The main matter is, per WP:NFCC#8, whether deleting this sample would affect the understanding of the song "What I Am" rather than whether the sample itself improves. This is of a 1999 cover recording. If anything, either a sample of the original 1988 version would do, or no sample is needed for the song article, especially if choosing a segment is hard. The sample was de-PRODded per assumption that my rationale and citing WP:NFCC#8 weren't enough. It's not about samples in general. Rather it's about this sample specifically. When I heard the sample, I can identify only one portion/segment of Diana (Paul Anka song). However, I have to hear the whole recording to deeply understand the article's description about the song. The sample is either insufficient or unnecessary to understand the whole song, and I doubt that deleting the song would affect such understanding. If the article itself is sufficient critical commentary, even as a stub, then.... great. However, after a few replays of the sample, I heard it as no different from other samples of the original Paul Anka recording in other websites, like Amazon, regardless of which segments were used as samples.
