WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in Surf art. There's no sourced commentary any where in the article related to this particular work; so, the contextual significance for it's non-free use is questionable per WP:NFC#CS. The artist who is supposed to have painted according to the file's description is Olivier Longuet, but there doesn't seem to be any English Wikipedia article written about him and he isn't even one of the eleven "notable surf artists" mentioned by name in the last sentence of the article's lead. It's nice painting for sure, and it is of a person surfing; however, none of those things really justify it's non-free use in the article. There is a freely licensed example of surf art by Ithaka Darin Pappas, who is at least mentioned by name in the article. The Pappas example is not a painting, but it is an example of "Surf art" and that is what the article is supposed to be about. If a non-free painting example is really necessary per WP:NFCC#8, then perhaps there is one by another of the artists mentioned by name in the article that could be used and could be better contextually connected to the article content; even better would be to try a freely-licensed or PD example of such a representative work. Regardless, the way this file is currently being used doesn't meet the justification for non-free use required by WP:NFCC and thus it should be deleted if that cannot be addressed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:25, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Convert both to {{PD-textlogo}} and tag with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}. There are a couple of differences in the coloring scheme between the png and svg versions; they're not really differences in copyrightable elements, but they're still differences nevertheless. Another and more relevant issue perhaps has to do with whether either version really needs to be licensed as non-free. Basically, regardless of the version, the logo is the four letter "DCCC" and then some simple arcs or half-arcs. The letters aren't copyrightable and the arcs are quite simple so that they too would not really be eligible for copyright per c:COM:TOO United States. Whether a svg logo is in and of itself eligible for its own copyright simply because it's svg is debatable per WP:NFC#Multiple restrictions and c:COM:SVG#Copyright, but the basic logo still is (in my opinion) too simple to be eligible for copyight protection; so, simply trying to argue that the svg version needs to be non-free because it's svg would mean the file fails WP:FREER and would need to be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:54, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

      • @DemonDays64: WP:PINGs won't work if you don't sign you post, and they only work when you ping and sign in the same edit. As for your question about the white text, I'm not sure, I would normally suggest WP:GL/I, but you've already been there and that. Since you uploaded the svg, perhaps there's an alternative verion that can be found which doesn't use white lettering. Technically the file is PD; so, it can be modified by anyone. However, the idea is to use the actual logo the organization uses and not one that someone has created that looks like the actual logo. If you look at the DCCC's websites, you see slightly different variations on the logo; sometimes there's a "DCCC" and sometimes there isn't. On the main website, the logo appears quite a lot on a blue background; so, maybe it would be OK to add a plain blue background. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:53, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete for the WP:NFCC#3a reasoning given by Whpq. Just going to note that the file is now orphaned which means t will likely be deleted per WP:F5 before this FFD runs a full seven days. The file was actually removed from Tanglewood (2018 video game) with this edit by the same editor who uploaded the file and originally added it to the articles. That could be interpreted as an acknowledgement of the Whpq's reasoning as well and might even be considered a request for speedy deletion per WP:G7. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:49, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
