November 7[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on November 7, 2022.

Whet[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Sharpening stone. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 01:27, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a WP:DIFFCAPS situation. The primary meaning of "whet", capitalized thusly, is a synonym for "sharpen". I suggest we retarget to Sharpening stone (target of Whetstone), with hatnotes on both that page and the current target. The hatnote at Sharpening stone could potentially also link to wikt:whet. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 23:48, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom --Lenticel (talk) 01:16, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget as suggested by the nominator. I would expect the lowercase to point to the primary topic, not a regional radio station. – Scyrme (talk) 18:14, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Monster Thickburger[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus AGAIN. There's no agreement here to change the outcome of the previous discussion, neither to delete the redirect nor to create a separate list of products; so closing this as "no consensus" once more seems to be the right call. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 00:11, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

Not mentioned in the target article, leaving readers without finding any information about these topics. FAdesdae378 (talk · contribs) 18:29, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy keep. A three-week discussion about this closed four days ago, what on earth makes you think spending any more time on this now is a good idea? Thryduulf (talk) 21:02, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep WP:BEBOLD and add a section, a blurb, something about the Monster Thickburger on the article. I would if I knew anything about it. MightyArms (talk) 21:07, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the information is never added to the article, this response doesn't address any reason why the redirect should be kept while the target article is in its current form. Steel1943 (talk) 03:37, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per me in the previous discussion. In all fairness, the previous discussion closed to "no consensus", so a new discussion so soon isn't disallowed, especially considering that it was part of a bulk nomination. Steel1943 (talk) 02:09, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, noting the previous RFD, this redirect is a {{R with history}}, but I do not think the article hiding under the history would survive a WP:AFD. Steel1943 (talk) 03:39, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • In the previous RfD, I only mentioned that Melcous removed content, but did not provide the diff. For the benefit of MightyArms, here is the content (including about thickburgers) that was removed. Jay 💬 17:58, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Maybe we could use that information to create a List of Hardee's products page, similar to comparable pages listing McDonald's and Burger King products. Then we could retarget this to the new page. MightyArms (talk) 18:28, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the article. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 16:37, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Xenia (emulator), where the consensus to turn this title into a redirect to the current target was initially established. That is not to say that said consensus cannot change here, of course, just drawing everyone's attention to the historical record. silviaASH (User:BlankpopsiclesilviaASHs4) (inquire within) 16:59, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion this should’ve been deleted, not redirected. There was no point in redirecting to the article as no mention of the emulator was added. Plus most of the votes in the discussion voted deletion instead of redirecting so the deletion closer probably should have deleted the redirect instead of redirecting and not adding a mention to the article. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. There have been no official announcements about a pro version of the PS5 plus it has been only two years since the release of the PS5. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 21:19, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep while we aren't a crystal ball, it is a reasonable search term in that there is speculation that a pro version will be released. We don't have to give much discussion about it but we should have it. --Masem (t) 21:24, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have the sourcing to say anything about it though? As far as I've seen, there's not even credible rumors about it... Sergecross73 msg me 21:48, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm familiar with the PlayStation line of products, and there has been essentially no talk of such a product even being thought of yet. Just because the previous generation had such a naming scheme for a product (PlayStation 4 Pro) doesn't mean it's going to carry on. Anything online right now is just a rumor. Readers searching for this term are most likely looking for a product that is nonexistent, has not even been announced, and is not mentioned in the target page. To me, this is a blaring obvious trifecta of problems with this redirect existing at the present time and is the very essence of why this is a WP:CRYSTAL problem. The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Editors advocating delete have a modest numerical majority, as well as stronger arguments regarding the encyclopedia's usability for readers, as opposed to editors. Arguments for keep are largely grounded in WP:CHEAP, but the asserted harmlessness of the redirect has been challenged by editors in the delete camp. signed, Rosguill talk 16:09, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I absolutely do not see a problem. In fact, having foreign language redirects is a useful thing. I make use of them all the time when I don't want to guess the foreign term on another language WP (e.g. in template space); it mostly works typing in the English term to get to where I want to go. Can't see a problem with non-English speakers doing the same on the English WP. Schwede66 00:59, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: Seems useful to some and absolutely harmless to everyone else (until or unless we actually need an article with this title). WP:FORRED doesn't speak directly to this and isn't an actual policy anyway. I appreciate it when other language wikipedias include this kind of redirect (e.g. "Template:" for "Vorlage:" on de.wiki), so can see how this might be helpful for others (although, who actually finds anything useful on the main page? ). Furius (talk) 12:33, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • User:Furius, all default namespace names always work, even when the namespace is given an alternate name on a given wiki. For example, "Project:" always works here and on Commons, although the Project namespace has been renamed "Wikipedia:" here and "Commons:" on Commons. "Category:", "Portal talk:", "Gadget:", "Template:", etc. will all work on all foreign-language wikis, including German. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 17:55, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: WP:RLOTE is a hard argument to apply here in my view as I think there is an affinity between the name of the main page on any other given wikipedia to Main Page as, in my view, different language Wikipedias inherently are related to each other. While this would not be appropriate for all pages, for a page as universal as the main page, I think an affinity to all other languages with wikipedias is fair. Also, it's a WP:CHEAP redirect that does seem to get some usage. TartarTorte 21:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Imo, if it is kept, it should instead be a soft redirect to Turkish Wikipedia mainpage. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 13:56, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per the precedent at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2015 August 6#Redirects to Main Page, as well as WP:FORRED which explains why such redirects can be considered harmful since the target page neither has affinity with the language of the redirect nor is a page in the Wikipedia of the same language as this redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:51, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, term not mentioned at the target. Definitely WP:COSTLY, looking at the number of redirects in different languages that had to be listed and deleted during the previous RfD. enwiki has more articles and more readership, and doesn't have to follow the conventions of how other language wikis redirect to their main page. Keeping this will set a wrong precedent encouraging other language redirects without mention to the main page again, which will be a maintenance problem for English language editors. Jay 💬 03:05, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I promise this isn't to be contrarian, but how would this cause a maintenance problem? TartarTorte 22:51, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The premise is that there's nothing special here about Turkish (or the main page). There are several thousand languages in the world (a few hundred of which have wikipedias) and an arbitrarily large number of articles or project pages to redirect to. If the redirect Anasayfa is appropriate, then a very, very large number of other redirects become appropriate, and trying to create or maintain them would be a nightmare. – Uanfala (talk) 23:00, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If someone created redirects like אָנהייב בלאַט, эхлэх хуудас, or ទំព័រចាប់ផ្តើម, validating them would be an effort because I would have to find out what language it is, what is the literal English translation, and whether in the context of the language, it really means main page. Whereas if the terms were mentioned at the Main Page (or any corresponding target) this would no longer be a redirect validation problem, but a task for the editors of that target. As for this discussion, we know that the Main Page is not going to have mention of the translated term in every language of the world. Jay 💬 02:54, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This is a redirect from a reader-facing namespace to a reader-facing page, so the logic in WP:RLOTE#Rationale absolutely applies. A Turkish speaker stumbling upon this redirect may assume that they can similarly use Turkish terms to search for other project pages or for articles, and that would be a problem. – Uanfala (talk) 21:49, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy keep. Withdrawing as there is no opposition to not prolong something that will be unlikely to gain consensus to retarget. (non-admin closure) TartarTorte 17:45, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This will very likely result in a keep, but if there is consensus WP:DIFFCAPS matters in this instance, then Depth sounding#terminology might be a more appropriate target. If not then, keeping makes sense. I do acknowledge there is a Mark Twain (disambiguation) at which that is listed, but this is the only "mark twain" instead of "Mark Twain" at the DAB. Please feel free to liberally WP:SNOW keep if that's where the result is headed. TartarTorte 18:53, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Urgh... I was going to suggest a refine towards Mark Twain#Pen names? It's on the same article readers are looking for, and discusses two mark twains. But then I had a little squizz at the pageviews, and... nah. No way. Roughly 2 of those readers were looking for the depth sounding phrase. J947edits 19:18, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there's really no precedent for "List of (genre) games on (platform)", and I feel an attempt of one would probably be deleted as redundant to the main ones (in this case, List of Wii games) so I don't think that's a viable option. Sergecross73 msg me 19:22, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is unlikely that someone will search a list of both characters and races. The article also doesn’t mention a list of races nor does reliable sources. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 17:16, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename to List of Characters in Mario Kart Wii + Remove Redirect as this list could have usage. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 17:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's not how that works, considering the scope of the subject defined by the current title of the redirect is not the same scope of the subject defined by the new proposed title. If you want the "new" title to exist, feel free to create it (though the "Characters and vehicles" section doesn't contain a complete list of characters, so even that may be considered misleading.) • Delete - WP:GAMECRUFT guidance makes it unlikely that any such list would stay in an article. Sergecross73 msg me 18:38, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:VGSCOPE. A list of characters and/or races would just be better left for the Mario wikis. Regards, SONIC678 17:26, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Though the target article has a "characters" section, it is unclear what "races" is meant to refer; thus, the redirect's title could be seen as misleading. Steel1943 (talk) 19:25, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn’t mention anything related to a “ Double Dash technique”. The only “technique” the article lists is the Power Drift Technique. Google only shows random techniques that people have made. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 16:52, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - Lack of mention in the article aside, the actual "technique" is minor, has no notable coverage, and no one would search for this. The redirect itself has only 121 page views since 2015. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 18:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was move the disambiguation page over the redirect. (non-admin closure)Uanfala (talk) 18:49, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This had directed to List of national roads in Latvia#P92 which is the only thing called primarily just P92. I think that redirect should be restored as the WP:Primary topic MB 14:14, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
