Wikipedia:Proposed article splits
This is the page to make requests for the splitting of an article into two or more separate articles.
This process is usually undertaken to keep articles from becoming too large or unfocused; but may also occur when an element of an existing article gains substantial notoriety in its own right. In such a case, requests for splitting-off said content from an existing article into a newer, stand-alone article, should be directed here. After familiarizing yourself with the splitting process, please make your requests for article splitting below.
All split comments and discussions should be directed to the "discussion" subsection of the Original Article's Talk Page, NOT here.
Note[edit]
Splits of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Splits of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.
MERGING of ARTICLES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers.
Split requests[edit]
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed, as there may be a backlog, and splits often require considerably more discussion than, for instance, a merge request. To request a split, list the article below as well as requested target article title(s). Include a short descriptive reason why you think a split is in order. Please sign your request(s). Thank you.
Making a request[edit]
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below in "NEW REQUESTS" and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed on its own. After a split is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate. Please list new requests at the bottom of the section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the original article. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests can not be honored.
To request your split, copy the following template, paste it at the bottom of the NEW REQUESTS section, and fill in (replace) the article titles specific to your request, and give the reason why you think the page should be split. (NOTE: Often the original article name and one of the preferred new names are the same. However, at least one of the preferred new name(s) should appear red.) Indicate if your request will involve Page Moves, creating Disambiguation Page(s), or any other related work. Also, please indicate if you are willing to do the split if such a consensus is reached.
- Template
*Split Original article name into Split-article preferred new name 1 and Split-article preferred new name 2. GIVE YOUR REASON FOR THE SPLIT HERE. If agreed, I {will} OR {cannot} do the split. ~~~~
New requests[edit]
Awaiting consensus[edit]
After the involved article is tagged for the split discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age, disagreement, or lack of consensus.
- Split Australian Defence Force ranks into Australian Defence Force ranks and Royal Australian Navy ranks (possible further splitting into Royal Australian Navy enlisted rank insignia and Royal Australian Navy officer rank insignia. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Australian Defence Force ranks#Split Page. IronBattalion (talk) 23:09, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise into List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation and List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: Next Class. The list is way too long and convoluted. The fact that it is sorted by award and not by series, while I feel it isn't necessarily wrong, is a bit hard to follow for such a large franchise. Each series has a wealth of sourced awards and nominations that would warrant standalone articles anyway, especially Degrassi: The Next Generation. If the consensus is against splitting Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, their awards and nominations can also easily be reproduced in prose on their respective pages. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise#Proposed split. ToQ100gou (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Split Vice (TV series) into VICE (HBO TV series) and VICE (Showtime TV series), or VICE (2013 TV series) and VICE (2020 TV series). They need splitting because although VICE is technically the same overall show, Showtime (TV network) started their 2020 series with new episodes under the label season 1. They've since released a new season 2 in 2021. Therefore HBO's season 1 and 2 from 2013 and 2014, has nothing to do with Showtime's season 1 and 2 from 2020 and 2021, as they're both completely separate shows Danstarr69 (talk) 09:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

- Split List of Latin words with English derivatives into List of Latin nouns with English derivatives, List of Latin verbs with English derivatives, and List of Latin adjectives with English derivatives. Current article is too long. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 13:31, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of highest scores in figure skating into List of highest scores in figure skating and List of miscellaneous records in figure skating. This second article already exists in the existing article as its own section but it is updated and referenced frequently and doesn't contain any scores. If agreed, I can do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of highest scores in figure skating#Proposed split. DoctorTamago (talk) 07:09, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- WikiProject Television has been informed to garner more input. Felix QW (talk) 17:39, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
- Split Abreha and Atsbeha into Abreha wa-Atsbeha (Aksumite Rulers) and Abreha wa-Atsbeha (church). This article about the possibly fictional twin rulers contains a handful of information about the church named in their honor. I propose that the section about the church should be split into two separate ones: one about the rulers (in this case, the original article without the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha") and a separate one focusing more on the church (the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha"). If agreed, I will do the split. See the discussion at Talk:Abreha and Atsbeha#Proposed Split. -IntellectuallyOlder(Alt. Account) (talk) 19:01, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
- Split Christian Science into Christian Science and History of the Christian Science movement. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Christian Science#Splitting proposal. Shuri42 (talk) 16:00, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of professional sportspeople convicted into crimes into List of professional sportspeople convicted of crimes and List of professional baseball players convicted of crimes. The baseball section is certainly large enough to make its own page (and I've got several more articles bookmarked so as to expand it) and this article is already above the size at which it should "almost certainly should be divided" per Wikipedia:SIZESPLIT. I'm sure several of these sections could be big enough to become their own standalone articles if given a bit more attention. My only concern, however, is whether these sections would be notable enough as standalone articles. Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 23:39, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- Discussion taking place at Talk:List_of_professional_sportspeople_convicted_of_crimes#Splitting_proposal. Felix QW (talk) 21:10, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Split (DISCUSS) I Can See Your Voice and I Can See Your Voice (disambiguation) into I Can See Your Voice (franchise). The current state of the disambiguation page is incorrectly functioning as a basic franchise article, and the Korean-edition article is also incorrectly functioning as the franchise article. If agreed, I may be able to do the split, if I have not rotated off my IP address at that time so that I can be informed; if I have rotated, I may nolonger have this discussion linked to. As an IP user I may be reverted in any changes I make. See discussion at TALK: I Can See Your Voice#Split (2022): Create franchise article. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 14:11, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Split Science and technology in the United States into Science in the United States and Technology in the United States. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Science and technology in the United States#Should be split up. Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 09:42, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Split Ultimate Fighting Championship into two or three articles. It is way to large, two or three times the maximum size suggested. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Ultimate Fighting Championship. 2603:7000:2143:8500:589D:21E0:7739:C0D2 (talk) 07:12, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Split (DISCUSS) disadvantaged into disadvantaged (disability) and disadvantaged (economics). This article is housing two unrelated topics. Either one of the topics should be deleted from this page, or the page should be split in two. -- 64.229.88.43 (talk) 02:32, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Splitting conflict about windows 10, version 21H1 from windows 10 version history. According to special:history/windows 10, version 21H1, Y would my edits be reverted? Such consensus has been discussed since 2016 like this one and this one as well. Such discussions have resulted in AfD debates: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Windows 10 version history, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Windows 10 (original_release), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Windows 10 version 21H1 and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Windows 11, version 22H2. Last but not least, if we have pages like windows 10, version 1511, windows 10, version 1703, windows 10, version 1709, windows 10, version 1803, windows 10, version 1909, windows 10, version 20H2 and etc., then Y would any user bother undoing such modifications to convert windows 10, version 21H1 from a redirect to a page? - Split The Princess and the Queen into Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, Daemon Targaryen, Viserys Targaryen, overwriting redirects. Per the success of House of the Dragon, there is adequate information for seperate pages fo the main four characters. Drafts have been created for Rhaenyra and Alicent, pending edits. - Split Mollusca into Mollusca and Hypothetical ancestral mollusc. I believe that the section of the page Mollusca describing the "HAM" warrants its own article, as it goes into detail about the concept of the "HAM" and its description. The "HAM" is not necessarily a vital subject for an article about mollusca in general, and I believe it should be its own subject. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Mollusca#Proposed split. Di (they-them) (talk) 20:58, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- Split Apple Watch into Apple Watch, Apple Watch (1st generation), Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch Series 2, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra. The current article, in particular the comparison of models section, is too long. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Apple Watch#Proposed split. TechnicalNewt (talk) 08:19, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Split Steve Mac into Steve Mac production discography and Steve Mac. Mac has a large discography that should be split into a different article. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Steve Mac#Proposed split. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 12:23, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Split Carols by Candlelight into Carols by Candlelight (for the general tradition, and listing Carols by Candlelight events around the world); and Carols by Candlelight (Melbourne) (for the televised concert in Melbourne on Christmas Eve each year). I think the need for the split is obvious, but it might be contentious which one is the primary topic (details at the talk page). If agreed, I will eventually the split. See discussion at Talk:Carols by Candlelight#Proposed split. Adpete (talk) 04:14, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Split Carlos Ghosn into Carlos Ghosn and Arrest and flight of Carlos Ghosn, to avoid his BLP placing such undue emphasis over only 4 years of his life. If agreed, I am willing to do the split. See discussion at Talk:Carlos_Ghosn#Length. DFlhb (talk) 02:33, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- Split Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow into Pokémon Red and Blue and Pokémon Yellow. The games are totally different games. The pages were merged without appropriate clear consensus. Yellow has its own coverage and different mechanics different from Red and Blue. Red and Blue and Red and Green should not even be the same article, let alone Yellow. They are literally not even the same games. The games were hastily split inappropriately in the first place and shouldn’t have been merged. The games don’t even have the same graphics and plot line. This would be like merging Avatar 1 and Avatar 2 just because they are both Avatar. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk: Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow#Proposed split of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow into Pokémon Red and Blue and Pokémon Yellow. Yeungkahchun (talk) 19:04, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- Split Styx into Styx river and Styx (deity). These sections describe two separate conepts in Wikidata Styx (Q8843276) (river) and Styx (Q542758) (deity). If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Styx#Proposed split. Saarik (talk) 20:16, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Split Yellow Swans#Discography into Yellow Swans and Yellow Swans Discography. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. However, I already created a full draft for the proposed split, see: Draft: Yellow Swans Discography. See discussion at Talk:Yellow Swans#Discography. I wanna be clear that the reason I think the split is necessary is that this band has over sixty different releases, most of them released under an alias, which makes it incredibly hard to organize it all in a small section, or at least organize it in a readeable way. scapegoat (talk) 21:41, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

- Split Fushimi-no-miya into Fushimi-no-miya and Family tree of the extended Japanese line of succession. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. I want to do a straightfoward split of the section Fushimi-no-miya#Family Tree into its own article. I'm not sure if it is worth splitting, but I think it deserves its own article alongside Family tree of Japanese deities and Family tree of Japanese monarchs. Probably needs a better name. - Split Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil into Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil and Directorio Revolucionario 13 de Marzo. They are two different movements, one was in the Cuban Revolution, one was made a year after it ended. I believe they both fought in the Escambray Revolution, but am not 100%. - Split Lingotto into Lingotto (district) referring to the geographical area within Turin, and Lingotto (building), referring to the multipurpose building in Via Nizza, as the two are completely separate topics. The introduction of the article makes it seem as if the article is about both, which is really confusing, specially when it's mostly about the building. Milo8505 (talk) 19:35, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

- Split Patentable subject matter into Patentable subject matter with a small section about USA (I will write it, please leave there only the first two paragraphs) and [[Patentable subject matter in the USA], where the current text in the "United States" section will go. - Split Twitterature into Twitterature and Weird Twitter. The "Weird Twitter" standalone article was merged in 2016, but would by now seem to clearly meet GNG. "Twitterature" is also a bad and mostly unrelated merge destination. (I hope this is the correct page for "un-merge" requests.) If agreed, I cannot do the split. Archived and rejected split requests[edit]
When article discussion and split has been completed (if closed as proceed), notate and move the request to the TOP of the following ARCHIVED list. Articles that have been rejected for splitting should go here directly from the AWAITING CONSENSUS list. Please notate both types as Done, or Not done.
- Split NF (rapper) into NF (rapper) and NF discography. The artist has 6 studio albums, 2 EPs, a mixtape, and about 25 singles, the majority of which have charted on multiple major country music charts, and several have won music awards. Due to the extensive nature of the discography, it would help de-clutter the original article to split it. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:NF (rapper)#Proposed split. - Split Kinder House and Ewelme Cottage into Kinder House and Ewelme Cottage. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. Prosperosity (talk) 07:13, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Split 2023 Nigerian general election into 2023 Nigerian general election and 2023 Nigerian elections. I have long been against this page split; however, a proponent of the page split has continuously blocked a page move on account of the page not being split while simultaneously refusing to open a page split discussion. Thus I am opening this discussion to finally resolve the issue. If agreed, I may be available to do the split. See discussion at Talk:2023 Nigerian general election#Page split dispute, August 2022. - Split Credit union league into Credit union central and Credit union league. They're two different concepts as one is a payment clearing gateway and the other is a trade association.
