Disputed fair use (NFCC#8, no contextual significance). Speedy deletion template removed by uploader. At the very least this needs to be massively downsized.  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:20, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for removing the tag was that a new caption was rewritten that provided additional background information. As per suggestion above, the file has been replaced by a considerably smaller version. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 11:38, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
PD A photograph like this is probably in the public domain. Secondarywaltz (talk) 14:02, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Precautionary principle (at Commons or here) requires proof of such an assertion. Do you have it? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:04, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I repeat "probably". No assertion. Geez! Secondarywaltz (talk) 02:03, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • A big bold "PD" sure looks like an assertion to me. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:28, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Now, Voyager is renowned for the cigarette scene, but as as no images of that exist, this is the closest thing. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 16:47, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • That may be so, but that doesn't mean the image meets the NFCC. If this is a screenshot, it might be worthwhile to track down if the film's copyright was renewed 27/28 years after copyright was registered. If the studio did not renew copyright, this would be PD (as Waltz says above). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:28, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK, this was a scene that was not derived from a screenshot as I did not have the film in hand. Instead, if memory serves me, it came from an illustrated account of the significance of Now, Voyager that was at the University of Southern Maine website. I have since found a screenshot of the "two cigarettes" scene that may serve as a replacement but is very poor in terms of resolution, and likely to be replaced if a better image can be found. See the article changes that have been added today. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 11:27, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I do not believe that NFCC#8, no contextual significance, applies now, as there is direct textual reference to the two-cigarette scene and its importance in not only the film but also in film lore. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 11:31, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Which would be a point for a screenshot of the scene, not something from just before it. Do you have a link? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:32, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the original image has now been replaced by a screenshot of the pivotal scene in the film. The context of the "two cigarettes" is directly stated in the "production" section of the article on Now, Voyager. See: File:Now-voyager.jpg FWiW Bzuk (talk) 12:53, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's still too big (should be, at most, maybe 300 px wide). Also, the information template is a mess. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:22, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The information template is still a mess, as Crisco notes, but the image is now of low resolution, is non-replaceable, and is discussed in critical, sourced commentary in the text. – Quadell (talk) 19:02, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Artist died in 1999 - So this can't be freely licensed? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:51, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a low-quality reprint from a Soviet state journal without copyright notices. It was painted in Soviet times (1975) and not for commercial reasons. Lkahd (talk) 10:02, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Convert to fairuse as an example of the artist's work. -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 11:23, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Isnt this "Not protected by US copyright law"? Published in Armenia before they signed the Berne Convention and the World Trade Organization? See [1], if so keep and restore original file description. Christian75 (talk) 20:20, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • No. The copyright hadn't expired in Armenia by 19 October 2000 as the author hadn't been dead for at least 50 years on that date. See [2]. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:35, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, since the subject is not discussed in the body of the article. (However, if sourced critical commentary is added regarding this painting, then the image can be kept.) – Quadell (talk) 19:04, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The underlying poster and its graphics are copyrighted in Hong Kong and in the US. De minimis doesn't apply in this case, given the focus of the photograph being on the poster. Hchc2009 (talk) 18:28, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
