Deletion of MyStrands page

Hi,

I work for MyStrands, and I was going to update our entry, but I saw that it was deleted. Can you tell me why? I looked over the deletion page under your changes and found nothing.

Thanks, Dan

  • It looks like the key problem is it cited no independent sources showing the notability of the site. See WP:CORP. If you think you can rewrite the article to show this, I will make the content available to you. --W.marsh 23:03, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you - I will read that and rewrite, then run it by you. Darkbass98 23:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I can cite the following: http://www.msearchgroove.com/2007/06/19/mystrands-gets-funding-is-recommendation-ready-for-primetime/ http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/mystrands_revamp.php http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/sep2006/tc20060911_735858.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index_technology http://pushingthebarrier.typepad.com/pushing_the_barrier/2007/03/mystrands_socia.html http://news.mobile9.com/s60apps/2007/02/01/social-player-by-mystrands/

These are blogs, traditional press, and analysts. Darkbass98 16:35, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Well it loosk like I start... I'll move it to your userspace so you can work on the article, citing those sources should be the priority. If moved back before fixed, it could be deleted again. User:Darkbass98/MyStrands is where it is now. --W.marsh 18:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you - I'll work on it and let you know when I'm finished so you can potentially approve it. Darkbass98 20:06, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

I've edited the page in my workspace. Can you please have a look and let me know if it's adequate to post now? Darkbass98 20:45, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, it would be best if the article was rewritten such that all of its contents were from published sources, rather than your own personal knowledge of the topic (if any). Stuff like "develops technologies to better understand people's taste and help them discover things they like and didn't know about" would probably be considered spam language. The article's goal should be just to inform, not to promote. You can see an essay I wrote on the topic at User:W.marsh/Blatant advertising, which explains it as well as I can. At any rate, you can move this back to the article namespace if you want, using the "move" tab at the top of your screen, it should be rewritten enough to forestall speedy deletion. --W.marsh 21:28, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Ahh, gotcha. I will re-work it before moving it. Thanks for taking the time to go through it with me. I'm not in our marketing department, so I don't necessarily know all the buzz words. I will neutralize the promotion and advertising portions to make them more informative. Darkbass98 21:33, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

  • The more objective facts you can put in, the better (as long as it's sourced). E.g. number of employees, headquarters, awards won, what was said in reviews, etc. It's not easy but it can be done. --W.marsh 21:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Crud - I was looking at the code for Last.fm for some inspiration, and I mistakenly deleted their Infobox section (believe me, I've already lectured myself) when I thought I was working on MyStrands. How can I undo such an action? I've tried to find a way to back out, but I can't seem to locate one.

Outcome of AFD for Horror Incorporated article

This is in reference to an old article deletion vote/horror in corporated.

Here is a link to the AFD page: http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Horror_Incorporated

I was curious as to why it was deleted, it looked like it was a tie vote to me? Could you please explain this? Thanks a lot!!!WacoJacko 07:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Published sources were needed... articles, books, journals, magazines, etc. --W.marsh 14:43, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Richard has recreated the article, and apparently decided that he doesn't need to cite anything but the company's web page as a source. He's now Wikilawyering when I tried to point out that their site is not a reliable source. -- Kesh 05:34, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Well it still falls under WP:CSD#A7. Could you please point out that I've re-deleted it in the DRV? Otherwise I will make a note there eventually. --W.marsh 13:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Butseriouslyfolks

Hey. I noticed you were planning to nominate him for adminship a little while back. He has just accepted my nom, so if you want to co-nom him at this time over here, then that would be great. If you do, let him know so that he can answer the questions an put it up. If not, just let me know and we'll continue. Wizardman 22:46, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I was meaning to follow up with him... I won't co-nom but I'll certainly support as soon as it goes on the page. Thanks for the note. --W.marsh 22:58, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Vibration-powered generator

The {{inuse}} note is intended to keep hackers out of an article until it has been completed. Ther is no copyright violation - if you compare the text (with which I am still busy)m,you may be able to see that. I think you're overzealous with your rapid deletion!! Paul venter 17:06, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Entire chunks of the article were copied from the source I indicated, for example "According to Dr Beeby, over the years, there has been a growing interest in the field of low power miniature sensors and wireless sensor networks" is right from [1]. --W.marsh 17:18, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
You obviously don't write many articles. One starts with a source and then modifies it drastically - in the beginning (the stage at which you interfered, blatantly disregarding the note requesting you not to) there will be identical chunks, but at the finish (if you will permit me to get there) there will be very little that is identical. So please hold your horses and try sitting on your hands!!Paul venter 17:29, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
No, that is not how one writes an article. Do not do that! It's a copyright violation and can cause Wikipedia lots of embarrassment. See Wikipedia:Copyright. Articles need to be written in your own words or using words from an acknowledged public domain or a GFDL source. There are no exceptions to this. --W.marsh 17:30, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Don't dare tell me how to write articles - that article was a "work in progress" and you had no right to delete it!! By what authority do you ignore the "inuse" tag? Paul venter 17:35, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
The only way to fix a copyvio is to rewrite from scratch, besides the inuse tag is non-binding anyway. At any rate this has been reported at AN/I now. --W.marsh 17:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

help requested

It looks like the user has already attracted attention from others, but I'll take a look through his contribs and see if anything strikes me as inappropriate. I've checked a few and they're coming up clean, so far. -- But|seriously|folks  18:17, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

The user's image uploads are almost all problematic. I feel bad piling on warning after warning, but he clearly does not understand WP's nonfree image use policies, and these images cannot be used the way he wants to use them. Ugh. -- But|seriously|folks  03:10, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
He's been blocked for 24h... and hasn't contested it. I'm taking that as a sign that he's realized he's not in the right here. --W.marsh 03:12, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Lost the info

just to let you know.. I placed the tag again because I was working on the article.. IF I PLACE THE TAG WHY DID YOU REVERTED???? I had been working for 10 minutes and thanks to your edit all my work was lost[3]. very disrespectful of your part.. please move on and stop the bugging --F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 16:39, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

  • You can just click the back button if you get an edit conflict and get your work back... you cant just lock people out from editting an article for days. You hadn't edited the article for 10 hours when I removed the tag. --W.marsh 16:45, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I am not claiming the article.. I am trying to ADD to the article you are being really disrespectful--F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 17:06, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

  • So just add content to the article... you aren't going to get edit conflicts. Using {{inuse}} for days at a time is rude and implies you think you own the article. --W.marsh 17:07, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

read the template :: can you read it?

This article or section is actively undergoing a major edit for a short while. As a courtesy, please do not edit this page while this message is displayed. The user who added this notice will be listed in the page history. If this page has not been edited for several hours, please remove this template, or replace it with {{underconstruction}}. This message is intended to help reduce edit conflicts; please remove it between editing sessions to allow others to edit the page.--F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 17:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Read the documentation at {{inuse}}... "Please do not leave it in place for more than the few hours at most that should be necessary, as doing so may unnecessarily discourage others from contributing to the article. If it has been up for more than two hours since the last edit, it should be removed." --W.marsh 17:12, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
DO YOU UNDERSTAND? read the template!! why are you editing? while I am editing? It has been less than three hours.. and don't move the warnings!--F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 17:16, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
The first time I removed it you hadn't editted for 10 hours. Then you undid my edit with no explanation, which is considered rude. you were just adding the template to revert me and making no indication that you intended to edit the article. none of this is needed... just edit the article without the drama. There's no need to plant your flag on the article for days to make edits to it. --W.marsh 17:17, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

What drama.. be respectful to other editors.. pay attention to your edits!

  1. Did I complain about you placing the template the first time? no. I simply reverted to start working on the article again.
  2. Apparently you did not read my very first message... I was editing the article after only 10 minutes when YOU EDITED the article to remove the tag.. there was an edit conflict and lost all the information I had been working on.. then left the article for ten hours!!! is that clear enough or do you want me to write it again?
  1. then you did it a second time... again making another edit conflict.. this time I had copypasted and was just starting to add the info again.
  1. Rude to revert a simple tag? don't think so! talking about drama.. the revert link is there for a reason.. and I use it for convenience..
  1. I am not planting any flags!! where or when have I said this is "my article" or no one else can't edit it? you are wrong and not assuming a responsible position. Next time simply be more careful

have a happy edit.--F3rn4nd0 (Roger - Out) 20:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, I keep the deleted article on my watchlist but I wouldn't have noticed a DRV. --Golbez 00:05, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

About your closing of the DRV for Template: User Socialist

Hello, I'd like to understand the reasoning behind the early closing of the Template:User Socialist DRV. It seems fairly obvious to me that the claimed CSD criterion (T1 - inflammatory or divisive) doesn't apply and there should be a proper discussion on this point. Can you tell me what I'm missing?--Ramdrake 00:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Tony Sidaway closed it, he just didn't use the correct closing procedure. Had this been a deleted userspace userbox I probably would have challenged the close, but it has apparently already been migrated and was deleted just from the template namespace. So I didn't want to challenge the close. You can, or you can talk to Sidaway, or the deleting admin. But I don't consider myself to actually have closed the DRV. --W.marsh 00:44, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. In which case, can you point me to where I can find the current User Socialist userbox, or to someone who would know? Thank you for your help!--Ramdrake 00:46, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
There seem to be several in Category:Political user templates. --W.marsh 00:51, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for all your help. :)--Ramdrake 01:07, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

User keeps removing talk

User:Apathy78 keeps removing discussion from Talk:Beech Fork River, apparently because he is finished with it. Of course, this goes against how talk is supposed to work. Is there something that can be done about this? thanks. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 14:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I restored it and left a note... I'm going to be away for a few hours so maybe just let him cool it if he keeps edit warring, I'll check back in later. --W.marsh 14:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
    • He deleted the article talk again, and he also deleted yours and my posts to his talk page. I've rarely run into somebody as obstinate about breaking rules as this. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
      • Looks more or less resolved, right? He can do what he wants with his user talk page, but the article talk page seems restored. --W.marsh 21:23, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  • User:Apathy78 has done it again - he did an unusual early archive of Talk:Beech Fork River he apparently doesn't want others to see. This user needs to be reminded again that what he's doing is incorrect. Ultimately, I don't care about his user talk, but discussion on the article talk page needs to stay until archiving is called for. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 14:48, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Well I deleted his little archive attempt... this is so trivial but if he continues edit warring I will block him. --W.marsh 15:56, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Please take another look at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 July 5

Hi,

I've redone the Goetz school article on my user pages and made some other comments at the bottom of the deletion-review discussion. I'm asking editors to comment on the changes I've made because they represent a new development, one I think we can form a pretty wide consensus around. I think the article as I've redone it meets the objections of many editors, and it certainly meets WP:V. Please take a look, but I think this deletion review will close today or early tomorrow, so please don't delay, act now and take advantage of this limited-time offer! Pedestrian Courts

By chance today I happen to see a post you made about pedestrian courts in Louisville, and you cited a list by Yater. You asked if anyone knew of any not listed there, and I am aware of one more: Lawton Court off Preston Street (near Hill St)

Here is a terra server shot of it: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=4&s=8&Lon=-85.75069594&Lat=38.22512637&Alon=-85.75069594&Alat=38.22512637&w=1&opt=0&addr=Lawton+Ct%2c+Louisville%2c+KY+40217&qs=lawton+court%7clouisville%7cky%7c

Too quick!

I added a page on the Climate Institute of Australia which had full copyright approval (contact slaris@climateinstitute.org.au), but before I could add that to the talk.... it was gone.

Should I add it again, it's only a simple profile at this stage.

  • Really, stuff from some organization about itself is almost never appropriate for Wikipedia, it tends to fall under our no advertising rule. It's best to write articles in your own words just for Wikipedia. --W.marsh 04:13, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

It's best to leave things for, say, a minute or two before deleting. Pretty strong discouragement to add articles. [Look at the speed!]

Within seconds you arbitrarily deleted the article of one of Australia's most important Climate think-tanks. And now to find the links to all the board members again...

  • Well it was a copy and paste from their website so it's not like the content will be hard to find... --W.marsh 04:19, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Finding links to all the board members took a long time.

Thank you for your support in adding my first article. You're what makes the Wikipedia community what it is.

My RfA

Many thanks for your support at my RfA, which recently closed as a success, and more importantly for your confidence in me and support as I learned the ropes here. I will do my best to show that your confidence was not misplaced! -- But|seriously|folks  23:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

  • No problem. I was surprised your RFA was as close as it was... I hope you realize you do have the confidence of the community, most of the people who opposed really just hadn't seen you in action and made an assumption that I think was incorrect. It's just one of the quirks of RFA. --W.marsh 23:45, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

18:33, 12 July 2007 W.marsh (Talk | contribs) deleted "Rural Development Institute" (Deleting page - reason was: "Blatant advertising, WP:CSD#G11" using NPWatcher)

I am confused as to why the page (titled above) was so quickly deleted as "balant advertising? The Rural Development Institute is a non-profit academic research centre. The intention of this contribution is by no means a mechanism for advertising. Rather, the contribution was an attempt to highlight the many contributions the Rural Development Institute has made in rural and northern communities throughout western and northern Canada. The contribution of this page follows similar contributions already in wikipedia, such as the Bellairs Research Institute (http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Bellairs_Research_Institute) and National Institute for Nanotechnology (http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=National_Institute_for_Nanotechnology). Why would this contribution be treated any different?

  • The article included phrases like "Our Mandate". Why would anything say that if it wasn't promotional? Tndeed, the whole thing seems to be a copy of promotional material, possibly from [6] here. Wikipedia articles need to be written in your own words, in a neutral tone, and based on published sources. If other articles don't meet that standard, feel free to nominate them for deletion. --W.marsh 19:05, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

jet city

Hi, you flagged my entry for Jet City Improv as needing sources cited, but I'm a little confused. I'm trying to follow the format for the verified wikipedia entry for Unexpected Productions, another local improv company, and they don't have any sources cited. Can you help? I want to play by the rules here.  :)

  • Well, it should. All articles on WP should be based on published sources. See WP:CITE for how to cite sources. --W.marsh 19:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

It Was I

Who asked him to create a DRV for Loserz. My apologies if that made a bit of a mess. I do agree with what you said on that page, however it just seemed that they were not going to listen to just the reasons of individual editors and that this would be a simpler way to solve it. My apologies if it's the exact opposite. -WarthogDemon 04:06, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Who knows, it's seems it's just giving him more people to contradict... but I realize people who appear on one's talk page with requests and won't take no for an answer can be rough to deal with though. --W.marsh 04:08, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

asian options?

why did u delete my definition of asian options? these refer to a particular finance product

  • They were just a copy and paste from some other website. Wikipedia articles need to be written in your own words. --W.marsh 14:35, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I am somewhat surprised that you consider this article to be wikied. To my eyes it still looks a long way short of complying with Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Any comments ?

Derek R Bullamore

  • The wikify tag is just to point out the need for basic formatting and wikilinking, generally it's applied to almost totally unformatted articles and removed when the basics have been addressed. Of course most articles still have a way to go to fully comply with the MOS, just leaving the tag on perpetually is not useful when what is needed are relatively complicated tweaks. Feel free to make those improvements but I don't think the wikify tag will speed up the process much. --W.marsh 19:18, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

"We are Church"

Hi, I'm trying to start an article for We are Church, a European Catholic lay group that has been around for 10 years and is considered pretty important. I dont have enough info to do the whole article, but wanted to start it in hopes someone else will fill it out. How can I do this and not get immediately deleted? Thanks for your help.

  • Well, you copy and pasted information from an official webpage, this violates our copyright policy but also official material rarely makes good encyclopedia articles. Write about the church in your own words, but use information from published, independent sources... this is how we write articles here. No one will mess with it if you start it in your user space, for example at User:Mgradel/We are Church (just click that link to start). When it is ready you can move it back to the article space (or I will do it for you). --W.marsh 00:18, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

We Are Church

Your tone is certainly a little off putting, nevertheless, thanks for the guidance. Actually, I read the guidelines carefully and understood that it was ok to copy a sentence or two. In this case simply the mission statement of the group in question, which is not at all the same as an advertisement, nor is it copyright infringement. I'll wait until I have a more fully developed article and try again.

  • What guideline told you it was okay to copy a line or two? I'm just curious. --W.marsh 00:30, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, looked but cant find where I read that, so perhaps I was mistaken. It would certainly seem that quoting (with attribution) one sentence that describes what the group is would be fair use. As you might have noticed, before you speedily deleted my entry, another administrator had raised a question about the subject's "notability." I was still trying to respond to that question when you deleted my work. Nevertheless, I'm happy to learn the rules of the game, and especially appreciate the recommendation that all assume good faith and try to engage one another in conversation. --Mgradel 13:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Creating new articles is hard for new users, especially when they're involved with what they're writing about somehow or other. Assert importance, writing in your own words, cite reliable sources... if you can do all of that you should be okay. --W.marsh 13:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Now.... um.... Which article is it? I'd like to read it. Trusilver 21:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Heh, thanks. The one I was referring to is Shotgun house. I wasn't trying to toot my own horn, it was just the first example I thought of barnstars not always correlating to how much work was actually done. --W.marsh 21:51, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
  • No, No, I understand completely. It's the work I do that takes me days of staring at my monitor until I can't focus my eyes anymore that goes completely unnoticed by anyone. Then I will revert vandalism on a page a few times and two people will send me messages filled with adulation and praise. Go figure. Trusilver 21:54, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Festival of Plagiarism

It would be appreciated if you could make the material deleted from this page available for me to develop the page on User:Harrypotter/Festival of Plagiarism. Thanks.Harrypotter 13:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Done. It's at the page in your userspace now. --W.marsh 13:33, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Fairly offended

I'm sorry? Do I have a track record of spoiling stuff for people? Do I often edit the main page with ill intent? Because if that was the case, I can understand such accusations... However, that was not the case, I have a keen interest in the subject, and would not have put it there if I didn't feel it was significant (it is fairly significant, more of a singular feat than winning some tennis tournament, but that is neither here nor there apparently). I would appreciate a clarification or a retraction. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 21:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

A recognition

Nice work. Spike Wilbury talk 22:25, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Pat Farenga

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Pat Farenga, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Well thanks, but all I did was categorize the article, not sure why I got the PROD notice. Feel free to add this stuff to the article and remove the PROD if you want. --W.marsh 22:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm working on a school project right now. D: Though i'll be done in about an hour or so. I'll do it then. Glad to help :) Silver seren 22:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Is this enough to keep it safe from deletion for a while, until I can find the time to edit it? I'll have to reword the paragraph later.Silver seren 00:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it is. --W.marsh 00:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, good.Silver seren 00:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Can you tell me what you think of it now? I tried my best not to not copy anything, but the names of the magazines and books and such were unavoidable.Silver seren 00:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
That's okay, copying proper nouns is fine. It looks alright, there's room for improvement but nothing glaring. --W.marsh 00:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Anab Whitehouse entry

The entry about Anab Whitehouse should not be deleted. All the information is factual and can be verified by a Google search. I will work on editing it as time permits. It may have to wait until this weekend.

Thank you for calling the problems to my attention. I'm still learning.

Bilquees

  • You have at least until tomorrow to add some sources and remove the tag. I suggest you move the page to your user space (or tell me and I'll do that if you don't know how), then you can remove the tag and have unlimited time to work on the article, then move it back to the article space when it's ready. --W.marsh 13:54, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Can I assume that this was deleted? COnsidering its not there and all, I shall. Darn, I was planning on making something of this, though I suppose I still can. Is Anab Whitehouse this Dr. Bill guy (search yahoo) or is it something else?Silver seren 22:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I really have no idea who Anab Whitehouse is, I just came across the article working on a cleanup backlog. --W.marsh 22:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Hmm...so I suppose I can make it on this Dr guy and if its something else, then there will just be a disambiguation page. Its too bad I can't ask this Bilquees guy, but he doesn't seem to have a user page.Silver seren 22:57, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Two recent PRODdings

You PRODded two articles I added as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Backlog Drive, Scott Xavier and Cornelius Showell.

To prevent things like this from happening again, I invite you to join the project, spot articles that aren't clear-cut losers or clear-cut winners, and mark them "rejected." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 05:17, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Update: I removed the PROD tag from both articles. I recommended Cornelius Showell for a merge. Both articles are very weak and need improvement. See comments on their talk pages. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:38, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
I disagree with your claim that Scott Xavier was an obvious blatant ad worthy of speedy deletion or even proposed deletion. If I did think it was spam, I never would have copied it over from the Articles for Creation backlog page. While it had some elements of a press release, I felt it met the criteria for inclusion. While we may disagree, the fact that two reasonable editors disagree is grounds enough to carry it through to AfD. I'm not going to request an deletion review: given the marginal quality of the original article, it's just easier to start over. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:23, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
The summary redirect of Cornelius Showell to Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ was uncalled for. I had already opened a merge discussion. Furthermore, you failed to clean up the merge-from link on the Bible Way page. I've done that for you. There are times to be WP:BOLD and times to discuss. This was a time to discuss.
I'm not going to revert your changes. There is no need since the merge can happen without it using the history. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:33, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

So which article is the obscure FA? I'll give you a barnstar for it or do you just prefer a "good job"? Whispering 18:25, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Ken Madema

Are you so disinterested in American contemporary culture to neglect any article about Ken Medema? What a shame for Wikipedia!

Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans Hillclimb

The post that you deleted (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bob_Cook_Memorial_Mt._Evans_Hillclimb&action=edit) was copied from the race website with the permission of the race director, Beth Wrenn-Estes. If you would like to confirm this, you are free to e-mail her. I realize that I should have stated that in the post, and plan to re-post the text with appropriate citation.

  • Well even still it may meet our deletion criteria, just a fair warning. Materials written by some organization tend to exist to promote it, and we have a rule about deleting anything that just exists for promotional purposes. See WP:CSD. --W.marsh 17:17, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Did you read the post?

In response to your reply to my previous message regarding this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bob_Cook_Memorial_Mt._Evans_Hillclimb&action=edit), it seems as though you did not even read the text before deleting it. The article is not a promotional entry; it provides some of the history of the race and the rider for whom it was named.

  • Did you read what I wrote? Notice the word tend. I didn't say it's always the case. --W.marsh 17:42, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

County Courthouses

Would you want a picture of the new Christian County courthouse or the old courthouse, as both are used for various activities? Also, I can get you a picture of the Adair county courthouse around the second or third week of August, if it is still needed. Possibly Todd County as well. Annie Catron 18:46, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Hmmm I'm not sure. I think there's just one official courthouse in a county, but there are often newer/larger "Judicial buildings", courthouse annexes, Hall of Justice and so in larger counties. Although there may still be an "Old Courthouse" building standing. So I'd make sure that both buildings are actually called courthouses. I would think the building shown here [8] is the one to get a free picture of. But as long as both actually were courthouses at one point, I'd think we'd want pictures of them both. As for other counties, if there's not a picture yet on the list, we still need a picture. Any contributions are very welcome. --W.marsh 19:24, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure that is now known as the Annex and the new Courthouse is pictured (http://www.city-data.com/picfilesv/picv15254.php%7Chere), but I could have them backwards. I do know that all the court proceeding, with the exception of Fiscal Court, are held in the new building. Annie Catron 19:59, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I guess it gets confusing in bigger counties. The official courthouse isn't necessarily where court is held, as strange as that sounds. It's more of a historic designation. The Jefferson County Courthouse is just record rooms and offices, oddly enough. Almost every official Courthouse will have a standard historic marker in front proclaiming it as such, if that helps. --W.marsh 20:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I an note entirely clear on the process that was followed on this article. I gather it was speedy deleted and then restored. I don't think it is appropriate for Speedy Delete, but I have also added some comments at Talk:William_Bain suggesting that it does not meet the Professor test. I would be grateful for you comments if you have a moment to look at it. --KenWalker | Talk 06:27, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

  • It was deleted by WP:PROD, which states that an article can be undeleted if anyone objects at any point, so I was just following through, I didn't personally object to the proposed deletion. If you still think it should be deleted, you will need to nominate it through WP:AFD. Professor notability is kind of dicey, but I can tell you that articles like this are usually deleted. Some people will probably be persuaded to vote keep by any kind of a lengthy publication list... but this professor doesn't seem to have gotten much third-party coverage, which is ultimately our criteria for inclusion. --W.marsh 13:03, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you removed the {{di-no fair use rationale}} template I added to Image:Freedomt.jpg. Do you consider the summary, "Needed to show accurate depiction of Freedom Tower", a fair use rationale? And if so, does it meet the criteria in WP:FURG? Chupper 02:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

  • If there's a problem, why don't you fix it? I'm not here for 20 questions. --W.marsh 03:25, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't just ask questions to waste time. Check it out - if you would have said "Yes, that statement does meet the criteria for a fair use rationale" I would have known, in the future, that simple one worded statements like this are OK to use. If you would have said, "Oops, no, it does not", then I would have fixed it sometime between now and those 7 days, assuming the uploader didn't put in his or her own rationale. I often seek admins' advice to determine "standards" like these - sorry I wasted your time. Chupper 18:39, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't think what I consider acceptable really resembles the obstacle course laid out by WP:FURG, so my answers wouldn't be useful. --W.marsh 18:47, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't really understand the nomination process involved here, but considering the attention, I've gone back and done an exquisite copyedit; the article can be improved. This article was created mainly out of my ongoing massive expansion/restructuring of the article, Driftless Area. There are a lot of such incidental articles (see cat "Driftless Area", which has been populated mostly by me). Eventually, Driftless Area should be worthy of consideration for being a featured article, but this requires the collaboration people deep into geology and glaciology, and any attention I can get would be appreciated.--Ace Telephone 17:03, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

"Little Fighter 2" should be kept

I am the author of Little Fighter 2. And I think the Wikipedia page of Little Fighter should be kept.

Little Fighter 2 is still very popular. Below are the evidences:

The search volume of "Little Fighter" in google is comparable to another popular game "King of Fighters". http://www.google.com/trends?q=little+fighter%2C+king+of+fighters&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

If "Little Fighter" is not popular enough, then the page of King of Fighters should be deleted as well. :P http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=King_of_fighters

Also, "Little Fighter" has been downloaded for more than 4 millions times in download.com. It is still in the top 5 weekly games in download.com. http://www.download.com/3101-2012-0-1.html?tag=pop.games

Deletion of Stephen King's inspiration

Hello.

I just discovered that an article I had considerable contribution to has been deleted. With the considerable time that I put into the article, I'm personally upset, but even more so respectfully confused at the decision. In the official discussion there were 5 votes to delete, 5 votes to merge and 3 votes to keep. How did this article get deleted? There was no consensus to delete. By consensus it should have been merged or kept intact (as the votes in favor outweigh the delete votes). I also can't believe in the discussions that no one went into the history for this article to see the major contributors. In my opinion this article is exactly the reason Wikipedia exists - to find resources such as this that do not exist elsewhere. This specific compilation of information is culturally significant and should be compiled, not disseminated into the individual articles. It would have been less of an issue had the merge work actually been done, but it has not. Is there a way to recover the article so that the merging CAN happen? I spent two weeks in intensive research (all fully cited) working on this article and would really like to see that legitimate work reside here on Wikipedia. The deletion archive is at View AfD - original article was Stephen King's inspiration. Please advise. All the best, LACameraman 20:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

  • As I said in the closing summary, if anyone wants to do the merge, I will make the content available to them. --W.marsh 21:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I would appreciate that and I'd be happy to do the heavy-lifting there. I don't know the procedure for that, is it sent through e-mail, or an archived Wiki link? I am still confused, however, how the article can be deleted without a consensus. Could you explain that a bit to me? As far as I understand from official policy WP:DEL, a deletion discussion like this requires consensus and, to my understanding, none was reached - or rather the majority was in favor of keep or merge not deletion, yet the article was deleted anyway. All the best LACameraman 00:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Well here it is: User:LACameraman/Stephen King's inspiration. --W.marsh 13:51, 21 July 2007 (UTC
    • Thank you for that, W. I assume that link will be active for a period of time in which I can merge the legitimately researched portions of the article into the main articles, correct? I appreciate you making the article available, but you still have not answered my question. Why was the article deleted? All the best LACameraman 21:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
      • My deletion summary explained why it was deleted. --W.marsh 22:16, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
      • With due respect, it does not. Or, if it does, it potentially points to a deletion for improper reasons; an opinion. In your summary: "The result was delete. BlastOButter42 says it best, this stuff belongs on the individual book articles... compiling all of these into a single article is odd and not really needed[Emphasis added]..." By Wikipedia's own official policy (WP:DEL) this is not a viable reason for deletion and in this AfD discussion a consensus must be reached. By Wikipedia's official definition of consensus, the debate on this article does not meet that definition. If that is indeed the reason for deletion, it did not properly follow process (as far as I understand). I request that you review that debate and reconsider the deletion. All the best, LACameraman 22:53, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
        • AFD is note a vote, a group of people in one place doesn't override project-wide consensus, which is against an article like this as far as I know. You can take it to WP:DRV if you want. --W.marsh 22:55, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
        • Now that's an interesting argument - and quite possibly correct, although I'm not sure - it would be a good point for further discussion. However, as you reiterated, that was not the reason for deletion. I do have to disagree, also, that although AfD is not a vote process - it does, via official Wikipedia policy, require consensus of the small group of people in the discussion. As I can only infer from our conversation here that you're not willing to reconsider the decision, then WP:DRV may be the right next step. All I was trying to do is really just get a better understanding of how and why the deletion decision was reached. All the best, LACameraman 08:16, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

W.marsh, The deletion review of Stephen King's inspiration has closed with a decision to keep the article deleted, but merge the non copyvio info. Would you please userify the article again so that I may do the merging? All the best LACameraman 20:15, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Okay, it's at User:LACameraman/Stephen King's inspiration now, but blanked. You can view the article in the history. Please keep the current version blank, and do a basic check to make anything you merge isn't a copyvio (e.g. just search on Google for a phrase first). --W.marsh 20:20, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks for that, and very quickly. The portions I will be merging, the portions I wrote, are not copyvio. I'll ignore the rest that was lifted from Stephen's site. When I'm done - I'll drop you a line so you can delete this userfied page. Thanks! All the best LACameraman 20:26, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

W.marsh, thanks for the wikified page. I believe I've integrated all the non-copyvio stuff. I appreciate you making that available - we can kill it again now. All the best LACameraman 01:14, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey can you quickly copyedit and view the Bob Meusel article please, as I'm close to sending it to WP:FAC, and thanks for the access to the New York Times Archives, it was very helpful. Still couldn't find alot of info on his early life though. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 00:02, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I've undone your redirect for this film because the Partition (film) is a different film called Partition. :) I realize that the name given the article by User:Mamochkinadochka does not conform to naming conventions, so I've moved it to Partition (1987 film). --Moonriddengirl 17:29, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I see, sorry for doing the redirect too quickly... but they did seem similar at a glance. Oddly enough I got an edit conflict trying to move it to where you were moving it, the correct pagename. --W.marsh 17:30, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Strange! The mysteries of Wikipedia. :/ I was confused by the duplicate title as well when I first started looking for sources, since I'm still not entirely sure the film meets notability. --Moonriddengirl 17:34, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Blanking of Sportspeople during AfD

Hi,

I acknowledge that your objection has substantial merit. I thought about whether to protect and blank for a quite a while, and I decided the BLP is sufficiently charged such that I was going to be very, very cautious. Although my personal belief is that this case of BLP mistake is the most obvious to come through DRV, I thought it would be discourteous to the deleting admin to ignore completely his idea of BLP sensitivity. I had hoped that ideas for content removal might have been taken to talk page; if you wish unprotect, you won't hear an objection from me. I may well have been too tentative. Best wishes, Xoloz 23:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

  • No one agreed with him that it was a BLP issue, he couldn't even defend his assertion when challenged, so I don't see why his bad call gets to live on. Thanks for the permission to unprotect, I wasn't going to "wheel war" (as in, reverse your admin action)... I'll think about it a bit though just to be sure. --W.marsh 23:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

AAHS

I re-wrote American Aviation Historical Society. Please review. I created it this morning and was going to rewrite and expand the article this evening. A simple note would have sufficed. LanceBarber 01:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

  • It looks okay. But a simple note doesn't really suffice, we get rid of copyvios as quickly as we can, that's policy. --W.marsh 01:42, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bigfoot in popular culture

I must disagree with you closure of no consensus, there was in fact a consensus to delete the article. During the discussion not one person claiming the article should be kept raised a valid point. The problem was that the article is a collection of loosely associated topics and fails WP:NOT#DIR. The claims made to defend the article do not counter that claim. Jay32183 18:34, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Well if you ignore everyone you disagree with, I guess you always have consensus. But it didn't seem there was a consensus that the the WP:NOT argument that compelling. Remember what consensus actually is... not enforcing one interpretation of WP:NOT doesn't necessarily mean I wasn't following consensus. Thanks for asking me first but I'm not going to reverse my decision here.--W.marsh 18:37, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
    • But there wasn't an alternate interpretation presented, people just seemed to ignore that it was the concern when presenting their keep arguments. Talking and participating in the discussion aren't necessarily the same. It's not a matter of ignoring who I disagree with, it's a matter of ignoring those who didn't have anything meaningful to say. Jay32183 18:55, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Tracker

Hello, I was about to add more information to the Tracker (software) article. This is a free software project, under the umbrella of the GNOME project, and has recently been chosen to be included in the Ubuntu operating system by default in its next release. this information is verifiable. I am not sure why the article was deleted for being spam, there is no commercial product being advertised and many other free software projects have their own writeup in wikipedia. riffic 02:46, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

  • It was a copy and paste of promotional material though... Wikipedia articles exist to inform rather than promote. It may be a moot point though, for a piece of software to warrant an article, that software needs to have been written about by multiple independent, reliable sources. --W.marsh 02:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
this was a stub article and I was going to add more to it. The content from GNOME's website is under a free documentation license. Tracker has been written about by various third party websites, mostly news blurbs about it being adopted by the next Ubuntu release, but as any free software project thats been around a while, the amount of sources will increase. riffic 03:35, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
anyways this article already existed under Meta Tracker, moving to Tracker (software). Thanks! riffic 04:00, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I just wanted to say thanks for deleting this article. I removed the text from a category page, but forgot to check for copyvio before creating the article. --kateshortforbob 08:35, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Semeasy article deletion

Hi

My name is Oscar Gil and I am the author of Semeasy article (http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Semeasy) you have deleted. I would like to explain I am a member of Semeasy Project, a R&D project subsidized by European Comission. I am the webmaster of http://semeasy.atosorigin.es website so there isn't some problems with copyright. I would like you reconsider to mantain the article because it's an article of R&D dissemination without propagated objectives, only informative. My aim is to complete the article with references to other wiki inputs and external website related to Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services.

My email contact is oscar.gil@atosorigin.com

I wait for your comments.

Best Regards.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Semeasy (talkcontribs)

  • The article really had a long way to go... it should be based on published information about your project, not your own personal knowledge of it, or a stockpile of various stuff already written for its webpage. This is one reason why we discourage people from writing about something where they have a conflict of interest. At any rate I'll userfy it to User:Semeasy/Semeasy so you can work on it. --W.marsh 13:13, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Benito recreation center

A tag has been placed on Benito recreation center, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

ok --W.marsh 14:19, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Why did you delete the page I created?

You have yesterday deleted the article I had created about "Santhosh George Kulangara" with no reason.

  • As I said in the deletion summary, because the text was just a copy and paste of [9]. Wikipedia articles need to be written in your own words. --W.marsh 12:42, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Can you help me to create that article? because the subject has got more media attention these days?...
    • Well, just summarize (but don't copy! summarize and cite) those media sources. Hopefully our documentation at Wikipedia:Your first article is useful. --W.marsh 12:15, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Yitzhak Gitterman NOT A COPYVIO

Please do not delete entries or flag them that have an appropriate tag. Please remove Copyvio notation, as the article has been uploaded by a representative of the museum with permission and in accordance with Wikipedia policy.

Please see note on User:USHMMwestheim

This user is in fact affiliated with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Content the user posts that is a copyvio from the USHMM is A-OK - they know what they're doing, and gave permission via OTRS ticket ticket #2007071910012533. If there are any problems with this account, PLEASE contact me before taking action. Thanks. Phil Sandifer 19:08, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

  • It's not in accordance with Wikipedia policy until the article itself attributes the source under a "notes" or "references" section, something like:
This article incorporates text from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and has been released under the GFDL.

That would do. --W.marsh 18:47, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Article about 'Santhosh George Kulangara'

Marsh Sir,

I have re-created the article about 'Santhosh George Kulangara'. Please review it and make any correction. I've done my best to re-write it in my own words with lots of references. Please do not delete it.

The Aldridge Foundation

I created a page for The Aldridge Foundation, for whom I work, and it was deleted by you. The article text was taken from our website, which I recently wrote and set up, and I understand there are issues relating to copyright. However, since we own the copyright for the website, is there a way around this issue?

If necessary I can be contacted via my work email (daniel.hutt@aldridgefoundation.com) or through the enquiry form on the website (www.aldridgefoundation.com)

Many thanks.

  • Well, you can release the copyright under the GFDL, but we generally discourage people from writing about themselves or places they work for. Articles should be written based on independent sources, not official material and personal knowledge. I can undelete the content if you e-mail me from that work address and have the authority to release the copyright. --W.marsh 12:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

USA Technologies

Please undelete this page. [[10]] The entry was not complete, I will re-write the entry without stating facts from a published site. Thanks for your understanding.

  • You can restart the article whenever you want, but it's best just to start from square one. I can't really undelete copyrighted material anyway. --W.marsh 21:02, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Why did you delete the page? I was still working on it. I had used the content as a placeholder while added more content. It would have not been infringing when I was done. Can you please provide the source so I can fix it.

  • No... you can't copy over text from other sites. Feel free to write it in your own words. --W.marsh 18:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Thats what I was doing when you deleted it all. Half of it was my own words but its all gone now. I was in the process of editing the other half but I need the source to do that.
    • Once something has been copy and pasted you can't just change a few words to make it not a copyright violation... you'd need to actually rewrite it from the ground up in your own words. --W.marsh 12:12, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
