Harvard station[edit]

I very much appreciate all the copyediting you've been doing lately! However, with Harvard station, would you be okay with waiting until I'm finished with the article (probably another week or so)? It would make it easier for me to avoid edit conflicts. I'm planning to nominate it for GA when I'm finished, so your skills will be well appreciated then. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:08, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, I didn't realize that you were doing an ongoing project with that article. I will try to stay out of your way. The article looks well on its way to GA status. Reify-tech (talk) 21:49, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(Archiving suggestion)[edit]

Side note: you may wish to consider archiving your talk page, either manually or with one of the bot options. At 170+ threads and 250+ kB, it's a bit difficult to navigate. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:08, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it has been badly in need of archiving, but I haven't looked into what the alternatives are. What would you recommend? Reify-tech (talk) 21:49, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's two basic ways to do it. Manually, you just cut-and-paste a bunch of threads to User talk:Reify-tech/Archive 1 and so on. That's how I do it; it's quick and easy, and I can choose exactly which discussions. (I delete old bot notifications and event notifications). With a bot, you put a template at the top of the page, and the bot does all the archiving for you. It takes a couple minutes to set up, but then it's all automatic. Help:Archiving a talk page has more detailed instructions. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:29, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Per your advice, I did a massive cut-and-paste to a new archive file. At my leisure, I will delete old routine bot messages and newsletter notifications. If I had realized it was this easy, I would have done it long ago!
Although I consider myself a seasoned editor by now, I still have much to learn about Wikipedia, especially concerning practical shortcuts and obscure tweaks. I thank you for your welcoming hospitality years ago, and your still-helpful attitude today. I have tried my best to pay forward your help, by in turn helping and advising other editors who are new to Wikipedia. With appreciation, Reify-tech (talk) 17:28, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I (in case you want to weigh in)[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Long-term promotional editing by multiple accounts - you've placed COI notices on a couple of their talkpages, so I figured I'd let you know in case you wanted to weigh in. Hope all is well! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 08:36, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Weese Wikipedia page[edit]

Why do you think you own the content of a page of a person you do not know? The family of Harry Weese does not consider him an alcoholic and he never lost his reputation due to alcoholism lost work due to alcoholism or was an alcoholic. That is a complete fabrication cited by one person that had an axe to grind with him. As a family member I am trying to correcting this record. He was never treated or lost his reputation due to alcoholism. Did he drink? Yes, but no more than any person of his generation. You do not own this content and have no right to this non passive voice. It’s not censorship as you are claiming it is a fact and the article you cite is not true, it was just published. That does not make the content true. I consider your changing this fact back “vandalism’ and will move to have you barred from putting this content on wikipedia legally. There is no truth to it. Beewings (talk) 01:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don't project your evidently strong feelings about the Wikipedia article which you have some kind of personal connection with. Your argument is with Wikipedia policy, not with me, and you should air your views on the Talkpage (Talk:Harry Weese). This will give all editors interested in the article a chance to participate in an open discussion. I am far from the first or only editor to restore the information now sourced from multiple references, which you unilaterally deleted several times without any discussion at all. I did not write the paragraph you object to; I only restored it after you abruptly deleted it, and I added another referenced footnote. My other editing of the article was to add more information about Weese's accomplishments and recognition through awards.
I don't why you picked me for your attack, while ignoring several other editors who also disagreed with your peremptory actions. I do not make the rules here, and even disagree with some of them, but I try to comply because I do not "own" Wikipedia or any of its content.
Summary: Do not make personal attacks or legalistic threats against Wikipedia editors who are just following the rules for editing here. Reify-tech (talk) 15:53, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Use American English documentation[edit]

Hi there. Examining the documentation for Template:Use American English, I came across this line, The template automatically substitutes the words "article" or "template", depending on where it is placed.[1] But since it's an invisible template, I don't see that feature. I'm intending to remove it, but want to check with you first to make sure I'm not missing something. Thanks. --Bsherr (talk) 14:30, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the notice, though I'm not sure why you sent it to me. I very occasionally have used the template, but don't recall editing it or its documentation. The template is visible to editors in the Wikisource code after it has been saved once, though it is not visible in the standard reader view. The feature of autoselecting "article" or "template" seems like a flourish. otherwise harmless, as long as it is documented. Reify-tech (talk) 21:07, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I know it was a while back, but it looks like you added that line to the documentation. I linked to the diff above. The issue is I don't actually see the feature substituting the word article or template in the code. --Bsherr (talk) 03:29, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for not following your diff link earlier; it certainly appears as if I did add that some 6 years ago, though I don't remember doing so. I honestly don't recall observing that behavior or commenting on it; it is also possible that the template code has been modified in the intervening years so that this is no longer true (if it ever was).
The bottom line is that I see no problem with your removing that statement of behavior from the documentation, especially if you currently see no evidence for it in the template source code (I'm not sure I even know how to look at it myself). I am frankly puzzled by this odd situation; you have handled it correctly, and I thank you for your courtesy in bringing it to my attention. Reify-tech (talk) 04:12, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the template code at the time of the insertion into the documentation and didn't see the feature there either. Must have just been a mistake. I'll remove it. Thanks for the help. --Bsherr (talk) 21:25, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled (Paul Matisse article)[edit]

Hi there, the information you have re-entered about the Calder Mobile is incorrect. I have removed it. This was designed, fabricated and installed by Paul Matisse, with some input from Sandy Calder, before his untimely death before it was completed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WBryson16 (talkcontribs) 14:36, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As somebody who appears to work for the artist Paul Matisse, you have unique access to primary sources for the article, but you also must comply with Wikipedia's WP:COI policies. The information you removed was carefully referenced from the website of the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. If you have more-accurate or up-to-date information, please discuss it on the article Talkpage Talk:Paul Matisse, and document the reliable sources (WP:RS) for your claims. Please do not discuss the article here on my Talkpage, as this page is less visible to other editors who may also be interested in the article. Reify-tech (talk) 20:26, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for February 5[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Harvard Mark I, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Implosion. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You left a note requesting an image of the warning-signage. It seems quite visible in Pvdbustunnel.JPG (infobox) and visible but partially cut off in File:Providence20June071914ShelterTunnel.jpg (gallery). Are those the signs you have in mind? Both of those images are quite large and high-resolution, so it would be easy to crop a section of interest if you wanted a separate one of the signs. DMacks (talk) 15:57, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was hoping for higher-resolution images of both the east and west portals. The west portal picture partially crops the signage at the edge of the frame, and the signage of both pictures is a bit blurry. No big deal, but lots of people go by there every day. I would have done it myself, if I had thought of it when I was last there. Reify-tech (talk) 16:10, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just noticed on Google Maps Street View that the signage has been changed in the years since the Wikimedia pictures, though the Google pix are blurry and it's hard to make out the wording on the newer signs. The signs do not appear to mention skateboarding specifically, which is why I had reworded the article text to avoid implying this. Reify-tech (talk) 16:38, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Second image at [2] is the west portal in 2018. The sign on the left edge (north of the north entry-arch) says "NO...SKATEBOARDS..." DMacks (talk) 06:55, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Google-maps does tend to blur certain text. DMacks (talk) 09:51, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for finding the Uprise RI article, which somehow I missed in my search results. The article contains a wealth of information, much of which will be useful for Wikipedia. The accompanying photos are very interesting as well, and the one you highlighted is exactly the shot I was hoping for; I doubt it is rights-cleared, but getting another shot similar to it should be straightforward to a photographer who is on-site. This is clear evidence that skateboards are explicitly banned from the tunnel. It appears that more-restrictive signs have been posted over the time since the Wikimedia Commons photos from 2005 and 2007. Reify-tech (talk) 15:48, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your great copyediting[edit]

I've been learning a lot from your cleanup and copy-editing of the architecture stuff I am working on. Thanks again! Fothergilla (talk) 19:59, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to be of help. I learned much of what I know about Wikipedia editing the same way, by observing the work of other more-experienced editors. There are online tutorials and documentation, notably the Wikipedia Manual of Style, but it is often easiest to learn by example. Reify-tech (talk) 02:01, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Reify-tech. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page WGBH-TV, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 21:11, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have never had, and have no present connection with WGBH or its employees, other than having an ordinary WGBH membership as a local viewer living in Boston. I have no special sources of information, other than what is readily available to the public. If I have been WP:BOLD in my recent edits to the article WGBH-TV, it is only because I could see that the article's readability, organization, and logical flow could be improved. I also linked it to the existing article on Hartford N. Gunn Jr., but made minimal changes to the latter article, other than flagging specific items needing improvement. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Hello, I reverted your edit because of WP:SELFPUBLISH, which says that self-published material does not make a good source. Thank you.
