Malo[edit]

Final (61/0/0) ended 00:48 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Malo (talk · contribs) – Malo has been a member of Wikipedia for more than a year now, and has been heavily active since August. In that time he has amassed more than 6,000 edits. Malo is a tireless vandal fighter. More appropriately, he's a vandal's worst nightmare. He's a vandal fighting machine with more than 25% of his edits in reverting vandalism. Just over the last two weeks alone, he has received 11 thank yous on this talk page (funny one [1]) for vandalism reverts, and received multiple awards for his efforts. He is not afraid to step in and fight vandals on contentious, frequently vandalized articles such as George W. Bush, Adolf Hitler and Scientology. In addition to reverting vandalism, he takes the time to place test messages on appropriate pages, having made more than 600 test message placements in his time here. This is an oft overlooked step even by admins, and can do much to help foster new users. He is calm with vandals ([2], [3], [4]), frequently signs for others (especially anon-IPs) ([5]) and often explains his reverts ([6], [7], [8]). He has demonstrated willingness to generate and defer to consensus ([9], [10]), requests and uses sources for information ([11], [12], [13]), and remains focused on NPOV ([14]). He also frequently thanks others for their efforts ([15], [16], [17]). In his editing, he has used edit summaries 99% of the time. He has contributed extensively to United States Navy articles, having made more than 1900 contributions in that arena. He has also uploaded more than 150 images and uses image tags appropriately. It's time to hand him the mop & bucket, as he's doing so much vandal fighting already and doing it very well. --Durin 20:49, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A. At the top of my list would be blocking presistant vandals as they often waste a great deal of other users time. I have often used WP:AIV for requests of intervention, and I would also help there. You can almost always find me in the WP:CVU IRC channel, even when not vandal fighting, and making other contributions. I would also be more interested in helping more with AfD's and checking through WP:CSD. I am also interested in WP:CV, as I feel that copyrights are too often overlooked, and must be addressed.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I have made a decent size list of some of "my articles" at User:Malo/Contributions. Some of those that I am especially pleased with are my contributions to:
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. Yes, back in early October, I was randomly looking for articles that were flawed in some way or another and then I'd try to do my best to fix them or clean up in some way. One of these was Henry Schlacks. I tagged this article for a {{nn-bio}} tag and shortly there after User:Kelly Martin left me a message about it. This is not my proudest moment on wikipedia, let me tell you all. My response was not typical of my attitude, and in response I did accuse this admin of being biased due to her association with a Wikiproject. While the issue never escalated, it has been on my mind. In hind-sight, the experience taught me to keep a cool and level head and not to take such edits too personally. I am not free of all fault, however I take each mistake that I make and learn from it. This one incident has been the biggest stress of mine on wikipedia. I have dealt with other minor issues in regards to editing conflicts with other users, in which I am a fan of the WP:1RR policy, as it helps to avoid unnecessary conflict.
