Social Media[edit]

I love that there is a social media aspect to this! Has anyone thought of adding an instagram for Women in Red? -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 17:50, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Willthacheerleader18. That's a good question. And yes(!), we just created an instagram account. I have to admit, though, that I'm not sure how to "do" instagram, so would be appreciative of your thoughts, comments, participation... I'm adding @Megalibrarygirl, SusunW, and Victuallers: to this thread as they are also admins of the wikiwomeninred insta account. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:52, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Willthacheerleader18: I've added a few posts. I need to keep it going, though! I'd love to do something 'live' but I'm not sure what to video? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:55, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is is amazing work BB392017 (talk) 04:05, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Megalibrarygirl, SusunW, Victuallers, Rosiestep, and Willthacheerleader18: I hope it's OK to offer, but I wondered if I could volunteer to help out with the WIR instagram account? I noticed when I was tagging my own posts that people had been too busy to post lately, and I'd be really happy to help out. I'm pretty familiar with it as a user and for content generation, and to be honest, I'd love to help promote the project further. No worries if its not a priority, but I thought I'd put the offer out there! (Lajmmoore (talk) 07:47, 2 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]
Lajmmoore We always welcome more eyes on the project and getting the word out about what we do, so if you can help with that, please jump in. If it's not as simple as that, one of the others will need to help you, as I know nada about social media or the technical aspects. SusunW (talk) 13:28, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Lajmmorre I would love for someone who is enthusiastic about Instagram to help out. Insta has changed a lot and I find it overwhelming at times! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 20:14, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Megalibrarygirl I would also love to help out with Instagram if I can! I think we could even do a "One Women a Day" post, and also go live to create interactive and informative experiences for users. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 21:45, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Willthacheerleader18 That's awesome! Let me find out more for you. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:32, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Willthacheerleader18 Hi! I think I have a good strategy idea for you and hope you'll be interested. Email me for more details! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:24, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

April articles disappeared[edit]

Hi, please help fix, User:Victuallers or anyone else. It seems that from this version all the Articles which were added in April disappeared. Golan's mom (talk) 11:40, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Golan's mom, I've mentioned it here, too: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red#Missing articles from April's #1day1woman page. Hope someone can sort this out. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:59, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
אמא של גולן I don't see any missing articles. You can see them here and there's actually been 3 added to the list since I looked in history. I think it's OK, unless I'm missing something. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:36, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Megalibrarygirl, It's weird, because I see it now in the article, but if you look at the version I linked, I still can't see it, and I don't see what was the change in the wiki code that made it disappear or reappear ... Golan's mom (talk) 08:42, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That is weird, אמא של גולן! Maybe posting about the error on the Teahouse will find someone who understands coding errors. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 22:31, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Hello, I started getting active in April. I have created a few articles in April and May and hope to continue in coming months. I intend to maintain 1:1 gender ratio in the number of articles I create just as a matter of personal taste. I wanted to add some articles I created to the lists here. But, I saw the /Meetup/108. So, is this a place for adding articles created in specific events only? Or are my articles ok to add? Don't feel a need to accommodate me. Just want to know the facts. Thanks! Usedtobecool TALK 11:56, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Usedtobecool: Hi, I'm sorry no one has responded to you. I'm not always up to date on reading the Women in Red talk pages, but I just saw this one. So, you started out asking about the 2019 project page.
  • At the top, there are links for the "Continuing: #1day1woman Focus on Suffrage". If you use these, they have their own tags. You have to click on them to get more information. These run throughout the year 2019.
  • Then there are the June events: Pride Royals Space Mediterranean. These also have their own tags for the talk page.
  • Next are the Redlists. These are lists of women that can be worked on at any time. Each women is already in the list. You use the tag in the redlist and the women's name goes from red to blue.
  • And then there is the page you linked, the page for 2019, which links everything I just talked about. This is where you can list women articles you created that don't fit into the previous categories. You just list them in the month they were created. There's also a place to list them if they ran in a DYK. There's a specific tag for 2019 too. {{WIR-108}}
  • And there's a code for any generic women created that don't fit into any of the previous: {{WIR 2019}}
Please ask questions if this is not explanatory enough. Other WIR, please correct if needed. Thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 16:51, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dawnleelynn: Hey, thanks for the response. So, I did add two articles each at the top marked by Nepal here and here. Hope that's OK.
I also tried to blue one entry in the list by creating this page but then saw the wikidata code and nominated it for CSD. I think I blued it once before with this but it must have come back because of that code. Is there a way to associate that code with this page instead? Or, IDK, delete that code and then link Astalaxmi Shakya to wikidata anew, however that's done? I don't know if it's right but I deleted that whole entry from the redlink page for now. Thanks again! Usedtobecool TALK 11:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Usedtobecool: You added the women's articles to the correct months - the ones in which they were created. So that is good. You added the correct projects to them if not already there: Biography and Women. But we also need the Women in Red template added - so I added that to the four women. It's the {{WIR-108}}. It's very important. Not to worry, now you know and you'll add it in the future. I saw that you did add the project specific WIR template to Astalaxmi Shakya, so yay! The name must match exactly with the name in the redlist. I added her to the redlist you mentioned so you could see what I mean. She's in there now, and she's blue. We definitely don't want to match up with a redirect (Astha Laxmi Sakya). So take a look now and see if it makes sense now. And do fix the data I added if needed. Also, there doesn't seem to be any order to the entries, so I just added her to the bottom. All in all, I think you did great. Oh, and one more thing, I noticed that Dev Kumari Thapa was not reviewed. I am a new page patroller, so I reviewed her. Happy editing and do contact me any time you need more help. We love having more editors for WIR. dawnleelynn(talk) 16:41, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Usedtobecool: I just noticed the "template" on Astalaxmi Shakya. The template was actually coded as a category. I thought changing it to a template would work, but no. I checked the redlist, and it doesn't seem to list a redlist specific template on that page. I will figure it out though, no worries. I will post here when I do. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:24, 10 June 2019 (UTC) p.s. The redlist is automatically generated so I am not sure if it will remove her the next time it updates or not. Keep an eye. It also explains the order being nonsensical. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:31, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You got it! Usedtobecool TALK 17:36, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry to report that there is some text on the redlist that says edits within the list will be removed the next time the list is updated (probably a bot). You'll have to wait for her to be added to the list by the automatic system or add her to the monthly lists like you did the other women. You could add her to a monthly list, and then remove her if she ever gets added to the Nepal list. I am afraid this gets above my head. I would ping Megalibrarygirl as she is the keeper all of the lists. She is a very friendly and helpful editor and also an admin, so could potentially get the subject added to the list. She has helped me a few times. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:42, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Megalibrarygirl: I have been assisting an editor who is creating women articles from Nepal. There is a redlist at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by nationality/Nepal that is autogenerated. Is there a way to add articles (you could?) to that list or should she just wait and eventually they could be added? Should she just add them to the monthly lists instead? One she had in question is Astalaxmi Shakya. Thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 18:54, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Dawnleelynn and Usedtobecool: We can create a crowd-sourced list for Nepal, like the one we have for Nigeria. That way anyone can add to the list. In addition, anyone can add to the list Missing articles by nationality. If you have any sources to go with the redlink, add them, too. I can also look at Astalaxmi Shakya and help out there. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:30, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Megalibrarygirl:Hi, it's me again. It's been several days. I thought it was clear that Usertobecool said yes to your idea of creating a crowd-sourced list. Also, she said that nothing needed done for that one article on Astalaxmi Shakya. I know you are really busy, so just let me know if you need more time. After all, as she said creating articles is more important than lists for our own needs. :) dawnleelynn(talk) 23:44, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Megalibrarygirl: for your quick response. @Usedtobecool:, I think that sounds great, how about you? Megalibrarygirl created a redlist page for rodeo for me and let me add the inductees myself. It was so helpful. And now anyone could add to that page. Thanks Megalibrarygirl! dawnleelynn(talk) 19:58, 10 June 2019 (UTC) p.s. I'll be there if you need help too. dawnleelynn(talk) 19:59, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Megalibrarygirl and Dawnleelynn:, sounds good to me. A crowd-sourced list would be much easier to work with, I think. At first, when I asked dawnleelynn about the entries, I had expected wikidata code to be a unique identifier to each real world entity which then helps to group all content on that entity at wikimedia in one place, no matter which project the contents are created in. However, I was just looking for Basundhara Bhusal's pictures and realised wikidata is nothing of the sort. Two people had uploaded her pictures with slightly different spellings and now they were different wikidata items altogether. Knowing that that is the case, I am much more comfortable going about our own business letting the bot list whatever misspellings it finds at wikidata into that list, if we have another list that we can control, to work with. Usedtobecool TALK 20:22, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I actually have nothing to do with the Astalaxmi Shakya page. It was already there while a misspelling was listed in red at the red page. So, I wanted to merge those two, reconcile somehow so that the red list can be made to acknowledge that she was already blue. But, yeah, it's perhaps too technical, which would require the understanding of wikidata system as well as the bots'. Usedtobecool TALK 20:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Usedtobecool:Hi, did you get your redlist? I didn't see anything mentioned here, but you two might have continued the discussion on another talkpage. Also, I was wrong about there being a specific tag for redlists. We just used the same on as the yearly project tag that you used to add your articles to the monthly lists on this project page. dawnleelynn(talk) 19:13, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dawnleelynn:, No, I have not. We have not continued the discussion somewhere else. As this is an entirely voluntary project, I expected there to be delays. So, I haven't thought about it for a while. Just focusing on my work. Haven't had much time on Wikipedia either. Afterall, creating and editing articles is the important part. Lists are entirely for our own sakes. Usedtobecool TALK 14:47, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dawnleelynn and Usedtobecool: yeah, this is a crazy week and a half so far. I do like the crowd-sourced lists a lot. In addition to having a human look into the names, we can also post references for people to use. I'm sorry that I didn't create a list for Nepal. I will probably have to put it together tomorrow. I might get it tonight, but I'm pretty tired today. :( Megalibrarygirl (talk) 01:59, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Changed my mind, @Dawnleelynn and Usedtobecool:. It's not hard to set up these pages so here is the Crowd sourced list for Nepal. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 02:06, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Megalibrarygirl: I totally understand about your having a crazy week. No worries! Thanks a bunch for doing the list. I hope things calm down a touch for you. Again, I was hoping not to rush you. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:00, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @Megalibrarygirl and Dawnleelynn:. I will start populating the list from the bot-generated list and other sources when I can. Usedtobecool TALK 07:10, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dawnleelynn and Usedtobecool: it's no problem. I was just soooo tired yesterday and you're right: things were crazy. Not only on Wiki, but in real life. :P I'm so glad you can start using the page! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:10, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

365 days[edit]

A question: Are any editors coming up on a complete year (365 days) of #1w1d? Would be quite amazing if so! (And would make for a nice Signpost interview) czar 05:42, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
