Welcome![edit]

I would like to cancel my account but there is no information anywhere on how to do this. I believe users have a legal right to cancel accounts to control our digital life, as my username is my real name and I was not aware this would be visible and it's a privacy issue. I would appreciate your canceling my account to ensure my digital privacy and follow GDPR compliance.

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] GermanJoe (talk) 14:41, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks a lot @GermanJoe: It is my first time here and I didn't know about this.

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Philosophy of happiness. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. GermanJoe (talk) 14:58, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you @GermanJoe: - I didn't know about this.
  • Please read also WP:COI about editing with a conflict of interest and WP:PAID regarding paid editing. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 15:33, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The advice given above should be considered 1) mandatory reading, and 2) as applicable to all Wikimedia's wikis. Such conflict of interest / paid-editing is problematic. Representing an educational facility, it would be hoped that you would be aware of that, and respectful of that. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:42, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Billinghurst @Billinghurst: Dully noted. I am new here and I was not aware of these rules.
  • I am new on Wikipedia and was not aware of these comments above, I wanted to cancel the links but I can't figure out how to revert this. Anyway, I apologise for the inconvenience. I would like to cancel my account but there is no information anywhere on how to do this. I believe users have a legal right to cancel accounts to control our digital life, as my username is my real name and I was not aware this would be visible and it's a privacy issue. Please let me know how to solve this privacy issue. I would appreciate someone providing me some guidance on how to cancel my account to follow GDPR compliance. @Billinghurst:
Accounts cannot be deleted for legal reasons, as all edits must be attributable to someone. You could attempt to request a courtesy vanishing, but it may be refused and I'm not sure you have a sufficient edit history to do so. You could also just change your username at WP:CHUS or Special:GlobalRenameRequest and then abandon your account, though a record of the username change would remain.
Wikipedia is physically located in the United States and is not bound by EU regulations on privacy. 331dot (talk) 14:48, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your prompt reply. I was not aware of Wikipedia not following EU regulations on privacy when I activated my account, this is disappointing as I wouldn't have done it if I knew I wouldn't have a right to cancel. Especially because my username is my real name and it's a serious privacy issue for me.

Please cancel my account, a username change doesn't grant my digital privacy.

As I indicated, accounts are not able to be "cancelled". The best you can try for is a courtesy vanish, please go to WP:VANISH for more information. 331dot (talk) 16:28, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
