Hello, Vlatkoto. Thank you for the message on my talk page. I am not an expert on that part of the world, having never been there. Most of my editing for articles in Southeastern Europe consists of improving the wording, making the English more precise or more natural, and sometimes trying to make articles have a more nuetral point of view. There have not been many editors from the RoM here on the English language Wikipedia, so I am glad to welcome another. Do you have a digital camera? Can you add pictures that are not from websites? Concerning Ancient Macedonians

Hi Vlatkotko. If I ever missed of respect to you then accept my apologies; I would never do intentionally such a thing to a fellow-lover of The Lord of the Rings ;-) As for Ancient Macedonians, what I objected to was that it appeared from your edit that the slavic tribes had merged with a distinct Macedonian ethnicity in the 6th century; this is not accepted by any non-macedonian scholars, because it is accepted that the ancient Macedonian language started vanishing in the 4th century BC, substituted by koiné Greek; a quite common thing, that happened also to many Anatolian and other Balcanic people. Scholars so believe that Macedonians had been thoroughly hellenized by when the Slavs arrived, and (very probably) merged with them. As for the other objection, if I get it right that you're speaking of the introduction summary of the article, you mustn't make confusion between Bulgars and Bulgarians; the first are Turkish-speaking, the second Slavic-speaking, and it is told by Theophanes and Nicephorus, and confirmed by the Oxford Byzantine Dictionary, that a group of Bulgars settled early in Macedonia, Pelagonia maybe, but I would have to control. I understand that this is your point of view, and I respect that although as a Greek I disagree with it, but in wikipedia we do our best for WP:NPOV. And it is POVish to insert such a phrase in the leading section of an article about a country. Please refrain from doing such narrow minded edits.

Rewriting Articles

Vlatko, in response to your message on my talk page ... I think that's a great idea! In fact, I even started something similar on my older user page (which has since been deleted). I had rewritten articles such as "Macedonian Orthodox Church" and "Macedonians (ethnic group)" ... do you think a portal-type setup would be appropriate for indexing the articles? I don't think it would be appropriate to have them on subpages (of user pages) as you suggested. Maybe we could ask some administrators for their views and suggestions on how to go about starting a project like this? Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin

This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned.

You have a userbox Template:User UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create Lists of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.

There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.

Hi, you made this edit, I'm afraid it's not true, the Republic of Macedonia's government makes no land claims (whether it used to is another question). Hello Vlatkoto. Please do not create empty articles as you have for Gostivar municipality and dozens other Macedonian Municipalities. Empty articles do not contribute to the encyclopedia, and needlessly consume resources. They will all have to be deleted according to Criteria for speedy deletion A1 and A3. Hello! I hope you're well and thanks for your note. You will observe that the RoM article is currently locked because various editors recently decided to forego a prior consensual edit (which I partially crafted and have supported in the poll) and change the introduction. Excessive discussions preceded the vote and continue (for reasons unknown) throughout it. I think the poll is the only way to choose a mutually agreeable introduction – one option only – that will allow us to move forward and enhance the article.

And if it means anything, I do not understand the positioning and insistence of the other Greek editors either: my father is Greek, but I live in the Great White North. As for your proposal to introduce a similar debate with the Greece article, I think you'll have a hell of a time doing so but perhaps this should be considered. Anyhow, I hope this helps. Greek Macedonians

They are the native Greek-speakers of Macedonia who formed a majority in the villets of Thessaloniki and Monastiri during the Ottoman occupation of the region. This of course is sourced in the respective talk page. Typically they are regarded as the ancestors of the ancient Macedonians. Miskin 01:42, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

As Greece generally hides the presence of a Slavic minority in its Norther-most region, similary FYR Macedonia hides the historical presence of a Greek majority in what they call "Aegean macedonia". Most of Macedonian Slavs are convinced that no Greek has ever inhabited Macedonia prior to 1913. This is of course to neutral historians a completely silly conviction. It's hard to make some wikipedia editors realise this. Miskin 01:47, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I think like a modern person who wants to see Bulgaria and former Yugoslavia in EU; I am a person who says borders must be respected and old dreams to calm down; if Bulgaria thinks of San Stephano borders and Greece of Byzantine borders, and Turkey of Ottoman borders we will spend all our money buying F-16 fighters and stupid Eurofighters. Some tips on copyright

Hi! No image you find on some website is actually free-licensed unless expliticly specified, i.e. all images are copyrighted and unsuitable for Wikipedia if it does not say otherwise on the website. Please don't upload images you "found on Google" as they will soon be deleted, and don't put {{GFDL}} by just assuming the license is GFDL, but having no evidence for it. About Albanian language

I haven't said that Albanian is prevalent in the RoM (yet!). But it is an official language and it is spoken by 35% of the population. Don't deny a simple reality. I also wonder if you'd remove "Lerin" from the Florina article, according to your reasoning. And Macedonian is not even an official language in Greece! -- Avg 20:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

The Rainbow Party, the only body offering recognition of existance to a Macedonian minority, received 3,000 votes in the latest elections. Therefore, we can assume that the number of people who are and want to be Macedonians is 3,000. Telex 00:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

To answer your question, in Greece live about 3 million Macedonians. This is the population of the peripheries of East, Central and West Macedonia. There is no evidence that people exist with a "Macedonian" ethnic feeling in Greece any more than there is for people with Japanese ethnic feeling in Greece. The only evidence is the political party and its 3,000 supporters. Telex 01:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

If Vlatkoto had asked me how many Slavic speakers are in Greece, I wouldn't say 3000, but perhaps ten times that. Of course there are Slavic speakers in Greece. Slavic speakers <> "Macedonians" though. If they were feeling oppressed and wanted to express their frustration, voting for the only party that recognises such an issue and advocates against it would be a minimum. The Agreement met the Albanian demands with regard to establishing the official
status of the Albanian language. Every other language other than Macedonian – which
remains the main official language, to be used for example in foreign relations – that is
spoken by more than 20 per cent of the population will henceforth be an official
language on the central level as well as in communities where more than 20 per cent
of the population speak that other official language. In fact, only Albanian fulfils this
condition. Languages other than Macedonian which are spoken by at least 20 per cent
of the inhabitants of a municipality will, however, also serve as an official language in
local self government. Furthermore, the government will henceforth have to provide
university education for language communities which speak another official language
than Macedonian. This way the protracted ‘Albanian university’ issue, which has been
a cornerstone of Albanian political activism in Macedonia since the early 1990s,
should finally be put to rest.

RE: Municipalities of the Republic of Macedonia, et al.

Hello! Thanks for your note. I recently created the table at and added details to the above article and realised that another article existed (the one you created).

I'd be happy to merge the two, but my main stumbling block is the map. I want to create or retrofit a map for Macedonia similar to those that I've created for Canada and Norway: essentially, use of different colours for different regions and using the two-letter HASC codes (MK.xx) to name the municipalities instead of numbers as you've done (which I can't quite follow). While I've been able to find and extract maps of the pre-2004 borders (which require much finessing), I've had difficulty finding a map that I can adapt of the current municipal borders. Thanks! I tried to incorporate your contributions (e.g., from the table) into the article I've recently developed. I've yet to include notes of urban/rural municipalities: where are these distinguished? As well, would you be able to provide me with a precise link to a map (either as an image or in a PDF) on the website you provided? I actually can't read Macedonian (!), but I can somewhat muddle through using comparisons and have an interest. :)

I'm open to suggestions about moving forward. I recently created but haven't yet used this template (which currently links to the article I've recently enhanced, not yours) from yours, which you should be able to include in any municipality article instead of adding cumbersome code. I appreciate your concern, but our personal preferences must be kept out - mine included, of course. According to UN resolutioin 817 [2]and [3], the UN received the Republic of Macedonia on 7 April 1993 under the name, ‘Former Yugolav Republic of Macedonia’. Ciao! Vedo che parli italiano! Sono un utente italiano e sto curando gli articoli sulla Wikipedia italiana che riguardano la Repubblica di Macedonia (li ho praticamente tradotti dall'inglese tutti io!). Sto cominciando a tradurre gli articoli sui municipi macedoni, anche se in inglese non ce ne sono tanti, e nel tradurli in italiano ho bisogno delle immagini, soprattutto le mappe delle posizioni dei vari municipi... Dovrei caricarli su Wikipedia Commons.. Però sono in difficoltà e l'autore delle immagini sei te! Poi spero che aumentino gli articoli sui municipi in inglese perché devo tradurli (purtroppo non so parlare macedone anche se un poco lo capisco)... Ho incontrato qualche problema durante la traduzione dei Municipi. Un altro utente ha detto di tradurre Општина con Comune, invece di Municipio. Come mi consigli? Inoltre questo utente non pensa che i municipi siano l'unica divisione amministrativa e che le regioni abbiano un valore amministrativo e non solo statistico. You did not cite any sources - we were begging you to, but you didn't. Until the municipality website (or some other official website) shows it, it is unsourced. Sopotnica also uses the Vergina Sun, but it appears on their website, so no one is touching it. --Telex 22:45, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

400 thousand? Yeah right - there are more like 3,000 Macedonians in Greece (probably even less). Assuming there are as you claim there are, the ethnic composition of the Republic of Macedonia would be 47% Greeks, 34% Macedonians, 11% Albanians and 8% Bulgarians. By the way Vlatko, you still did not respond to my question from yesterday. There seems to be something bothering you about the fact that you are in Bulgaria. Is it that you are not doing well in school? Is it that you can't speak the language very well? Or is it that you feel too oppressed by local "propaganda" and can't relate to anyone? Or just you found out that you hate the people because of their prejudice and discrimination against you?
