Question regarding a discrepancy in stats[edit]

So I'm working on John Montgomery Ward's perfect game and I noticed that is a discrepancy regarding how many strikeouts Ward had. Baseball Almanac and author Ronald Mayer state there were two, author James Buckley states there were 6, the scorecard at the bottom of a SABR article seems to indicate there were seven, and the Wikipedia article itself says there were five. Quite frankly I have no idea where the 5 strikeout number comes from, no source I can find states there were five. What should I do? Famous Hobo (talk) 13:48, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's quite a dilemma. It appears with my old eyes that the SABR article boxscore credits 5 putouts to the catcher Emil Gross. That may be the root of the 5 strikeouts.Skilgis1900 (talk) 17:16, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What do we do with teams that get eliminated from postseason contention?[edit]

I need a refresher. Do we delete 'eliminated teams' from the AL & NL wild card race tables, in ongoing MLB season pages? GoodDay (talk) 19:40, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alvin Gipson image[edit]

The article on Alvin Gipson includes the image File:Alvin Gipson.png. The source isn't available and none of the online versions of the full image I can find list the players in it. I'm dealing with a VTRS ticket from Gipson's family who say the image is not him. Can anyone establish whether this or isn't Gipson. The image also seems to be being used as the citation to support the statement that he played for the Chicago American Giants which seems rather dubious and not a reliable source. • The image is labeled in the 2000 book Black Baseball in Chicago, and it does say it is Gipson (he's next to Pepper Bassett and Art Pennington). I wouldn't be able to confirm/dispute whether it's him or not myself, obviously, but if there is an error it's not the fault of Wikipedia. @Nohomersryan Thanks. How do you think we should play this out? Who is more likely to be correct, the authors or the family? Nthep (talk) 19:38, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No idea. One of the book's authors is a very prominent Negro Leagues researcher (Larry Lester) so my gut reaction is that it's probably him, but I can't see any reason his family would have to incorrectly dispute it, considering if it was him, you'd think someone who was related to/knew him would easily be able to tell. Nohomersryan (talk) 19:53, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If that image is indeed the 1941 American Giants, it seems to depict Ted Gipson, who played third base. Multiple newspaper clippings from 1941 refer to the Chicago player as Theodore or Ted Gipson. Here is an article from Aug. 1941 mentioning Alvin Gipson with the Black Barons that year, not the American Giants. Penale52 (talk) 21:10, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not the best image but this is Alvin. I propose removing the current image from the article. Nthep (talk) 14:43, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
