The Bird collaboration is a coordinated effort by WikiProject Birds to improve Wikipedia's bird-related content. However, being a member of WikiProject Birds is not a prerequisite for participation in this collaboration (nor, of course, is participation a requirement for membership in the WikiProject). All Wikipedians, regardless of their level of expertise on the subject, are welcome to contribute.
Aside from the main benefit of creating better bird articles on Wikipedia, it is hoped this initiative will a) Attract new editors to work on the Project; b) Improve the writing skills of existing editors; and c) Demonstrate the value of collaboration on Wikipedia. Additionally, some large bird articles may burn out individual editors before they reach Featured status. The ultimate goal of the Bird Collaboration is to get at least one bird or bird-related article featured every couple of months.
The bird collaboration was activated in March 2007 and was active until October 2008, during which time fourteen articles were worked upon, six of which are now Featured Articles. Following this, there was a hiatus until March 2009. Then followed four months with four collaborations, one of which is now Featured. There was only sporadic semiactivity from mid 2009 until November 2010, when the collaboration was activated again in earnest until mid 2013, when it again lapsed. It has been revived in June 2017 (taking advantage in a surge of activity in editing bird articles).
Any user may nominate an article to be collaborated upon. Nominees should:
- Be about any bird or directly bird-related topic.
- Need a significant amount of work in terms of content, organization, prose, etc.
- Not be in any edit conflict or be under protection.
If you would like to nominate an article, please add it at the bottom of the list of nominees along with a short note describing why you think it should be chosen.
Please use the following code when nominating an article.
''Nominated [[MONTH DAY]] [[YEAR]];''
- (sign with four tildes)
- (put your reason for nomination, sign again)
Please use the following code when voting to support an article.
A list of past collaborations can be viewed here.
Please list nominees below using the code laid out in the above section. Newer nominees should be placed on the bottom of the list. Feel free to vote for as many nominees as you wish, but only once per nomination. Please only vote to indicate support, do not vote in the negative. If you like, add a comment in the comment's section under nomination, or on the collaboration talk page. Articles will remain on the list for three months, after which time the list will be blanked/refreshed and voting started anew. For the current collaboration, see the template at the top of the page.
The next Bird collaboration will be chosen upon the current collaboration achieving Good Article status, or a months' inactivity.

Comments: An article on an order. My idea for the collaboration was something broad that might have benefitted from extra eyes and/or collaboration etc.Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 11:45, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- I think Dunkleosteus77 was working towards this end some time ago, perhaps wants to join. FunkMonk (talk) 13:19, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Comments: This is a well known, popular species with a lot of images with a fairly unbalanced article that could stand to be cleaned up and expanded a lot. Much easier to take on a species than an order. Sabine's Sunbird talk 15:20, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Comments: A decent sized article on an important genus that could use a collaborative polish Sabine's Sunbird talk 02:22, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
