Unhelpful for non-tech[edit]

I am considering software that installs a Virtual Adapter and, having no idea what such a thing was, came to Wiki. The articles I found here are this one and Vitual Interface Device. Neither were helpful as both immediately use jargon in their introductions (e.g "converts transmitted data from one presentation form to another"). Compare/contrast the introduction I found helpful on About.com on Adapters ("A network adapter interfaces a computer to a network. The term "adapter" was popularized originally by Ethernet add-in cards for PCs.") Could the relevant articles on wiki be joined-up and made more helpful in some way? Merge Request[edit]

Should this article be merged with the broader article Adapter? It seems unnecessary to separate the topics.

By unnecessary, i meant that since this topic is just a branch of the other topic, it might be reasonable to either merge this one into the other one or to link from the other article to this one, especially since the section on the adapter article is a stub.

To clarify and ammend, in the past, the Adapter article was split into several articles, this being one of them. However, since the main Adapter article mentions computer adapters, but as a stub of a section on computer adapters, and containing differing content, not justifying a simple link from that article to this one without several changes to the content on that article, it is my belief that it would just work better to have one article talking about electronics and computing, especially also since electronics and computing are commonly grouped as a field of study/magicstuffs (I know they aren't, I took electronics in year 9/10). I think it would just make almost everyone's lives easier if this page merged into the other one. Not trying to be a "Carthago delenda est" person, sorry, but I do truly think it would be better to merge them.

Opppose - The ac-power-plug-to-dc-supply thing needs a better title - an "adapter" is many things beside a wall wart. --Wtshymanski (talk) 01:26, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Wtshymanski. Firstly, I do not see how this is an argument against merging the articles, since it has not addressed the fact that there is currently a [[stub section on the article already, and it doesn't seem to refute any points I have put forth, nor does it, as far as I can tell, oppose, in any other way, the idea of merging the articles using related reasoning. Secondly, a problem with a name and/or stub content of a relevant section of an article should be brought up on the talk page of the article, I'd assume. My proposition is either to merge the two articles, having the content of this article placed in the section on the Adapter article, or to merge the [[aforementioned confusingly placed section to this article. ––– [ Vedvod | My (bad) contributions to this site | Talk ] 07:53, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There does not seem to be any substantial opposition to my proposal, and, though there is no support for it either, I will probably either add a link from the computer section of Adapter, or I will move the information from here to under the section on that page. The information on that page under that section also does not seem to be fully covered by this article. Yeah, I'll get started on that soon, maybe, unless someone is in opposition to this? I should also be fixing up National_Parks_and_Wildlife_Conservation_Act_1975...Vedvod My (bad) contribs Talk 00:58, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose the merge (as per Wtshymanski). The topics are distinct, and work covering separately. I've linked the relevant section with a main template which makes the distinction clearer (and provides the necessary link for WP:SUMMARY format). Klbrain (talk) 18:45, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Closing, given the opposition, no support and stale discussion. Klbrain (talk) 15:28, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
