Rafaella Carvalho, also known as Ella Droste and Ella Carvalho (born September 27, 1990.[1]), is a Brazilian model[2], beauty pageant titleholder[3], actress[4], dancer[5], writer[6] and influencer[7].
Carvalho was propelled to fame in 2014[8], after she participated in the South Korean talk show Three Turns[9], where she discussed being previously engaged to a celebrity[10] and how it affected her.[11] She is also known for acting in Korean Dramas[12].
The fashion model has walked for several designer brands, including Gucci, Dior, Daniel Vior and Prada[12]. She is also known for writing articles focused on social issues, with topics ranging from vaccine inequality during the COVID-19 pandemic [13] , to domestic violence [14] .
Aside from being a published author[15], Carvalho has also competed in international beauty pageants, representing her native home, Brazil[16].
Biography[edit]
Carvalho was born and raised in Aracaju, Sergipe[1]. She is the daughter of professor and politician[17] Valeria Maria Lima Campos[18]. Rafaella "Ella" Carvalho was brought up in the Catholic faith, and has indicated that, as a child, she wanted to become a nun[19].
Her modeling career began in 2005, with Mega Model agency, in Brazil[1]. Since then, she has walked and shot editorials for several brands internationally[12].
Carvalho studied medicine[20] for 3 years, before being awarded a scholarship from the Korean government in 2010[1]. Soon after, she dropped out and moved to South Korea[21] to pursue a business degree. In 2014, she received an award from the Korean government for outstanding academic performance[22].
In the same year, Carvalho entered the Miss First beauty pageant as Miss Brazil, being placed as first runner-up.[23]
By the end of 2014, she had become a recurrent guest[24] in the popular Korean talk show Three Turns[25], rising to fame after rumors that she was engaged to a popular actor arose[26]. After a three year relationship[27], the couple split up, causing a spike in interest in the events surrounding the celebrity breakup[28] and in the model's life after that[29].
In 2016, Carvalho entered the Miss Supertalent of the World, where she placed in the Top 11.[30] Only a year later, she represented Brazil at the Miss Freedom of The World pageant, but dropped out of the competition soon after due to conflicting schedules[16]
She is known for being featured in commercials for several brands, such as Samsung[12], LG, Domino Pizza, Coca Cola[12], Maska Eye Wear and Dunhill, as well as for her modeling work in fashion shows, such as Seoul Fashion Week, Seoul Africa Fashion Show[31] and Salon du Chocolat[32]
Carvalho currently works in the IT industry and speaks English, Korean and Spanish fluently, in addition to her native language Portuguese. [33] She also has a basic knowledge of Russian and Italian.
