New drive[edit]

Zippybonzo Here is the drive setup copied from last month's drive, of course we can change the rules / barnstars / anything else as desired. When it gets closer to the date I'll ask Tol to set up the bot task. I will also handle mass messages to the NPP list to drum up participation. Thanks so much for your initiative! (t · c) buidhe 07:05, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Buidhe Well, you beat me to it… I probably should have spent less time composing that message. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:06, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Buidhe I am planning on sending a message about the drive to the NPP talk page towards the end of the month/start of next month, which I think is when we should start sending the majority of the mass messages. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:15, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last drive I heard from an editor who mistakenly believed that it was in June not July. So personally I would recommend waiting until September to start sending notices. Although we should get it included in any regular NPP communications, the best time to send a dedicated message specifically to join the drive is probably no more than a week in advance. (t · c) buidhe 15:23, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The co-ordinators for this drive are Buidhe, Zippybonzo, and ??. I should be able to help in late September and October. Suggestion: Add a goal for the backlog drive. Something like "backlog down to X (say, 6000)". -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:35, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MPGuy2824 great, I've added you as coord. I'm not sure about explicitly setting a goal however. It could be motivating if the goal seems achievable, but also demotivating if it's quite far off despite people's best effort. GAN drives don't have a goal set either and how many articles are patrolled/reviewed is difficult to estimate in advance. (t · c) buidhe 03:53, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe an easier goal, which we can change if it is achieved much before the end of October. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:02, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
During the November 2021 backlog drive, backlog reduced by 1276. The July drive was more successful and saw a reduction just over 4,000. If we're going to set an achievable goal I would recommend not picking an absolute value but rather 1,000 to 1,500 less than when the drive started; however, this goal may seem unambitious to participants as it wouldn't make an extremely dramatic dent in the backlog. Alternatively, we could measure reviews during the drive by participants which naturally would be substantially higher, and maybe easier to keep track of since it would just sum the leaderboard table. It looks like there were something on the order of 7-8,000 reviews done on the November 2021 drive for example. We could aim for 7,500 reviews total. (t · c) buidhe 05:18, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, that works too. Maybe we can request Tol to add a row for the Total, at the end of the table generated. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:26, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you need any extra help but I'm available to help if there's anything I can do beyond reviews (which I'll be doing). Hey man im josh (talk) 02:30, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man im josh, I think we are good this time. But if you are interested, you should watchlist this page, and the drive talk page, so you know what is involved. Then, you'll be prepped to be a coordinator in the next drive. During the drive you of course can answer participants' questions on that talk page (Point them to the FAQ if their question is answered there). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:02, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I figured there wasn't much else to be done, but thought I'd offer just in case. I've added both to my watchlist now =) Hey man im josh (talk) 11:34, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Buidhe MPGuy2824 seen as it's near to the date of the drive we should prep a massmessage and leave a message on the NPP talk page. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 19:25, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's still 24 days until the drive starts. I would hold off on mass messages until it's closer to the date. People will forget about it by then. I will send the mass message on the 24 or 25. May be worth a post on the NPP talk page but there's no need to worry about that for another few weeks. I did insert a mention into the next NPP newsletter, but I'm not sure when that gets sent out. (t · c) buidhe 21:27, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Was the last backlog drive listed at the top of people's watchlists, in the way that RfA, RfC, and some other backlog drives are advertised? Hey man im josh (talk) 02:33, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, because unlike GOCE or GAN drives, only NPP rights holders are invited to participate. (t · c) buidhe 06:11, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i think we should wait. I've asked MB about when the next NPP newsletter is expected to be sent. We can decide accordingly whether a separate message needs to be sent out, and when. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:15, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MB says that the newsletter is going out sometime later this month, but that the message about the drive should be sent separately. So 24/25th then? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:37, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will send it today while I'm thinking of it. (t · c) buidhe 21:02, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've also sent a reminder to everyone who signed up and has not participated yet. (t · c) buidhe 10:45, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
New Page Patrol | October 2022 backlog drive
  • On 1 October, a one-month backlog drive for New Page Patrol will begin.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles patrolled and for maintaining a streak throughout the drive.
  • Redirect patrolling is not part of the drive.

How are streaks going to be calculated?[edit]

It's not clear to be how the streaks are going to be calculated. Does "7 reviews per week" mean that an editor must do seven reviews within an seven-day period? Or that they must do seven reviews in each ISO-week during the drive? Or something else? Also, does the drive start in the local time for editors, or GMT? (bearing in mind that I'm in GMT+13 right now) Stuartyeates (talk) 04:31, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've just seen the 'Week 1', 'Week 2' etc columns in the leaderboard; presumably that's how the weeks are going to be calculated. Which leaves the question of the three extra days... Stuartyeates (talk) 04:36, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, we don't (yet) have 4-week months, which would make things a lot simpler for programmers and calendar makers :-). So, yes, 3 days will not be counted towards the streak awards. I'll just do a few checks and then clarify the exact days that are included in each week on the main drive page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Had a discussion with the other co-ords and this is what we decided: Week1:1st-7th, W2:8-14, W3:15-21 and W4: 22-EndOfMonth. Things are usually a bit slow towards the end of the month anyway. Cheers, and good luck! May you deserve an "Unnecessarily complicated gears" award at the end. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 10:44, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The start and end times for the streaks will be in UTC, just like for the backlog drive itself. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:41, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stuartyeates, the backlog drive has started in case you haven't noticed. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:30, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks MPGuy2824. It's school holidays here and I was travelling with my family for the week, which was one of the reasons for my question. Stuartyeates (talk) 19:11, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Draftification[edit]

Where does the leaderboard take the 'draftify' tally from? (The log only shows patrols and deletions.) I mainly draftify with my AfC hat on, is it somehow picking up those? Part of the reason for asking is that at the last drive there was some criticism of draftification as a patrol outcome, and as I was one of those with a relatively high draftify count, I just wanted to understand what's behind this. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:36, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tol: Since you run the bot that calculates this, please quench our curiosity. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 10:58, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, @DoubleGrazing and @MPGuy2824. It counts all moves from mainspace to draftspace other than those to a page starting with "Draft:Move/". Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:18, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, according to the leaderboard, I currently lead in draftifications and my count is correct. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:32, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bug with moved pages[edit]

Moved pages are currently not treated correctly in the "Patrol" column at the leaderboard. I have asked the bot operator Tol to fix this bug. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 03:20, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog drive - Week 1 report[edit]

An impressive 3500 points collected, in total. WaddlesJP13 is at the top of the leaderboard with 850 points, but all of the top 9 have over 150 in the last week. As of now, 42 participants are eligible for a streak award (min 7 reviews in the last week). The backlog has almost been halved in this week (5895 to 3079). With the reduction in unreviewed articles, you might be tempted to tag very new articles, but please be aware of the 15/60 min rule.

To reiterate, good job and happy reviewing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:02, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog drive - Week 2 report[edit]

2912 points collected, in total last week. WaddlesJP13 is still at the top of the leaderboard with 1285 points, but all of the top 10 participants have over 200 points. As of now, 33 participants are eligible for a streak award (min 7 reviews in both weeks). The backlog has been reduced by 78% since the start of the drive (5895 to 1268).

If you are having trouble finding articles that you are able to review, then you can do some re-reviews. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:34, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Points for redirect reviewing?[edit]

We hit zero backlog for non-redirects. FANTASTIC JOB EVERYONE. Very well done.

We have 10 days left, and we still have other queues we could move to, such as redirects and AFC. Would it make sense to have TolBot award points for one or both of those queues as well? Perhaps limited points, like 0.5 or something? –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:13, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If we do award points for redirects it should be at a reduced rate. Maybe a quarter point each? Hey man im josh (talk) 17:21, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Hey man im josh re 1/4 point for redirects, as I'm not involved in AFC I'll leave it to those that are to figure out what they're worth - It's great to see that main backlog down so low! Josey Wales Parley 20:14, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
AFC can (and does) run its own backlog drives. Also, its bad form to change the rules midway. If the article backlog remains low (say below 500) even after October, and the redirect backlog is deemed to be an issue, then maybe we can float the idea of a week-long redirect backlog drive in December. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:20, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
+1 to this (t · c) buidhe 04:21, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do like the idea of a minidrive for redirects instead of tacking it on midway through the drive. I think some of us may just want more things to review to keep our streaks alive. Maybe it's something that could be discussed for the next backlog drive? Hey man im josh (talk) 12:11, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog drive - Week 3 report[edit]

Well, this is awkward. The backlog drive was out of backlog, for a while. Drive goal achieved! This was far from our expectations when Zippybonzo and Buidhe started the backlog drive page. The backlog was about 11,000 then. But, the backlog does not stay still for long and new articles are continuously being created. Our new goal could be to keep the backlog low till the end of October (and beyond).

2447 points collected, in total, last week. 3 participants have crossed 500 points, and 9 more have over 200 points. As of now, 28 participants are eligible for a streak award (min 7 reviews in all three weeks).

Please do re-reviews: There have been 7900 reviews done, and only ~ 300 re-reviews. Our goal was to get to a ratio of 10% here. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 01:58, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Early end to the backlog drive[edit]

Because of the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, the coords have decided to end it early. We won't be tallying any more reviews or re-reviews after the end of tomorrow, 24 October. The last days of the drive will be counted as part of the previous week for determining streak awards. Thank you all for your amazing work getting the backlog to zero! (t · c) buidhe 04:51, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay. Just came here to ask about that. :)
BTW, why do the leaderboard numbers keep fluctuating? Is the algorithm iterating somehow, or has it to do with what happens to the articles after patrol, or something else? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:19, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Could you point us to a change that seems weird? The bot operator fixed a bug lately which may have led to a sudden big change in numbers. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:35, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed it already before, but don't recall the details. Now I saw that my week 2 tally, which earlier was somewhere around the 105 mark, first dropped down to 100, before going back up to 102. No biggie, obvs, just curious as to why this happens. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:00, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Might be related to this bug noticed above. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 11:44, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think if you were to say tag an article as unreferenced and it's later CSD'd and deleted that it would show up as one less review for you Josey Wales Parley 12:49, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the bug. The actual bug is that if a reviewed article has been moved, the patrol count is reduced by 1. It has now been fixed, and the "Deletion tag" count is now taken from https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Special:Log?type=pagetriage-curation&user=&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter=&subtype=delete instead of Special:Log/pagetriage-deletion. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 14:29, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable given how many new articles are created and the size of the remaining backlog. I'll get some more reviews done today to reach that 25 review mark. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:36, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I signed up late on the 20th, will I still be included? I haven't been added to the leaderboard yet. ––FormalDude (talk) 17:37, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@FormalDude: You have added a link to a page in the wrong namespace to the participants list. It has been removed now. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 22:39, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, rookie mistake. Thanks. ––FormalDude (talk) 23:11, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Time to submit your CSD logs[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

If you have any CSD/PROD/AFD that weren't counted by the bot, submit them here to get them included in the barnstar count. Deadline for this will be 28th August October 23:59:59 (UTC). To make the coords' lives easier, please only submit logs if your award tier will after change by adding it to your total. I've added an example below. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:26, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MPGuy2824: I don't have or can't find a user page log that keeps track of my AFD, CSD, and PROD tags that I applied using Twinkle. Is there a way to access this with Special:Log? Waddles 🗩 🖉 17:34, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Waddles, You have to set it in twinkle preferences then it makes a sub-page for you (it won't go back over old tags, just from whenever you set the preference) Josey Wales Parley 18:49, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseywales1961: Alright, thank you for letting me know. I'm assuming I won't be able to have the tags added to the count if that's the case? Waddles 🗩 🖉 18:52, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think you have enough without them to stay on top of the heap ;) - well done on the drive! Josey Wales Parley 18:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MPGuy2824: Do you mean 28 October (tomorrow) rather than 28 August? GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 14:28, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I came by to say Congratulations on the successful drive and saw that August 28th date. Maybe a error that happened through a cut & paste notice? Congratulations, by the way! Liz Read! Talk! 23:40, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i meant October. Fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:14, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
