Hello, You voted my page on Amanda Eliasch to be deleted which was a lot of work. Yet I believe you want help on Woodcarving, it would be nice if you had supported me. Amanda has many credible articles, as does woodcarving. I think that many people should be on Wikipedia. If the art world in England can support her, then you should too. Hollywood does too, they supported her artistic work. Hope you will reconsider your opinion as I have now re sorted some of it. Just not brilliant yet as codes. So give me a chance. Redirect bypassation

Hi, I noticed that you made an edit to bypass a redirect at Pattern matching. However, WP:REDIRECT specifically forbids editing solely to avoid redirects - it introduces needsless verbiage at a net heavier load on the servers. British linkfixing

Since [[United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland|British]] wikilinks to a redirect, wouldn't it be simpler to just make your edits point to United Kingdom? Or am I missing something? --DeLarge 22:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Naw, I don't think so. There is 3 seperate phases of brits, most of them cover that (80%). There is also the British empire, which is in the second period. I think it would blur it. If you could identiy which articles relate to brits later than 1922, the modern era and wasn't antyhing to do with army, then you would get 80% of them, and the link could be put in there. i think 10% 300 or so, is 1700 stuff. If you're going to be an AFD regular from now on, I think we all would appreciate it if you would familiarize yourself better with policy documents. For instance, "hail to the speedy" is really unnecessary and misleading when articles are not eligible for an actual speedy deletion. Speedy is not for getting rid of stuff you don't like faster. Also, when making arguments about notability, try to generalize a little less and invoke policy a little more. Meat shoot speedy tag

Hi there, I've declined the speedy tag here although I absolutely agree that the article is original research. However OR is not a sufficient reason for speedying, and I suggest going through WP:PROD or WP:AFD instead. Incidentally, when tagging an article it's a good idea to warn the originating editor that you've done so. I guess you applied the tag manually? Um, just a thought, in future could you make sure that entries are not "crap", before adding articles. I suggest that making sure that a place exists is a prerequisite for starting an article. A number of users have raised concerns in the past that "non-places" are being added all too frequently. Please see this discussion at Wikiproject Scotland. Achnaluachrach is listed in a book of Scottish Place Names, from the Gaelic: achadh ("field") & luachair ("rushes"); and I've found it on a map. The second one my be a typo, as it is not in the book nor the map.Pyrotec (talk) 16:23, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

It strikes me that Achnaluachrach, Sutherland is a single farm (is it current or a ruin?) and the Glen Spean Lodge Hotel at Roybridge is at Achluachrach (map). Both of the names used in this header are mis-spelt. Neither is worthy of an article! Better to have a Roybridge article, which could mention the hotel, a hostel (Àite Cruinnichidh) and an impressive gorge on the river - I can recommend all 3. Scope creep, no probs, I didnt realise you were involved with such a herculean task, so I was maybe a bit snappy too. But I still think these borderline places need to be checked, not only as to whether they exist, but as Finavon comments, whether they merit an article in the first place. I don't know how feasible that is, (without actually going there!) but personally I would err on the side of caution. Verifiability is after all WP's most fundamental policy. Small villages

Whilst your industry is admirable I wonder if you would mind checking that the OS grid references you provide for Highland villages are accurate and that the OS map links there? A little research is a wonderful thing. Sconser is hardly "remote" in the context of the west Highlands. As you later note, it is on the main road. Category:Villages in Highland is very large and needs attention. This is why Skye villages are placed in Category:Skye Villages. If you are going to cut and paste text for numerous articles on these tiny places, you might at least save others the trouble of having to change this every time. Please also note that "Isle of Skye" is a redirect, this being a colloquial expression. The islands name is Skye. Thank-you. Ben MacDui 07:22, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

The Food Channel

This may well fail WP:WEB but the standard for speedy deletion is stricter than that. Specifically "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion." The criteria also specifically state that this "is a lower standard than notability". In general this is taken to mean that if there are suggestions that it could meet notablity requirements then it shouldn't be speedied. The two sources indicate why it may be notable. Additionally the article also mentions a newsletter which was published regularly for a long time which also indicates to me it may be notable. Finally it's been around for a while with some pretty regular editors have edited it, and has been the subject of discussion at WP:RfD so if it were an obvious speedy I'm sure someone else would've tagged it. Yes I accept this is a border line case but all-in-all, for the little extra effort involved, I think this is worth taking to WP:PROD or WP:AfD. Dpmuk (talk) 10:13, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

The article T2 SDE was put up for AfD, and then deleted. I don't understand the rationale for deletion. The article is referenced in 12 wikipedia articles, and now they all have red-ink links. Component analysis (research)

I just wanted to let you know that I declined your A1 speedy deletion nomination of Component analysis (research). In the criterion's definition, it clearly points out that it is only meant to be used for very short articles, which I do not believe this falls under. Hi Slon. I'm still going to have to nominate this for deletion, although I don't really want to, because I'm an illusionist by nature and it looks as interesting subject. I've looked at this article for some time, and still can't make of it sense. For instance what does changing behavior in relation to what. Also you have defined the article in negation to something else, which is never a good idea. Also the article sources only point to a single source. Speedy Deletion Ewan Kirk and Colm O'Shea

Thank you for nominating my two articles for speedy deletion. I will be contesting both. Both Colm O'Shea and Ewan Kirk are important british business men and manage amongst the largest hedge funds in the world. If you believe that neither of these are important, then you should also mark for speedy deletion the 100's of other important hedge fund managers listed on wikipedia. There is nothing promotional about the pieces that I have written. As you can see from my above links the American Fund managers are better represented on Wikipedia than the British ones, and for no good reason. It is neither productive nor helpful you deleting these pieces. If you feel they are badly written or promotional please feel free to edit them. I based the writing style on other Wikipedia profiles of famous hedge fund managers, and I can not see how my pieces are any different than the existing pieces that you have maybe just not gotten around to deleting. I was referring to this edit, in which you initiated a new AFD discussion about the article by adding it to the bottom of the first, already closed discussion instead of by starting a new page. I speedied the article afterward because it qualified for speedy as a recreation of deleted content, so you don't need to do anything now — but I just needed to let you know that if you come across a similar situation in the future, you need to create a new AFD discussion by adding "(2nd nomination)" to the page's title, rather than appending your renomination to the first one. The article did exist at the time all of this happened; it doesn't exist now because I speedied it afterward. All I know is that it's your name on the diff, your signature on the new comment, and your name on the edit that added the AFD template to the article — I don't know how Page Curation works when it comes to AFD nominations, so maybe it made a technical error and accidentally appended your deletion rationale to the first nomination instead of creating a new one, but it all happened under your name. The .... means a date, we don't know when he died, its known that he died in the first years of Niqmi-Epuh of Yamhad reign, Niqmi-Epuh reigned C. 1700 BC – c. 1675 BC , so Yarim-Lim would die any time between 1700 and 1690 BC. Speedy deletion criteria

Hi Scope creep,

You're still tagging articles for speedy deletion which really aren't speedy deletion candidates. For example, although an article about Helen Santos, a character in a TV series might not be notable enough to keep, and I'd probably !vote delete in an article deletion discussion, it's certainly not a speedy deletion candidate.

Speedy deletion is for cases where there is absolutely no doubt that the article must go ASAP, for example:

• Articles that don't make any sense (Nonsense, no context, etc.)
• Articles that are obviously misleading (Really obvious hoaxes, joke pages, etc.)
• Articles that are plainly, obviously not notable (Completely unremarkable people or things)
• Articles that break our rules (attack pages, copyright violations, blatant advertising, etc.)

Proposed deletion is for articles that clearly shouldn't be on Wikipedia, but don't meet the strict CSD standard, for example:

• Unreferenced biographies of living people
• Unverifiable articles (more subtle hoaxes, crackpot theories, etc.)
• Non-notable subjects: after looking for sources, it's clear there are none and never will be.

Something like the Helen Santos article probably reaches the level where we should go for WP:AfD instead, because there are reasonable Wikipedians who would strongly argue to keep it, no matter how strongly you or I might feel that it's pointless WP:Cruft. --Slashme (talk) 17:50, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Youre too fast for me! Most of these you are referring to are stubs, which now give people a place and a opportunity to participate. Some of my older stubs have matured and numerous people have contributed, so please be patient. The problem with this kind of military history is that a lot of it is however oral in nature. How do you address that? Another issue is that the vast amount of archived military history pre 1994 was on paper and the current government has not made much effort in keeping it maintained. These documents were however handed over to the National Military Museum in Saxonwold Johannesburg, so that is a big plus. It will very interesting to understanding how these documents can be used for in line citations.

Why did I write that he is noted as a teacher: I discovered him while writing an article about Lindsay Sloper, who was taught by him; he also taught Ferdinand Hiller and Aloys Schmitt, who were well known in their day – so it was worth mentioning in the summary that he was a noted teacher. While working on the article I was surprised to find that he worked in London for a period, managing a branch of a printing company, so it was an interesting article to write. So, I am somewhat puzzled that you reverted my reference – even if the tag I used ("Bauer-2000-DSM-426") was incorrect (the reference itself correctly was to the 2002 edition and the tag (and only the tag) should have read better "Bauer-2002-DSM-426".)

Your comment says "Replaced older quote with younger" and refers to an English Third edition of 2000. My reference was exactly to the English THIRD edition of 2002.

Other than that, in Bauer-2000-DSM (english 2nd ed.), Tranow is mentioned on pages 425, 426 and 427, but not on page 449.

Also, in Bauer-2002-DSM (english 3rd ed.), Tranow is mentioned on pages 425, 426 and 427, but not on page 449.

So, I still believe that my reference (and the quote) is correct (until we come up with a better one).

New Page Patrol

Hi. Due to the very poor standard of New Page Patrolling, the community decided through two very widely publicised RfC to introduce a new user right for reviewing new pages and marking them as patrolled. All users who had been active during the qualifying period in 2016 were accorded the right without needing to apply for it (this was in fact only a low number), and some 1,400 others known to have been reasonably active were personally sent a message suggesting that they may wish to apply for the right through a process that only takes a few seconds. If you would like to familiarise yourself with WP:NPR and apply for the right, if your patrolling history is without serious issues, an admin will accord you the right. We now have 809 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.

Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. Just as an FYI I have removed the BLP PROD tag that you placed on this article. BLP PROD requires that there be no sources of any form in the article in any form, and the article did have links to multiple sites at the time you tagged it. Vanimo culture

You emailed me that the article on Vanimo culture had been earmarked for deletion. Vanimo is an important town in West Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea, and the language is important in that province, as it straddles the West Papuan border. An encyclopedia like Wikipedia needs to include entries on different ethnic groups around the world. Can you please indicate the grounds you have for deletion. John D. Márta Lacza

Thank you for trying to withdraw your AfD on Márta Lacza. It seems you may have missed out a stage, because a passing bot has just put the AfD back onto the article! It seems that to withdraw your own AfD you have to go through the steps on WP:CLOSEAFD (a Google search led me to that page). Like you, I think the AfD has accomplished its purpose, as it prompted me to do some work on the article. There is a load more material about her in contemporaneous Hungarian newspapers, but I think there is sufficient in the article now for it to warrant a place in Wikipedia. Daniel Reifsnyder Deletion Proposal

The article does link directly to IMDB as well as Playbill - I edited the Playbill link to go directly to the performer's profile instead of the playbill/castlist (which it did originally - since he was not in the top four or five cast members and viewers had to scroll down, this may have caused some confusion). You should now find this appropriately sourced. I appreciate your insight into making the article better and would appreciate you removing your deletion proposal.

Furio De Monaco

Hi Scope. I don't often participate in sports-related AfDs, hence my question to you on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Furio De Monaco. The discussion was improperly NAC'ed as a Keep. That, it is not as we are still within the 168 hours window, and a Speedy Keep would in my mind have been wrong as well, as you did not indicate the nomination was withdrawn, we were still discussing subject's merits. I think you may have got mixed up between Wim de Waele who is a professor at Dept. of Mechanical Construction and Production at the Soete Laboratory at Ghent University since 2003 see his Bio here and the subject of this article who is an economist and did his masters degree at Ghent University see his linkedin profile here. From what I can see all the subjects on Google Scholar concern the first Wim de Waele and not the second. A HUGE backlog

We now have 809 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

I've already included their discography, their origins and achievements. I don't understand why it was deleted. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
