  • Bmusique -> musician B Major = real name Bjorn Martin, get it? These three users in success have had, in the past month, a mutual drive to get the name of a particular music producer onto Wikipedia, with articles produced under a multiplicity of disambiguating titles. Bmusique99 and Quinton Daniels are now blocked. MasterKP19 is new, and kicked right off by replacing the content of Bjorn Basson with the same article about the A7-worthy Bjorn Martin/B Major; and then moved a draft with the same content into article space under the title B Major (Music Producer), which has been used before by the Quinton Daniels account. WP:DUCK because of B Major (record producer), which overlaps with all previous socks and, if memory serves me, the content is substantially similar. This account popped up not long after the previous sock was blocked. Ideally, it would be best to CU but I appreciate that the other socks might be stale. This account is a sleeper, created in 2017 (older than this master) and only resuming editing in October 2021. They are not editing solely about B Major either. Possibly a separate UPE (which in itself is also blockable)? Pahunkat (talk) 22:15, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you're right. I missed that one 2017 edit that they did. This is very, very odd - I'm not sure what to make of it. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:13, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • There was enough here to justify running a check on Motlatlaneo and comparing to some hints that were available in the CU logs from previous investigations. Based on that, I'd say Motlatlaneo is  Possible to Bmusique99, but  Inconclusive might be a better call. I'm not seeing enough in the behavioral evidence to convince me they're a sock and in fact I see a few patterns in they style of writing which is different from accounts in the archive. Closing with no action taken.
PS, given some 'gram and FB links on previous versions of their user page, it's likely the Motlatlaneo account is self-promotional. -- RoySmith (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This account was created a day after B Major (record producer) was sent to AfD and within two days had found their way to the AfD was already defending the article. Also some other behavioural factors:

Possibly a sock of the creator Motlatlaneo, but they don't use the mobile editor unlike Motlatlaneo so filing here. Since the behavioural evidence is probably not block-worthy in itself, requesting CU. Pahunkat (talk) 14:46, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

It's been over a year since the rash of socks that churned out articles and drafts about the South African musician B Major under a plethora of titles, and this submission is rather speculative, but perhaps at least a checkuser is in order (if checkusers are possible for comparing registered accounts that are over a year apart).

  • The previous proliferation of articles and drafts about the musician B Major by a flurry of sockpuppets makes this worthy of examination.
  • I knew about it because the creation by this user of Draft:B Major (Bjorn Martin) came up in my watchlist. That it's in my watchlist flagged for me that a draft had appeared under this title before. It's possible for there to be people who'd use a disambiguator to provide the artist's real name in place of a conventional disambiguator such as "(musician)" or "(South African producer)", but it could be a sign that it's the same person, or at that person's behest.
  • The user made 10 edits (OK, 11) and then dived right into this article in article space, from where it was moved to Draft a day later, so this appears to be the user's intent.
  • The user's name has "master" in it, similar to other sock names Scoutmaestro, MasterKP19, and USAmaster55, though I grant that "master" appears frequently in names from the rap/hip-hop/funk world.
  • As in past incarnations, fully half the article is about a tiff between B Major and YoungstaCPT. I'm curious as to whether it's the same content as in earlier iterations (which would be a dead give-away that this is a sockpuppet). This author has also added a corresponding "Controversy" section about the feud to the YoungstaCPT article. Largoplazo (talk) 21:55, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Following up, Hammersoft's observation that there is similarity with previously deleted versions is of concern. I'm starting to think now that without that, it may not be all the clear that this is a sockpuppet, based on the comments on Defunkedmaster's user page, and the user's having created other drafts in the same genre that have to relation to B Major and having made some edits in other articles. I was right to flag this account for attention, but based on what I, in contrast to an admin, can see, it isn't quite ducky. Largoplazo (talk) 14:19, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I know this has been wrapped up, but one final nail in case sockpuppetry is denied or another alias emerges: I was just reading Bjorn Martin's autobiography and discovered that he is "The Founder/CEO of the Defunked House Label “Soulistic View Records”. The same appears on his YouTube channel. That makes him the Defunked Master, correct? Largoplazo (talk) 02:22, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention guys, I have thoroughly gone through the sockpuppet history and saw that this article was tried to be created multiple times and failed. If I knew that this article was salted I wouldn't have published it to the live space in the first place. instead to keep it in the draft for when the time is right. I would never attempt to vandalize the encyclopedia because its the place I also come too for reliable and verifiable information. All my contributions and future contributions will be that of value to the encyclopedia, with the main focus of keeping Wiki a trusted source to always fall back on when one needs information about something or someone. I wouldn't want my account to be blocked because of this article although I took my time researching the information before publishing, its strange that I never came across a warning stating the name I'm creating is a salted for socking, I would've avoided this publish and continued with my other articles. Kind regards Defunkedmaster (talk) 18:35, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Defunkedmaster my best advice to you is to forgo anything to do with B Major and pursue your other Wikipedia interests, if any. S0091 (talk) 19:38, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Behavior matches prior incarnations. I've salted B Major (Bjorn Martin) against recreation. This editor is at this point a LTA. See also User:Hammersoft/adminlog#TempAnchor entries for variations on this theme. --Hammersoft (talk) 23:11, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Largoplazo: There's considerable similarity among deleted revisions. Even with out that, it's very obviously WP:DUCK. --Hammersoft (talk) 02:30, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Largoplazo; I'll let the checkuser handle this. I don't disagree with what you're saying. I just have a different perspective. I'm conscious of that, which is why I haven't immediately blocked, though I think there's plenty of evidence to do so. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:47, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've dug in to this a bit once I noticed the extensive history around Draft:B Major (Bjorn Martin) - my draftification of a really poorly sourced article slipped past admin edit protection on accident. I would note that this diatribe from the most recent sock (StephenWilliams021) is pretty similar to the circular nonsense here. Most of the sourcing, some of it pretty obscure, is the same as well. This looks like a duck to me as well. While the CU data is stale, I see some mentions of CU notes in prior blocks, so maybe that will help. I'm certainly disengaging from discussions with him for now: too much smoke. Sam Kuru (talk) 14:56, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DUCK rampantly applies. I've deleted the two articles they created at DJ Ready D and B major SA (musical artist) under WP:G5, salting the latter as it has repeatedly been recreated under many names. I've undone most of their other edits under WP:BLOCKEVASION. Awaiting checkuser to bag and tag. --Hammersoft (talk) 02:40, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
