Size of non-free images[edit]

Hello, once again, thanks for your image uploads; however, just a reminder that non free images have to be as small as possible in order to comply with Wikipedia's non-free guidelines, which are as follows:

  • images should be rescaled as small as possible to still be useful as identified by their rationale
  • Often, one may encounter an original, high resolution image that can be reasonably scaled down to maintain the overall artistic and critical details

For example, before I scaled the image down, File:Bowser Time Gauge.png was way over what it needed to be in order to convey the message, both in data and in resolution. Thanks. Androids101 | Visit me! | talk | contribs 02:39, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 22dragon22burn. I have reverted your edit to File:Mario Stadium (Mario Sports Mix).png (the reverted edit can be found here). It's important to word statements about copyright status as unambiguously as possible; your edits, well-intentioned or not, made the copyright status less clear. Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Tokyo Tower. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. --DAJF (talk) 00:43, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Resizing non-free images[edit]

I noticed that you have begun resizing non-free images and I'd like to thank you for that; however, it doesn't really change anything as the original version is still accessible. I recommend resizing the image using paint, Photoshop or GIMP before you upload, additionally if you want to upload it still please put {{non-free reduced}} after resizing so the original can be deleted. Thank you for reading, CyanGardevoir (used EDIT!) 04:00, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your editing style[edit]

Hi, I've been noticing you edit various Mario articles. While you do a lot of good work, I have noticed particular editing patterns reminiscent of game cruft that are actually not encouraged on encyclopedic articles. I believe these patterns have developed from your former experience editing on the Super Mario Wiki, which is more laid back and geared towards fans of the series.

The most minor issue is that you're often inconsistent with how you write numbers and you flip-flop constantly, like "twenty" to "20" to "twenty" and back, over and over. The Wikipedia Manual of Style has concrete guidelines for numbers.

One problem is that you often write from an in-universe perspective, projecting emotions or intentions onto fictional characters. For example "Bowser is ready to race to the finish line." This sounds like something you'd read in a game manual trying to engage the player into playing. But Wikipedia isn't a game manual. Also in this context, Bowser is only a playable character. Whether he is "ready to race" or not is up to the person playing. Don't treat characters as if they have minds of their own, it is generally inappropriate.

Second is that you appear to add screenshots for the sole purpose of adding screenshots, like you're only using them to decorate articles. These are often title screens and character select screens. The problem with these screenshots is that they don't tell the reader anything about the actual gameplay. Imagine someone, who has no knowledge of games, sees a character screen in an article and says "I don't care about these weird animal things, I came here to find out what this game is like." For example, this screenshot for Mario Party 9:

File:VSBoss-Lakitu-MP9.png

Sure, it looks cool, but what does this say about the game? How is this screenshot representative of the actual gameplay? How does this screenshot tell the reader what the game is like? It looks like Mario and company are going to fight(?) Lakitu, but what are they going to do? How does the player fit into this, and how does it fit into the rest of the game? Screenshots should be used to compliment the gameplay described in the article, like "The players play on a board in a car vehicle" and then a screenshot is shown with exactly that. Then the reader has a better understanding of the game. This is one of your better screenshots:

File:MK7 snapshot10.png

It illustrates that first-person and hanging-guide are in Mario Kart 7. Although, it focuses too close on one particular mechanic. It does not give the reader an idea of the overall game. Here's a screenshot I added for Wario's Woods:

File:Warios woods snes screen.png

I picked this screenshot specifically because I felt it helped explain gameplay the best, since it details what the game looks like at any given time. It shows the play field, the monsters in it, the bombs that fall in, and the playable character. It helps the reader imagine what the game looks like with the help of the article text. In short, screenshots are used to help explain what the gameplay is like, not for simple decorations.

You have a lot of passion for editing Mario articles, and I like to see more of that in a more controlled direction. I hope you take my constructive criticism well. Have a great day! --ThomasO1989 (talk) 15:09, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

  • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
  • The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
  • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
  • You might wish to add {{AFC status}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
  • Several of our members monitor the #wikipedia-en-help connect IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
  • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
  • The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.

Numbers[edit]

Hi, I've noticed that your edits to anything number-related are incredibly inconsistent. Recently, on Mario Kart 7 you express 16 in numeral form but one minute later on Rosalina you express 50 in word form. Is there a reason why? Also, a lot of your edits are changing numbers from numeral form to word form and back again, and sometimes it's the same exact numbers in question, like you're not sure which way is best. For example, look at these edits: 1, 2, 3: you change the occurrences of 16 from word to number, number to word, and then word to number. I highly suggest you read Wikipedia:NUMERAL for tips on when a number should be expressed in numeral or word form. See you later! --ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:59, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Times Square[edit]

I'm just wondering, do you happen to actually work or volunteer the staff that runs that event? You seem to know quite a bit, and that photo angle you took of the 2013 finale seem to indicate that you must have been on a balcony somewhere (cause no way can you get an angle like that from the ground). And, well, you also say there was a reason why that clock on the top lost its second hand?

Meanwhile, I've been really working on the article for One Times Square, and trying to get it up to GA. I seem to be on a streak to get every piece of lore relating to that square up to GA status, it seems. ViperSnake151  Talk  21:28, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Megaforce & Goseiger[edit]

This is original research and you should have never added it to the page unless you have a reliable source to prove it. Just saying the costumes are the same (which they are) is not enough for the English Wikipedia. See the talk page as to why we're waiting for the ending credits to roll on episode one. Have you not noticed the fact that I keep reverting anons who insist on adding that? Damn man.—Ryulong (琉竜) 03:02, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to G4 (TV channel). If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. Amazing Race edits[edit]

Would you stop posting things on The Amazing Race that are based on things that we will not know for a week until the episodes air? You keep inserting things that are just plain wrong. American seasons 21 and 22 do not have "super legs". It is just a two hour season finale where they take footage from two episodes and make one. The double length legs are explicitly different in that teams are told to meet Phil at the mat (not to check in for a Pit Stop) and are told to keep racing. And you keep adding information days before the episode airs. You updated the episode count up to episode 10 a day before the episode even aired. Please stop making these statements.—Ryulong (琉竜) 04:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stop updating things before they happen. You did not need to put the final pit stop count hours before the show aired. You did not need to update the episode count hours before the show aired. It should always happen after.—Ryulong (琉竜) 02:12, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference, "no longer needed" isn't a speedy deletion criterion, so please don't tag images with {{db|no longer needed}}; when you want someone to delete an image you uploaded, tagging it with {{db-g7}} will work better and be simpler, since it's the criterion for "deletion upon author's/uploader's request". September 2013[edit]

Please start using edit summaries!! They are very helpful in identifying the intention of someone else's edit even before seeing it. You may have noticed that a significant number of your edits are reverted by other editors... this is often because your edits are hasty and offer no indication of what you were attempting to do, so the simplest thing to do is just revert. In addition, your edits also tend to fly in the face of established Wikipedia policy, often WP:V and WP:RS, which mandate that anything other than established fact (eg. "the sky is blue") be referenced with a valid citation, especially info like specific dates or genres. In addition, you may want to better familiarize yourself with the Manual of Style, such as not putting links within headings (WP:LINKSTYLE). Please also take some time to peruse WP:NOT (specifically WP:NOTGUIDE and WP:IINFO) regarding some of the tedious and unencyclopedic detail you have added to various video game articles.

Note that I am not writing this to harasses or chastise; it's in an effort to help you make better contributions overall and to hopefully make an even more enjoyable editing experience for you on Wikipedia. Thank you for your attention to these matters. DKqwerty (talk) 18:38, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Trademark Policy Discussion[edit]

Hi 22dragon22burn!

I noticed that you've contributed to the trademark article on Wikipedia. I wanted to reach out to you because the Wikimedia Foundation legal team has just released a draft trademark policy for consultation with the Wikimedia community. The purpose of the new draft is to facilitate permissive use of the Wikimedia trademarks for the community while preserving protection of the marks.

I thought that you may have an interesting perspective to add to this discussion, given your interest in trademark law. I would like to personally invite you to review the new draft and contribute any comments you may have. We plan to keep the discussion open for two months and incorporate the feedback into the final trademark policy. We hope this new version of the policy will make it easier for community members to use the logos to encourage Wikipedia editing.

Best,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article KBS News 9 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to fail WP:NTV and WP:GNG. All citations on other languages appear to be primary, with no secondary independent coverage found

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
