"formation" as the name[edit]
USGS doesn't appear to support use of "formation." USGS does, however, appear to support Bright Angel Shale of Tonto Group (AZ*), Bright Angel Shale (CA*,NV*,UT*), and Bright Angel Schist (CA*) where asterisk (*) indicates usage by the U.S. Geological Survey. Other usages by state geological surveys. This article suggests the "formation" is in Arizona, which is the Bright Angel Shale of Tonto Group. That is precisely what Bright Angel Shale is.
