Thank you! I've been meaning to expand/refresh/rotate the gallery, just too lazy as usual, but I found Woman Reading on Commons and added her to the top row. I love perambulating readers! (That was me at a certain age walking home from school, and when I had to take our dog for a walk, I'd be reading all the way to the first bench on the top of the hill, sit down and read while letting her run around, and read all the way back home again! regarding the AGF hat

you have to remember that this is explicit wikipedia policy. The OP actually asked about the level of racism in French culture, which is high. I found nothing trollish about the OP's questions. I share the perspective of everyone else on the thread, but I am following WP policy, assuming good faith, and not letting people start attacking a genuine poster's character. I agree with you in principle (though I admit to not being a fan of hatting in general, but your hatting was clearly not disruptive and that it was made not only in good faith but admirably was obvious to me). I don't speak Indonesian or Malay, but I checked with several dictionaries and, combined with what little I do understand, Nil Einne's translation looks spot on (moreover, I don't view him as someone who is quick to assume bad faith either).

Isn't it okay to inform editors what a querent's user name means in English, particularly when it's derogatory? I won't comment on France's racism in comparison with other countries, but don't I get to be informed that I might be spending my time researching and answering a question posted by someone with a name that is insulting by faulty generalization? ---Sluzzelin talk 01:50, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Of course it's not okay, because it has nothing to do with the question and is literally a witch hunt (2nd, extended sense). Same as if you took the time to pore through four years of posting history for the OP and found an edit that was questionable from 2010, when they were only 10 years old and not 14. I'm sorry I had to call it out as such, but literally 3-4 editors who could have been contributing and keeping this place normal and civil have instead decided they prefer to gang up on someone. I'd have given $5 to have them instead focus on more references and fact-checking, it's a subject that was really interesting to me, and this means that the failure of the reference desk to have a civility and assume good faith policy has resulted in a loss of this amount to me. it makes these editors almost literally thieves when they do this. I see three editors have given you feedback regarding how to best deal with the discrepancy. All three of these editors have a lot of experience in editing articles, including articles on medieval history, and if I'm not mistaken, all three have an academic background in history, medieval history even. I, on the other hand, suck at writing articles and do not have that background. I just like looking for things requested at the reference desk. I hope I haven't done you a disservice in this case. Thank you for those very kind words, Yngvadottir. I rarely participate at all in RFAs, and this is only the second time I've opposed, I think. One oppose vote weighs more than one support vote (because of the percentage range generally required to pass), and I just didn't feel that my vote was competent enough or my vetting was thorough enough, and I'll admit: To a certain point, I did allow myself being guilted into withdrawing my vote. I think this only happened here, where I suggested singing it to the tune of "Three Blind Mice" because it seemed to fit the context (well, the greater context of the question, the immediate lateral subcontext was sexuality in Star Trek). Cheap, ok. But, shiny? Which base metal exactly did you have in mind? Your chemistry must indeed be getting rusty! I could have sworn you did it more than once. It is true that a search yielded nothing, but then you could have thrown me off the scent (prophetically as it were) by spelling it W H A A O E (for example) a few times. But never mind. Once's enough. And that can easily be combined with a green alien scream. I take it you recommend it be sung "WHAA - O - E" (three syllables)? PS: Since we're talking "music" do you have any idea what this double time signature (2/2 3/2) means in this German tune? Never mind. Nickels can be shiny! Yes "Whaa, Oh, Eee". As for the mixed time signature (edit-conflicted), I don't think they always need to alternate, see for example this excerpt, but I really don't like this notation. Put the signature at the beginning of the new bar when the meter changes, I say.
