Why compound the error by using the US military designation.

The aircraft WAS a Douglas C-47A Skytrain
Dakota was not used with the US military designation

So the text can read

Douglas C-47A Skytrain (Dakota) {{#tag:ref|Although officially Dakota relates to aircraft flown by British commonwealth forces it was also the common name for any of the Douglas C-47/DC-3 family in use in the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth.
