Selective deletion on Sasha Grey

Looks like Oversight is taking its time. For the meanwhile, I want to do a Selective deletion of the relevant edits (especially the one that the Major keeps linking to!) but to do it right would require taking out this worthwhile edit of yours from the history. Please confirm that that's OK with you. The other edits I need to take out don't seem to have contributed anything we don't specifically want to remove. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 14:06, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Go ahead, and thanks for the warning. I've saved that particular edit to a text file here so when you do the deletion, I can easily re-add the info. As a side note, I'll likely be largely AFK over the next few days... visiting my dad and also setting up two new computers: mine and his. Tabercil 15:27, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Done. The issue isn't deleting the information, it's deleting your attribution. Take a look - it now looks like I added that stuff, because I was the first to edit after that swathe of edits was blown away.
For other things, I did that cross-product article-Class/article-importance thing you asked about. Take a look at, for example, Category:Stub-Class Mid-importance Pornography articles. We may be the first WikiProject to have something like that!
Finally, AFK, wow; hope your RFA doesn't hit any snags while you're not there to answer questions. It seems to be going very smoothly so far. --16:09, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I won't totally be away... I'll be checking in a couple of time over the next few days, but not with my normal frequency. Tabercil 16:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Good luck on the RfA

I make it a practice to never vote on RfA - my editing life has enough wikidrama without getting involved in that page. Every once in a while, though, I see the name of an editor whose work I know and respect. It is a pleasure to see your name there, and to see that the community as a group also holds you in very high regard. I have no doubt you will be a conscientious and disciplined admin. Good luck! Risker 23:45, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, I am impressed, I thought you'd make it, but I was sure it would be more controversial than this. UnanEMouse! --AnonEMouse (squeak) 14:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Never mind. I'm a jinx. :-(. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 15:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

You're an Admin!

Congratulations! Your RfA reached consensus and you are now an admin. -- Cecropia 16:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations, Tabercil! You'll be a great admin. Wait a minute... you said "vote" instead of "discussion"??? Strike my vote! ;) Dekkappai 16:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

New Admin list

Let me drop this list on your talk page too, so people will know you've been pointed to it.

  1. Wikipedia:Advice for new administrators - advice
  2. Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list - the more important policies
  3. Wikipedia:Administrators' how-to guide - mechanics
  4. Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard - discussion
  5. Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents - more heated discussion :-)
  6. Category:Administrative backlog - stuff to do

That looks like a lot, but don't panic. You are not required to know everything at once, or do everything at once. One of the most important things to remember is that there are 1200 other administrators, all, by definition, more experienced than you. So if you aren't sure about something ... don't do it ... if it is really important and really needs to be done, someone else will cover for you. Again, if in doubt, don't. There is usually plenty to do at the backlog categories that is useful, absolutely obvious, and not controversial. For a while, stick to that. You'll know when, and if, you feel comfortable to do the more controversial stuff -- if you never do, that's fine too, the non-controversial work is no less useful to get done. Feel free to ask questions, though - me or someone else, or WP:AN or WP:AN/I. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 17:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, one of the fun things you can start with is picking the little template for the corner of your user page. It's a good idea to mark yourself as a wielder of the mop. The options are at Template:Administrator. :-) --AnonEMouse (squeak) 17:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Article help request

Hi, first off, congratulations on becoming an admin. Second, I was hoping you could me cleanup the Claudia Ciesla article. I am in contact with her photographer/publicist who is nice and helpful (gave permission for images, send me newspaper clippings for sourcing (are you any good at German? :) ) but definitely also has a COI on the article. This article is a little outside my normal editing so a more expert look could help for sure. Garion96 (talk) 20:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

LOL... I have enough trouble with English. <G> French I know just barely enough to be able to grasp the main concepts (especially if I have a French-English dictionary handy). German is right out. <G>
Now, the clean-up. First issue is the newspaper clippings. They'll be of great help in terms of adding to the article, but the most important problem I can see is that you'll need to fashion cites for the items from the newspapers. Did the publicist send you copies of the articles? Do the articles state where they came from? If so, what you might want to do is to see if the article is already on the net at the website of the newspaper/magazine and you can link there.
Is that of any help to you? Tabercil 22:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes and no. :) He did send me copies of articles, with the date and name of publication in tact. When I have more time I will try to translate them (I do know some German) and add references to the article. Even if there if the article is not on the net anymore, paper is good too. :) But basically I also want to remove non encyclopedic stuff from the article, but my expertise on this is perhaps not good enough to decide on that. Like "She has many internet fan groups like her U.S. fan group." "posing for a very aesthetic and tasteful topless shoot" etc etc. Garion96 (talk) 22:36, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Go ahead, be bold! It was actions like adding cites that earned my admin hat; who knows, if you do the changes it might start you down the road to becoming an admin! It may be tempting to do it all at once but I would strongly suggest doing small changes at a time. For instance, first clear out all the point-of-view material and fancruft such as your suggested statements, and make sure you state that's what you're doing in the edit summary! (Otherwise you run the risk of being blindly reverted). Then start adding in the fact and citations; I would suggest taking one or two articles at a time and see what you can derive from it. Add the gleanings from the article, then save it and go on to the next article - that's how I do it. After all, there's no limit to how many revisions you can make to an article... just remember to preview your changes! I've added the article to my watchlist so I'll see what revisions you're doing and will add my $0.02 to the article Talk page as well as your own talk page if I see a problem or have a suggestion. Tabercil 22:53, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
LOL. I am an admin already. I just never edit these articles and don't want to over upset a friendly person with a COI. :) That's the reason for the second opinion. But you confirmed what I thought, I will start cleaning up soon after I translate some of the stuff. Garion96 (talk) 10:12, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

What's your view on the Wifey's World edits? I have no interest in getting into an edit war over it, but I feel that if the information is reliably sourced, as it is, that it should be kept. Corvus cornix 22:04, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, I reviewed User:VVVZ's edit history and I'm seeing that he's basically an SPA whose only actions have been to remove the real names of the people behind Wifey's World. I do understand his concern about privacy and the compromise I hammered out with him at the time was to refer to the Arizona Republic article but not to the online version of the article (as seen here). Does the real name need to be in the article? At this point I'm leaning towards no as I'm viewing as Wifey's World as relatively low on the scale of things. Tabercil 22:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Like I said, I'm not going to edit war over it. Corvus cornix 23:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Her real surname isn't spelled correctly as "Ried"; it is indeed "Reid". See these links from IMDb, IAFD and AFDB for verification: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1917609/, http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=AmyReid/gender=f/Amy-Reid.htm and http://www.adultfilmdatabase.com/actor.cfm?actorid=37735

Please revert to my original changes. Chaweb 00:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Nope. I wish to point out to you the AVN articles in the where they report Amy's recent wins at the 2007 FAME Awards and 2007 AVN Awards. In both cases, AVN spelled her name "Amy Ried", and I would trust AVN to get it right over those sites. "Amy Reid" is listed as an alias. Tabercil 00:42, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
    • What about her website, http://www.amyreid.com? (Note that http://www.amyried.com does not exist) Anyways, we don't even know if "Amy Reid/Ried" is her real name; they both could be aliases. To prevent further confusion, I think it would be fair to at least mention the alternate spelling of her name in bold at the top of the article.
  • What about the fact that in June 2006 Digital Sin released a video entitled called "My Plaything AMY RIED"? See here for a press release on it. Her chosen stage name appears to be RIED and that's how we're referring to her. As for her real name, I'm betting it's not either name. Tabercil 05:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Tabercil,
Just a brief note of our thanks for your recent editing.
We sincerely appreciate that you've once again given this issue your personal time and attention.
Thanks again Tabercil for being a take-charge person with a heart.
With warm regards,
User:VVVZ

PS: If you would, please remove the full name in the sentence regarding the polaroid placed on Usenet. Thanks again.

Ok, now I'm confused. a) The MySpace is 'clearly' hers? Based on...? b) The article now has multiple items that show a "[1]" reference link, but there's no way to know if they point to item 1 in "Notes" or item 1 in "References"... any way to fix that? Valrith 22:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Take a look at the chain which I detailed on Talk:Taylor Rain. She has a journal entry (2nd entry down) on personal webpage which clearly gives a MySpace page address. Tabercil 23:37, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Photo ID request

Tabercil, can you ID the actress on the left in this pic? She looks familiar, but neither Anime Nut nor I can remember her name. Videmus Omnia Talk 22:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Sorry. No clue. It looks like Sophie Dee was signing for New World International at that AEE. Can you find online a list of what starlets they had signing there? Check with AVN and XBiz to see if they make mention. Also, you might want to see if you can find any other photo sets of the 2007 AEE by other people... maybe one of those might have a clue who she is. If you can't find who she is, then what you can do (if Anime Nut consents) is to crop the unknown out of the pic. Tabercil 22:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks for looking - I got 4 other pics of Sophie Dee that I uploaded on Commons - it looks as if she doesn't have an article here, but I grabbed the pics in case she becomes notable (or is notable and nobody has written an article yet). I just wanted to check on the other actress in case it was someone we already had an pictureless article on. Thanks again. Videmus Omnia Talk 22:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
      • There were some other pics of actresses without articles - look for redlinks on User:Videmus Omnia/Free Images, in the Flickr section. • Awesome! Porn stars aren't the only images I search for, but for some reason I have better luck getting responses/permission on those than for other folks (except for college professors and bloggers, they love to contribute pictures - but they also demand all kinds of work on their articles). Porn stars usually want some work done, but it's usually pretty easy stuff like removing POV or unsourced birthdates. Videmus Omnia Talk 22:48, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hayley_wickenheiser_cbc.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 08:53, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I knew it was her based on your comments during the chat about Vanessa Blue. Her actions were still unacceptable; it doesn't matter if the person acting is her or not, she is still a public figure. If she did not want people to know what she looks like, then why did she pose for Playboy?? And I've restored the gallery on Commons. I don't have admin powers on Commons so we'll just have to keep an eye open to make sure she doesn't remove it again. Tabercil 01:07, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

The Real World articles

Hi, Tabercil. Listen, I tend to keep an eye on The Real World-related articles, and one thing I notice that some people add to the External links of the various seasons' articles are links to what they claim are the MySpace pages of the cast members. Someone has done this with the current season's article, The Real World: Sydney. Now the thing is, is this appropriate? I mean, legit MS pages of the cast members seems legit, but how do we validate that the pages in question are legit? I've noticed LOTS of bogus pages on MySpace purporting to be those of celebrities, often finding multiple pages of the same celebrity. I've no reason to necessarily conclude that these ones, for example, are fake or hoaxed or non-official, but how do I validate that they're not? Is there a policy or guideline on this? Thanks. Nightscream 05:14, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

  • You're looking at this wrong; the onus is on them, not you. The verifiability policy states in part: "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material." (emphasis added) Point out to them that you can frequently find multiple pages for celebrities that purport to be that celebrity. One example I can think of offhand is Asia Carrera, who bitched on her bulletins page about a fake (said fake has since been pulled from MySpace); you've said you've found other examples. Tell the editor in question that they have to prove that the page in question uncontestably belongs to said Real World personality and is not a fake. If there's no such conclusive proof given, kill the link. If they give you crap about it, let me know. Tabercil 19:30, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Whoa, you read her bulletins page too??!! Cool! I remember that flap too! (I was SO sad for her when her husband was killed.) Anyway, thanks for the advice. I also have another problem: User:Callelinea keeps placing unsourced material in the Pedro Zamora article. If you look at the Edit Summaries in our last few edits, you'll see what it's about. I also began a discussion on that Talk Page to further elaborate my point of view, and invited Callelinea to join it. Thanks. Nightscream 05:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
That's a little stickier... and I'm going to have to largely pass for now. If you dig back into his user page history, you'll see that I had adopted him at one point. Then he got into a mess when some of the articles he created got put up to AFD and I gave him some advice on what to do - it's immediately above this section. Well, I felt he wasn't following my advice so I withdrew the adoption. I don't know how he feels towards me as a result of that so I'm not about to explicitly intrude. I will point out that he is willing to do offline research to back up a point... that was how he got the barnstar on his user page.
Now, about Pedro Zamora. I'm already somewhat aware of what's occuring as it's already on my Watch list. In one of his edit comments Callelinea mentions the Wall Street Journal as a source. When he mentioned I looked see if I could find the info on wsj.com but had no luck. What I think needs to happen is someone will have to actually do a search either through Nexis or offline in a library to dig up the ref. Mention it to him... and if he does dig up a proper reference to Pedro's birth and death date, I'll drop him a Barnstar myself <g> Tabercil 13:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I was present at that AfD, as per his request. You'll see me chiming in if you look through it. But someone has to intervene on this point, and if you can't please recommend or ask some other admin to do so. Specifically, read my last post to him on that article's Talk Page, in which I point out a very serious problem regarding his assertion about "the other" WSJ article, one that clearly does not require a Nexis search. He has not responded, but has inserted the assertion he claims is derived from that WSJ issue back into the article. Nightscream 00:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
