Can I get a hand up?

Hi, See you authored this template I was trying to steal a technique from and you are still very active,...

Can you lend me a hand?

... I know squat about css and the under templates just totally lost me. All I'm trying to do is have the includeonly/noinclude states show or not show the table as you can see in the wikicollapsible class in this diff. Note the Common.CSS files are not identical on the Wikibook. I've got a dozen or so sub-pages of like kind to use this trick on, so would really appreciate the secret! If you can help, I'd really enjoy getting unstuck!

Questions... talk back here so I'll see a alert banner. Thanks // FrankB 23:11, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm trying to get the html line in the above diff to work differently when the sub-page is viewed directly or included. In the second case, two different versions oriented pages will include the sub-page, and expanding the page link is properly working, meaning the table manifests as a link which more or less says click here to see table.
  • However, clicking to see the table when editing the page is both annoying and counterproductive. Getting the lashed up table to manifest clean and clear is where the editor needs to focus (since things get ugly with citations sourcing clutter)—not on extra clicks so he can view the preview. Or so I've found out for me likings! [The benefits of taking a new look in the morning light... This did the key need... seeing the page automatically in edit mode. I merely had to move the <includeonly> over a bit.
  • This still leaves the question as to how I might emulate the view, edit, history links (v e h) we see here in so many collapsible templates. Obviously parserfunctions are in play there, and full url formations similar to the guts of {{plain link}} or utility maintenance templates like the meta template Template:Lts(edit talk links history)...
  • Okay, following that thought, seems to be a working fix-with the benefit of being the same page as my first diff, we've come full circle to a solution.
Send me a bill for the psych consult, I appreciate the hand holding! Best regards // FrankB 16:23, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Australia Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hi Tiger, I agree that not everyone know where Hollywood is, but that's exactly what the Hollywood article is for; not everyone knows where Los Angeles is, and that's what that article is for. We don't need maps showing a landmark up to the country level, that is overkill and pointless. Once you tell in the article that's where the building is (Hollywood, CA), they can go to it from the Hollywood link. Imagine the article on Eiffel tower showing the location on a map of the Paris district, then map of the whole city, then whole department, region, province, country, Western Europe, Europe, then the whole Earth... Sure this is an option, but is it smart to do that? And the Broadway building is nowhere as famous as the Eiffel tower, why would it deserve such detailed treatment? 50.184.12.231 (talk) 08:08, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

  • 50.184.12.231, could you log in with a normal user name. The Broadway Hollywood Building is the test for the changes made based on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Architecture#Template:Infobox_building_maps. Note that the English WP format was based on fr:Gare de Lille-Flandres, which includes the map for all of France. Also note that fr:Tour_Eiffel includes a map with its location in France.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 09:25, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

I was accessing it from the mobile app version and all maps are shown. It's particularly annoying having to scroll through several pages of maps just to get to the text... Taiko FAC

Hey Tony-- I'm looking for someone to do a spot check of sources in Taiko for the current FAC for the article. Is there any chance you can spare some time to review the sources on the article to make sure the claims in the article are accurately supported by the sources? Thanks, I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:56, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 10

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2014–15 Big Ten Conference men's basketball season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Malcolm Hill. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi Tony,

I was wondering if you could help out with sourcing and with copy-editing the lead of List of Metra stations. You are a phenomenal content creator over at WP:CHICAGO and wondered if you'd be able to lend some knowledge into this list, as I hope this can be promoted to FL status not long from now. RE: Jalen Brunson image feedback

Hello there! I appreciate you coming to me for a response, it means a lot. First of all, you took excellent photos of Jalen Brunson. I can tell you are a very talented photographer. Anyway, I really like image #3 a lot. It is the brightest image of Jalen, and it is a great action shot of him. Until the McDonald's All-American Game, I would use #3 as your primary photo. Thanks again for asking for my feedback! --NJ Jurrjens (talk) 04:36, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Henry D. Thoreau and associates

Hi Tony! Paine Ellsworth has pointed out that essays are not italicized after I did an italics run, and I was wondering if you had a reason to italicize the Essay section of your template Henry David Thoreau? Or was this a mistake at the time? I had changed the page titles on all of them to italics. Thanks, italically yours, Randy Kryn 16:49 30 March, 2015 (UTC)
