Piotrus' to do list #2

So I am back, if in a limited fashion. Thanks to all who helped with that, and thanks to all who kept this project alive in the meantime. Over the next days I will be suggesting a bunch of edits here, for your consideration. Please strike them out if you carry them; or let me know if you think they are unnecessary/unhelpful. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 06:13, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Note: Category:Legnica doesn't exist, but probably should be created; consider doing so and populating the category
Created the category. I'll try to figure out what belongs in it, but I would appreciate suggestions.
  12. Ignacy Ścibor Marchocki - iwiki pl:Ignacy Ścibor Marchocki, , , ,Inappropriate tone. talk: Poland and bio (living=no), start, low.
This article is could be rewritten to DYK with a little effort (tone, needs few more refs for a good hook).
Unfortunately, a large portion of the article was copied and pasted from another website.

General note: I am no longer looking at article about sportsmen, I consider the flood of footballer and like articles to be close to spam.

Also, a naming discussion may be appropriate to start at Talk:Casimir Zagourski (his Polish name is much more popular than the latinized one: [2] vs [3]. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:36, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

I discussed it briefly with the article's creator. See this and this (and this too). — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 02:49, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
I am not sure what the confusion is. Our Casimir Zagourski is pl:Kazimierz Zagórski. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:58, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

  4. Topolski Century - UK-museum-stub

Sport articles: 2009 Polska Energia Open, Warsaw GAA, Grzegorz Panfil

Note: I left Michal Wisniowski under that name, because he uses the Latinized spelling on his website. Also, I tagged the article for refimprove rather than notability because it has two independent references. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 18:14, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Given that the subject himself uses the latinised spelling, shouldn't the article also use it? Varsovian (talk) 14:33, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Not sure if this is his official name, art name, or a westernized simplification, and I am not sure what are our policies on using artistic names in article titles. But, frankly, I don't care much (and I still think he may not pass WP:N). What has he done that makes him notable, again? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:15, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Weiss Wiesław Can you help?

The article on Polish journalist and writer, Weiss Wiesław has been tagged as an unreferenced biography of a living person since May 2008 (which is the current focus month of the Unreferenced BLP Rescue Project). It would seem that the subject should meet WP:GNG but without the necessary language skills it's proving a hard slog finding supporting references. I'm posting here in the hope that someone in this Project might like to take an interest and sort this one out.--Plad2 (talk) 05:44, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

For starters I've moved it to Wieslaw Weiss since Wieslaw is the first name and Weiss the last name.radek (talk) 05:51, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Adam Adamski deletion

Re Adam Adamski - should it be deleted? Can anyone help with sourcing or confirming lack thereof?--Kotniski (talk) 12:21, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

It's borderline. He seems to be listed as having participated in some regional contests [4] and won first place. I have no idea what counts for notability in the body building world. Wikipedia:WikiProject Bodybuilding might actually be of more help here.radek (talk) 12:51, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Someone recently started an article about Amy Elizabeth Thorpe, a supposed prewar and World War II agent of Britain's MI6 and British Security Coordination who was presented to the world in William Stevenson's pseudo-history, A Man Called Intrepid (1976). Thorpe, codenamed "Cynthia," supposedly seduced vital Enigma secrets out of an unnamed aide to Polish Foreign Minister Józef Beck. The whole story has no credibility. The article's author Leidseplein provides no plausible support for his story, and instead accuses this critic of seeking Poland's historical aggrandizement. Perhaps others may want to take a look at the article and its talk page... Nihil novi (talk) 05:40, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

It's only 1200 characters, and DYK requires at least 1500. I'll ask Skäpperöd if he can expand it a little. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:48, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Expanded by Radek and nominated for DYK.
In that case please make sure to list Radeksz as a co-author (author1= | author2= ). Thanks, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 09:22, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

  6. Ujazdów Avenue - please notify the author that with a little bit more of expansion and inline citations his article(s) could be DYKed
Article is long enough, so I nominated it.
  7. Grzegorz Halama Oklasky - unreferenced, notability, Poland-stub, cabaret-stub, uncatregorized - categories: 1995 establishments, Polish cabarets
  8. Robin Hood - czwarta strzała - unreferenced, notability, Poland-stub... I am not sure what type of performance it is (play?). Uncategorized, but I am not sure what besides 1997 establishments is applicable.
For what it's worth, it appears to be a film.
  9. Jarosław Jaros - talk: Poland, BLP-living, low, stub; uncategorized: 1978 births, Polish actors
  10. Republic of Ostrów - WP:MILHIST, this should be expanded so it could be dyked...
Currently has 583 characters (blockquotes don't count for DYK), so it would require a 3x expansion. I'll contact the article's authors and ask them what they think.
I see it was expanded. Need to remove the stub template, and DYK. Suggested hook (but I see Radeksz is expanding it so he may want to suggest a different one if he is going to nom it - please notify him of my suggestion):
  11. 12. Jarosław Boberek - Category:1963 births, Polish actors, please ask the author to start adding categories to his/her creations and invite them to our WikiProject
  13. Grzegorz Miśtal - as above...
  14. Witold Wieliński - ...and this one is missing almost all information, notability??
  15. PWS-4 - Poland and aviation wikiprojects, DYK:
  16. Franciszek Maurer - ugh; start by adding iwiki to pl article; Cats: 1918 births, 2010 deaths, Polish architects, Polish artists, ref section needs formatting (no need to note the license); invite author (User talk:Gliwiczanin) to our project
If we remove the license, I think somebody may come along and say the article is COPYVIO. I've seen similar notes on other articles (Greg Tate, for example). I'm going to leave it for now.
Hmmm, ok - but please remove the Polish text :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 09:25, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

  1. Mendel Grossman - Poland-bio-stub; please notify the author that with some expansion and inline citations this could be eligible for a DYK
The article was created on July 20 and it's July 31, far past the 5-day DYK limit. I'm not sure it's worth notifying the author about DYK. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:06, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

  12. Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom - Category:1952 establishments
  13. Władysław Wawrzyniak - I think this is beyond stub; hence remove stub template and DYK it (please notify Loosmark - if he is not reading this - that DYKing is easy :D). Maybe Białystok or Bialostok in modern Ukraine? I've asked the author. SeveroTC 08:28, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
For the record, there is no Bialostok (AFAIK), and Białystok is in modern Poland. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:35, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
First link at [5] is a link to a Bialostok in Ukraine. Could be a typo in that system or just very small? My guess would have been Białystok (of course in modern Poland and equally obviously not in a Polish state in 1889) but Wikipedia isn't based on guesswork! SeveroTC 18:45, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Task 23

Main: weekly analysis of Portal:Poland/New article announcements (batch of 29th - 30th July, the both is acting weirdly, and I cannot find data from 26 to 29...

  1. Frenzy of Exultations - unreferenced; talk: Poland and visual arts; probably to late for DYK, but please inform the author (User talk:Verwolff) that with inline cites his work could be eligible for DYKing
  2. Zygmunt Miłoszewski - talk: Poland
  3. Starzynka has now started stubbing Polish museums. They need stub assessments at talk: Palace Museum in Wilanów, Museum of Independence, Museum of Literature, Warsaw (add Category:Polish literature), Muzeum Kolekcji Jana Pawła II w Warszawie (add Category:Pope John Paul II), Muzeum Historyczne m.st. Warszawy (add Cat:History of Warsaw), Muzeum Historii Polskiego Ruchu Ludowego, Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie (too much of my surprise, I realized there is no Category:Frédéric Chopin - it needs to be created, based on categories in the main article; subcategories: Category:Compositions by Frédéric Chopin), X Pawilon Cytadeli Warszawskiej, Muzeum Farmacji im. Antoniny Leśniewskiej w Warszawie , Mieszkanie Stefana Żeromskiego na Zamku Królewskim w Warszawie , Kolekcja wilanowska (rename???), Muzeum katyńskie w Warszawie (Category:Katyn Massacre), Muzeum Karykatury w Warszawie (Category:Caricature), Kamienica Łyszkiewicza w Warszawie, Muzeum Harcerstwa w Warszawie (add Category:Scouting in Poland), Muzeum Geologiczne Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego , Muzeum Gazownictwa w Warszawie . Oh, I also wonder if most of those should not be translated into English (name-wise). One could also ask her again to tag and assess her creations herself...
  4. Nikodem Poplawski - notability or prod (2nd opinion would be nice), further the cats probaby need Polish-American
Poplawski may be notable for writing a scientific paper that has generated some articles in the popular press, but it sounds like a fringe theory. I'll tag it for notability rather than PROD it. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:50, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
  5. Crown of Bolesław I the Brave - please tell the author (User talk:Gryffindor) that if inline citations are added, this would be a good DYK material

  7. Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom - also add Cat:Defunct prisons in Poland

Task 24

Main: weekly analysis of Portal:Poland/New article announcements (batch from Yana Maksimava started at 23:29, 30 July 2010 to New Navadvip Temple in Wrocław started at 08:16, 6 August 2010

  1. Senate 2001 - Poland and politics startub, low
  2. List of teams and cyclists in the 2010 Tour de Pologne - Poland and cycling, list, start
Also go to 2010 Tour de Pologne, rate as start, remove the future tag...
  3. List of Hindu temples in Poland - Poland and Hindu, list, mid/low?
  4. New Shantipur Temple in Czarnów - start, barely. Tell the author (User talk:SETI3) that with a slight expansion he could nominate this for T:TDYK
  5. New Ramana Reti Temple in Mysiadło - seems stub like
  6. New Navadvip Temple in Wrocław - also a stub
  7. Museum of the Puck Region - Poland-museum-stub, talk: Poland and museum projects, low, stub. Author ([[User talk:Ciacho5]) should be invited to our project
  8. Jewish Community of Danzig - needs a pl interwiki (Historia Żydów w Gdańsku). Update Gdańsk category to History of Gdańsk category, add Category:Jewish Polish history. Needs renaming: uncontroversial decapitalizing of Community; I am not sure whether Danzig or Gdansk is more appropriate, as the community ended with WWII (but begun during the Slavic times). Perhaps a discussion on this might be helpful. Now that the article has a section on the modern community, it seems clear to me that it should be moved to Gdańsk. Malik, what do you think?
I just read Talk:Gdansk/Vote, and I'm not sure. Since most of the Jewish community's history was between 1308 and 1945, should the article be named Danzig? Or should it be named Gdańsk because there were Jews in the city before 1308 and after 1945? I don't have any experience with the Gdańsk/Danzig issue. Should we list it at WP:RM? — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 18:48, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Frankly, I was never that deeply involved with the Gdańsk vote, but my understanding is that length of time is not the factor; rather, is the article describing something historical that is 1) Danzig- or 2) Gdańsk- only, or a 3) process that is spanning them? In 1) and 2), use the according name. In 3), use modern one, just as Gdańsk is at Gdańsk, not Danzig (ditto for History of Gdańsk, which is not at History of Danzig. I think that those two long-estabilished examples make it clear how the rule works, but if more is needed, just look at Category:Gdańsk and note all "of Gdańsk" examples (and the near lack of any "of Danzig" ones). PS. Could you fix redirects Mayor of Gdansk, Mayor of Gdańsk and Mayors of Gdańsk to point to List of mayors of Gdańsk? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:25, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
radek started a discussion on the article's Talk page. I'll chime in there. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:35, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
  9. Franciszek Indan Pykna - needs copyediting (or copyedit tag). Talk: Poland start low template, BLP living no. Categories: 1913 births, 1989 deaths, Polish mathematician, Polish philosophers. Please inform the author (User talk:ULVINNE) that when he creates articles, he should add categories, inline links, footnotes, and that if he does that and writes substantial articles like that one, he may nom them for DYKs.
  10. Open-air Museum of the Łódź Wooden Architecture - too many pictures, need to be trimmed. Talk: Poland, museum, start, low. Please tell the author (User talk:Cmw2010) that with inline cites it could be DYKable
  11. Ivan Ziatyk - please tag with BLP and Ukraine projects, start, low. Add category: Victims of Soviet repressions. Seems DYKable:
  12. Alojzy Adamczyk - needs categories and talk project templates, I'd also appreciate your thoughts on notability
Probably not notable, although receiving honorary decorations might make him notable. Most of the Google books/news hits I found under that name were for a labor leader, probably not the same person. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:28, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
  13. Night of museums and galleries - Plovdiv - needs a new name, copyedit, uncategorized
  14. Szacunek Ludzi Ulicy - uh, machine translation? Either tag it with a bunch of things or consider prodding that mess
  15. Abraham Boyarsky - bio-stub
  16. Ratusha, Ivano-Frankivsk - talk: Ukrainian wikiproject, architecture as well. Seems DYKable, but I cannot think of a hook, also needs some language copyedit, inline cites - perhaps notify the author (User talk:Aleksandr Grigoryev) of that.

  • Jorge A. Swieca - Brazilian scientist stub and Brazil/BIO talk projects, probably not connected to Poland enough to justify the Polish equivalents...
  • Łomża Ghetto - Cat:Podlaskie Voivodeship (or a good opportunity to create Łomża cat...). Invite User talk:LMK3 to our project, tell him about DYKsm, the article is DYKable:
  • Muscovy Crown - Poland WP, please tell the creator (User talk:Gryffindor) that with a little more expansion it could by DYKable
  • Livonian campaign of Stephen Báthory - since the article was moved, please add a note to the lead that Polish historiography has a different name for the conflict (old name). Ref can be moved from pl wiki, there is also plenty on GBooks. And frankly, the new name seems ORish (I get no hits on GPrint for it; can't give you a direct link since those seem to be broken for some strange reason). I'd suggest making request for a source for the new name on talk.
  • I added the alternate name to the lede. I was able to find two hits at Google books and one at Google Scholar using the search terms "Livonian campaign" and "Stephen Báthory". I found a large number of books using "Russo-Polish War", but it was hard to weed out the ones that referred to the war in question. Adding Báthory or Batory to the search helps; in total, I found about a dozen or so titles at Google Books. Neither name seems to be particularly common in English. Please let me know how you'd like me to proceed. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:41, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
    • Thanks. At this point I'd suggest asking the editor who moved the article to provide sources justifying the move on talk. My cursory search did not suggest any name for that campaign that is popular in English literature, and the only argument for the old one would be that it is a translation of the name used in the Polish historiography. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 07:35, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Assessment

I've noticed that when you assess project articles with a "B class" rating, it shows up as "C class" on the talk page [9] [10]. Other times, it appears to work fine [11] (I've tried the WPPoland rather than WikiProject Poland tag on VdM and Chrobry but it still listed them as C, at least in preview). We do have a B rating in the project [12] so I'm not sure what the problem is.radek (talk) 21:44, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

I'd suggest reposing this at WP:VPT. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:45, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

The Grand Duchy of Lithuania didn't use Lithuanian language but the Ruthenian language. When did the treaty and union obtain the names? Xx236 (talk) 08:42, 21 September 2010 (UTC) According to Talk:Union of Kėdainiai - end of the 19 century in Lithuanian historiography. Family of White Stork, a national bird in Poland - Poland

Both Stork and White Stork list several countries claimning their love to storks. It would be useful to coordinate the articles. BTW - isn't our national bird an eagle?Xx236 (talk) 10:57, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't really understand what you mean, but in any case, Poland does not have a national bird (or any other national animal). The White Eagle is a heraldic symbol, which is a different thing (i.e., not an actual avian species). — Kpalion(talk) 13:17, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
I mean the article Poland, which contains a picture signed "Family of White Stork, a national bird in Poland" and articles Stork and White Stork, which discuss the problem of (White) Stork in culture and heraldics in several countries. It would be useful to coordinate the articles and to remove false or unsourced staments.
Eagles aren't only "heraldic symbols" in Poland, Polish media cover problems of eagles, especially of White-tailed Eagles, rather than the ones of majority of other birds. Xx236 (talk) 08:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

What they need: Poland and mine-stubs, Categories by location (they usually list the counties, and those have categories; for example Lubin mine needs Cat:Lubin County), almost all of them need to link the places they are in and vice versa (for example, Tomisławice Coal Mine needs to be ilinked with Tomisławice, Greater Poland Voivodeship), talk: Poland and WikiProject Mining projects. I have taken care of interwikis, since I can add them on pl wiki and they will be moved by bot :> About half of the mines have no pl wiki article. Also, I think some of his articles represent potential mines, not existing ones (for example, according to Polish wiki, there is no Legnica Coal Mine; the ref given in that article has only one mention of Legnica, as a place for surface lignite mining. It is probably a good idea to leave that editor a message about what we had to do, and how he can improve his articles by adding such items himself in the future.

Articles tagged for CCI copyright problems and under Poland

This is a list of Poland-related articles (well, under 4 subcats of Cat:Poland, because CatScan does not go deeper) that are affected by this recent mess. I think we should help with it by reviewing those articles. How to help: use an archive version of the page and check it for copyvios (Google for sentences, see if anything suspicious comes up, if so you can report it here or act on it - remember that there are many websites that COPY from us, so just getting a hit doesn't mean it is a problem FOR US). Once the article has been reviewed, see what links to it, locate the corresponding page to add the report on "Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Darius Dhlomo x" and mark it as reviewed and its status there. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, Piotrus! The assistance of your project would be greatly appreciated here. :) One thing I would caution reviewers about: all creative content we have found by this contributor so far has been copied or closely paraphrased from a prior source. Given this contributor's history, we have to presume that any creative text he has added was copied from somewhere. Basic information, like "Soandso was an athlete who did this" is probably okay, if you find more extensive text, please check to see if it was added by User:Darius Dhlomo. If it was, please either remove it or rewrite it to be on the safe side. We very much appreciate your pitching in. :) We can use all the help we can get on this one, as this particular cleanup project involves over 20,000 articles. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:42, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
