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My proposal would be to remove the categories from the Fooian children tree. The rare individual articles that fit the example should be re-parented to Category:American children (or an appropriate diffising subcat thereof) and Category:American people murdered abroad, if they aren't already categorised as such. As I mentioned, this will require manual checking. I'm prepared to help with this if the CfD goes through, but I can't promise that I will get to all and every single category member. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:37, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Mason (talk) 19:00, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(second choice) Alt proposal: splitting these categories into (A) Category:Child murder by country of murder and (B) Category:Murdered children by nationality. Compare my proposal to split Category:Missing person cases by country into (A) Category:Missing person cases by country of disappearance and (B) Category:Missing children by nationality.
Splitting rationale: The Category:People by country tree is notoriously ambiguous and frequently mixed up with the Category:People by nationality tree; I've been trying to improve the distinction with lots of renamings in recent weeks. Mason correctly raised this concern. Although it may lead to a lot of overlap, nominator Paul_012 might want to give this alt proposal to split this tree serious consideration, especially by comparing it to my "missing person cases by country" split proposal, with which this tree is obviously closely connected. I'd like to invite you both to participate in that CfS as well. Good day, NLeeuw (talk) 07:14, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:CATDEF. This is a recently created group with limited participation and inconsistent membership that has only released a few statements. This is unlike other United Nations members, such as NGOs or regional blocs.
There's also the verifiability issue, as this is not a group that is formally an United Nations observer nor an established organization (and there's not any mention of it in the main article) NoonIcarus (talk) 11:50, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, redundant category layer, the subcategory suffices. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:34, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only two subcategories and former countries do not need a history category per se. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:24, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Video games with AI-versus-AI modes[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: listify/delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 19:19, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category seems to fall afoul WP:OC, specifically that the categorization is Trivial or of Non-defining characteristics. In my view, this is about on par with something like "Video games which let you select Mono or Stereo sound". A majority of games listed here are intended for human players, but incidentally, you may turn off all the humans. The subcategorization feels useless to me: the games are not purpose-designed for AI competition, nor is the feature particularly meaningful (you can't swap in player-created AIs or do much with it beyond adjusting difficulty level, for example). A category for a side effect does not seem useful.
-
"AI vs AI" is a broad and notable subject of its own - consider, for example, internet chess championships / AI-vs-AI StarCraft / the entirety of Programming Game but those are purpose-designed systems for AI players to compete. I don't think this category stands on its own. Hornpipe2 (talk) 15:57, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I agree that a game mode is not defining. As far as I know, "AI versus AI" is not a genre unto itself (I assume that would fall under the simulation genre instead). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:58, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Listify - This is a game feature, not unlike other lists of games by feature. But it does require explanation, hence why a category isn't the way to do this. (or in other words, per WP:BEFORECAT.) - jc37 13:41, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
