I have seen you created a number of good articles related to middle-earth. May I suggest to start articles saying what their context is? See for example [1]. This is a standard practice in Wikipedia. - Liberatore(T) 16:00, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you've created and edited a great deal of Lord of the Rings articles. While this is appreciated, I wanted to point out the correct way to begin an article. You seem to name the article and then give the defintion, such as:
Yule
Celebrated by Hobbits.

A correct article should start by stating the object (Yule, in this case) and then state the obvious. That is, assume the reader has no idea what you're talking about. Then you can get down to the nitty gritty of what you're talking about. For example:
Yule is a fictional holiday mentioned in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings saga. Lots of technical LotR stuff here...

If you poke around Wikipedia, you'll see most article start in this fashion. I hope to see more of your valuable contributions! — Frecklefoot | Talk 20:57, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Fivearmies-lee.jpg[edit]

Hi. I noticed you uploaded this Image:Fivearmies-lee.jpg and added it to Battle of the Five Armies in the warbox. I was wondering if the copyright information is correctly used. What was the source, his 'Lord of the Rings Sketchbook'? Do you have written permission from Alan Lee to use it?

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, its just sometimes newer editors don't have a grasp on which license is applicable to uploaded works. I'd rather see us work to resolve any problems with the image than have it deleted for copyright violation and have you annoyed because either you did indeed have permission or had tagged it incorrectly.

In any case, I guess let me know. :) --Syrthiss 21:24, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That image was copyrighted for a 1997 edition of The Hobbit. You've got some other images from Lee, the recent movies, and Tolkien himself that are labelled 'free use'. They are probably still usable, but need to be identified correctly. I've re-tagged them with {{film-screenshot}} (some of these might be {{promophoto}} though) or {{art}}. --CBD 02:18, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

When you create disambiguation pages, keep in mind that they are there to separate two or more different topics, not pointing to only one. A few disambiguations that you have recently created were tagged for speedy deletion. Please see CSD G8. -- King of Hearts | (talk) 21:45, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Page Blanking[edit]

On 30-Dec, you blanked Hama (disambiguation). Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it so that the speedy delete referred to by King of Hearts can actually take place. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 00:43, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the Half Gauntlet! I have a question regarding the section you recently added to Rudnaya Pristan. The whole "Health issues" section seems to come directly from this website. I was unable to find that the information of the Blacksmith Institute is copyrighted, but I also did not find anything releasing the information on their website into public domain or under a free license. Could you, please, explain, why you think the material you added qualifies for free unattributed distribution? Thanks.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 12:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the explanation. I wish copyright-related issue could be handled the way you described; unfortunately, that is not the case. Please also note that it's not the matter of my interpretation, but the way Wikipedia and real world work overall. Any written work is always copyrighted, unless it is explicitly released into public domain or distributed under a free license. Lack of copyright notice does not mean information can be freely distributed.
For more details, which will hopefully be useful to you in the future, I send you to WP:COPY, a Wikipedia's policy, and to Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ, its interpretation.
I will also remove the passage you added, although you are very welcome to re-write it, keeping the main points and facts.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 00:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:AtsugaiA.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:AtsugaiA.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 20:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Ceorl.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ceorl.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Non-free use disputed for Image:Toweramonsul.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Toweramonsul.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
