Non-free use disputed for Image:Howard&Bush-6Sep07.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Howard&Bush-6Sep07.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JPD (talkcontribs) 10:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-added the disputed tag to this image, for reason which I have outlined at Image talk:Howard&Bush-6Sep07.jpg. Please note in general that press agency photos and the like should only be used on Wikipedia as a last resort, as Wikipedia aims to provide as much free content as possible. Even the newspaper tag that you placed on the image when you uploaded it specifically referred only to use of the image to illustrate the publication of the contents in that newspaper, not to illustrate articles on the subject of the article/image. JPD (talk) 14:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out the issues here - I have to agree with you that this image should be deleted! See the image's talk page for my full comment. Swedish fusilier 14:43, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries - I'm glad that you've understood the guidelines. Of course, you're absolutely right that a picturee like that would be a good illustration for Australian Red Ensign if it were free! The best free image of the Red Ensign that I have found is a completely different situation, but might still be a good addition to the article. JPD (talk) 15:20, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your image does look like a good idea. Swedish fusilier 15:30, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

November 2007[edit]

In a recent edit, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Thank you. - (), 07:20, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling in NATO article[edit]

You said: "NATO uses Oxford spelling." I like to believe you, but what is the reliable source (is there a reliable source?) supporting your assertion? -- Iterator12n Talk 02:01, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied on your talk page. Swedish fusilier (talk) 04:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

December 2007[edit]

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, which wasn't included with your recent edit to RMS Titanic. Thank you. -MBK004 03:42, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed your warning to this user as you placed it after I had indefblocked the account. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 13:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I hadn't realised that you had blocked the account when I put the warning there - it hadn't loaded. Swedish fusilier (talk) 13:37, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I figured something like that must have happened. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 13:41, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hamilton, Ontario[edit]

Good morning. is there a way that we can put a lock on the Hamilton, Ontario article? We've had a lot of vandalism on it all night ever since it became the "Featured Article" of the day? Thanks.  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  11:26, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary locks can be put on pages but the extensive vandalism should stop tomorrow once it's off the main page. There's a back-up version of the featured article of the day kept somewhere too. Swedish fusilier (talk) 11:33, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
