Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
African/Black gerontologists and geriatricians have a very poor coverage on Wikipedia (as seen here Category:Gerontologists and Category:Geriatricians_by_nationality despite being notable. A purposeful effort by editors to look at developing articles based on Africans in this category not only creates a representation and adds up to this open knowledge base. It also encourages a new generation of Africans in/prospecting this discipline. It is not just Africans but African Americans too, as well as Black people in other continents.

This project's scope is too narrow. It would be better if you started a task force in Wikipedia:WikiProject Longevity or Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias.
