January 11[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on January 11, 2020.

Valeria Altobelli[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was converted to article so thus is out of scope of RfD. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 19:38, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A search for 'Valeria Altobelli' shows a completely different person. I see no link between the two. Willbb234Talk (please {{ping}} me in replies) 21:13, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable Middle-earth characters[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget where suggested, and delete the rest with no prejudice against recreation where discussed. I will also move Sador (disambiguation) to the base title since it will now be vacated. -- Tavix (talk) 18:45, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Angamaitë (and Angaráto, Angrod, ...) are characters in Middle-earth. However, none of them are mentioned in List of Middle-earth characters. They cannot be added to the list, as, in the lead, it states it is a list of notable characters only, and thus all its entries are blue-linked. So these redirects are not helpful. BenKuykendall (talk) 19:26, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yeah, after thinking about that, I agree with you on that one. Since Sador/Labadal does not receive mentions at the plot summaries of Tolkien's works, deletion is probably the best way to handle those redirects. Hog Farm (talk) 01:56, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Agree that they're non-notable. Faolin42 (talk) 04:41, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please Retarget Haldir to Húrin. Please note also that since there are going to be potentially hundreds of these redirects to attend to, it would be very helpful if everyone could do a search and attempt to retarget somewhere more sensible than List of ME characters before proposing deletion, or indeed before bringing things here if possible (I know that's a tough call, but "ask for what you want" is a useful maxim.) With the exception of Brandir (also retarget please, as above), the rest should be deleted. Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:19, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree that, if an appropriate target exists, a redirect is better than deletion. But in this case, the connection seems tenuous. Sure, Haldir is Húrin's uncle. But I don't see any further coverage of him in the article Húrin, unless there's something I'm missing. I'm not convinced unnotable characters should be redirected to their nearest notable relation unless the redirect is discussed non-trivially in the target.
You didn't bring this up, but as long as we're talking about procedure... it's always a challenge to bring many redirects to discussion. You can make many individual discussions, in which case it is hard to get participants in all of them. Or you can do mass discussions like this, in which case there is bound to be disagreement around a few. Hopefully we can reach the right consensus on all of the redirects. BenKuykendall (talk) 23:45, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per nom, without prejudice to Chiswick Chap or other editors boldly re-creating one or two redirects that might be useful. Doug Mehus T·C 18:15, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's an odd and roundabout way to do things. Redirects are cheap, and the three that have been mentioned have good homes to go to. The logical thing to do is to retarget them. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:31, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap: Since there was no history or attribution to retain, it seemed like a nice way to start fresh, but I am fine with deleting all except those one or two identified by you. Doug Mehus T·C 23:51, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:47, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy delete. The content has been history merged into Baggins of Hobbiton. — JJMC89(T·C) 10:08, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Very unlikely search term. Users are going to search for the article, not a draft. Hog Farm (talk) 05:59, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy keep. Nomination withdrawn, as nominator, I admit I missed mentions. (non-admin closure) Hog Farm (talk) 15:35, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Appears to only be mentioned in a Middle-earth sense at Wulf (disambiguation). Hog Farm (talk) 05:04, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Mentioned twice, with brief details, in the current target. Narky Blert (talk) 12:33, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brambles of Mordor[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was speedy keep. Content about subject has been added to article. Nomination withdrawn. (non-admin closure) Hog Farm (talk) 15:36, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Brambles" are mentioned once at the Mordor article, but in a very generic sense. Nothing in the Mordor article suggests that the Brambles of Mordor are a specific item someone would search for. Hog Farm (talk) 04:59, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, that was a fault of the article, not the subject. I have added two citations for the Brambles of Mordor, and a quotation. To be honest, since redirects are cheap and someone thought it worth writing about this topic, we should aim to preserve the coverage unless there is extraordinarily good reason not to do so. Redirects enable Wikipedia readers to find their way to topics, and even if there are not many of them, they are still our "customers", and our first duty is to ensure that their searches are successful and rewarded with at least a brief and sensible description.Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:28, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Round Green Door[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 22:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oddly specific and not mentioned under this name at the target article. I imagine this is a reference to the door to Bag End (Bilbo and Frodo's house), but that is never actually referred to by this name to my memory. Hog Farm (talk) 04:55, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Not mentioned in the target, therefore useless. (Even if Tolkien called it a round green door (I haven't checked), I'm pretty sure he didn't call it a Round Green Door; and even if he did, I'd want a citation to justify a keep.) Narky Blert (talk) 01:10, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment If I remember my The Hobbit right, it is round, green, and a door, but never referred to by those characteristics as a proper name. There are many round, green doors in the world. Hog Farm (talk) 05:10, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, I suppose someone COULD search like that but that really would be scraping the barrel. Much better search terms are already available. Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:27, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Dor-en-Ernil"[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 22:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We already have Dor-en-Ernil, and adding quotation marks around the title of this redirect makes this phrase an extremely unlikely search target. Hog Farm (talk) 04:44, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: ACK, expecting a decent search result for verbatim copy + paste snippets is one thing, adding the double quotes is not the job of redirects. Remotely related, I alerted WT:Me#RFD flood, they are supposed to know what should be rescued by adding missing targets. –84.46.52.190 (talk) 10:44, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
