Conflicting dates[edit]

The article states that the "New Wing" was built in 2003. However, I found a News Leader article stating that Central began using the building in 2002. I have yet to find anything else regarding the new building construction.--Cawhee (talk) 21:39, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm assessing this article following a request at WP:WPSCH/A#R, and have changed the ratings for WikiProject Schools to C / Mid. Firstly, I'm reducing importance to mid as while the school has some important features such as a high ranking, some notable alumni, and a good age for a US school, only a very small minority of schools should have an importance higher than mid and this school doesn't fall into this category with the information currently given.

On article quality, the article has enough material of good quality for C-class, with general expansion needed for B-class. Some specific suggestions are:

  • Overall: A lot of sections need expanding as the tags suggest, and there are some key potential sections currently missing such as history, and I would suggest re-organizing the article to more closley comply with the standard layout for school articles, although naturally some deviation is appropriate on a school-by-school basis - see WP:WPSCH/AG#S.
  • Lead: The lead should summarize and introduce the article - see WP:LEAD, which means at least in theory references shouldn't be needed there as everything given there should be cited in the article.
  • Infobox: Good, as since the mascot seems to function as the school's logo, having him in the infobox is appropriate.
  • Campus: Needs expansion and proper referencing. Avoid puffery such as "massive construction project" - stick to the facts, show how it was a massive construction project.
  • Notable programs: This section should probably be expanded into a more general academics or curriculum section, with the IB put in a sub-section if appropriate. At the moment this section does read as rather promotional and needs to be toned down and condensed.
  • Paranormal: The reliability of the sources cited here look a bit dodgy to me. This is interesting material and would make a great addition to the history section, but unless the issue has been subject to significant third-party coverage, then it doesn't merit more than a brief mention.
  • Central Intelligence: Ought to expanded into a more general extra-curricular activities section. What's NSPA? Abbreviations have to be specified - see MOS:ABBR.
  • Notable alumni: Needs an introductory sentence; every entry must have a citation with a reliable source plus a brief mention on what that person is notable for e.g. "game show host". Surely a school this old would have more than two notable alumni?
  • References: The article still has many gaps in referencing and existing referencing needs to be cleaned-up - try to use citation templates rather than bare URLs.
  • External links: There certainly shouldn't be any more than there are now - usually one link to the official website will do.
  • Images: While it is good to see pictures, there are a few issues I must raise:

Paranormal[edit]

The 'Paranormal' section is has two sources, neither of them appear to be reliable. ForgottenUSA.com uses www.shadowlands.net as it's source. Shadowlands.net was a website run by two individuals that holds user submitted content. The other source is missourighosts.net, a website that list haunted places and claims to do field investigations. Their item on Springfield Central High School consists of "Stories from visitors to this site." Again - user submitted content. Should the HP Staircase be added?[edit]

Hello! I am a student who goes to CHS, and a fairly notable addition I feel should be made to this article is the Harry Potter Staircase. As I am new to Wikipedia, I'm not sure if I should add this in myself, or at all. Anyway, the HP Staircase is a, well, staircase. It is above the last staircase on the third floor to the left of the entrance inside the oldest wing? though I am not entirely sure. It leads from a sealed off room (concrete/bricks cover the entrance) up a few stairs before reaching a wall, then turning clockwise, up a few more steps, and to a shut door. The staircase is unreachable without a ladder. As far as I know, behind the door (might) be sealed off. When I shadowed as a 5th grader, one of the first things my partner suggested during lunch was the staircase, and once I started school, my friends and I have gone to see it multiple times. A very interesting place is this, especially the alleged paranormal activities. Maybe this has something to do with the fabled room 301 or 311, or the 4th floor attic? lol... If you can find a source for it, and I'm pretty sure there is going to be a book or six written on this place, go ahead and add it.
