This is a lower resolution version of the Commons file of the same name, and it's questionable that such a short featureless title would be subject to copyright Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:02, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

commons:File:Trident Microsystems logo.svg is the same logo, but freely licensed. If that is correct the local copy should be deleted. If no, the Commons file should Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:09, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Keep removed from the "ball" page. If no non-free use rationale for a given use seems forthcoming, then that use is not OK. The tree in the logo is different from the one in the flag and that would need its own discussion to assess the copyright status Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:21, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because Marchjuly keeps removing a non-free use rationale logo from Lebanon men's national ball hockey team per WP:NFCC#c10! AaronWikia (talk) 15:44, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - How about the association logo from Facebook? Would that work? George Ho (talk) 16:42, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I removed the logo the first time with this edit because non-free content cannot be used in drafts. This added the page to my watchlist, so it showed up again when the draft was moved by AaronWikia to the article namespace. I checked the image again and found it was missing a non-free use rationale, so I removed it again, but this time because of WP:NFCC#10c, with item 17 of WP:NFC#UUI also being a concern. AaronWikia readded the file with the edit sum Removing non-free image is illegal!, which is not correct at all. AaronWikia then started a discussion at User talk:Marchjuly#Edit war: Lebanon men's national ball hockey team making a similar claim and referring to edit warring, even though technically they are the one who was edit warring. I removed the image again here per WP:NFCCE and responded on my talk. The edit sum for my third removal was a bit garbled since the wikilink was formtted incorrectly, but my user talk post explained that a seperate specifc non-free use rationale is needed per WP:NFCC#10c. AaronWikia tried to add such a rationale here by combining multiple use into a single rationale, and I explained that was not allowed on my user talk and AaronWikia reverted the change to the rationale and then started this discussion.
I'm not sure whether the file's use can be justified in both these articles per item 17 of NFC#UUI, but I am sure that a seperate specific non-free use rationale is needed for each use. So, if AaronWiki believes the file's use in Lebanon men's national ball hockey team, then they should add the rationale required by NFCC#10c so that it can be evaluated. In addition, I've re-added the file to Lebanon men's national ice hockey team because it does have the required separate and specific non-free use rationale for that article and was removed by AaronWikia in error. Removing the file made it an orphan per WP:F5 which means it might be speedily deleted after five days if it's still an orphan at that time.
As for George Ho's comment about the Facebook logo. That could work, but technically it's the logo for the Lebanese Hockey Association, not the team itself. In previous FFD discussions about this type of logo use, the consensus has generally been that such logo use is OK for the national federation article, but not OK for individual team articles. There was some discussion trying to develop a new consensus to modify this interpretation a bit to allow the use in some team articles, but nothing was resolved. In this particular case, there is no current stand-alone national association article (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lebanese Hockey Association for reference), so it may be possible to use this file in a team article. It also may be possible to convert the file being discussed here to public domain if the cedar tree imagery is deemed non-copyrightable. For example, both File:Flag of Lebanon.svg and File:Coat of arms of Lebanon.svg are public domain images and the cedar tree in both looks the same as the one in the hockey team logo. I don't think the Facebook logo can be converted to public domain for this reason because the image is much more complex and more than just the tree and some wording. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:35, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
