GA Sweeps July update[edit]

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 290 articles were swept in June! Last month was our second most successful month in reviewing articles (after May). We are currently over 70% done with Sweeps, with just under 800 articles left to review. With nearly 50 members, that averages out to about 15 articles per person. If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. This may sound difficult, but if everyone completes their reviews, Sweeps would be completed in less than two years when we first started (with only four members!). With the conclusion of Sweeps, each editor could spend more time writing GAs, reviewing at the backlogged GAN, or focusing on other GARs. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:03, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewed and given GA. I left a few comments you might look at, but you should be home free from here.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 11:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

The Music Barnstar
I have been very impressed by your amazing work on the Final Fantasy music articles. A number of barnstars came to mind for the hard work you've done on them: The Working Man's Barnstar, The Barnstar of High Culture, VG Barnstar, and The Tireless Contributor Barnstar. But I figured something different from what you already have would be good. Again, the string of articles is quite an impressive feat. And one I don't think many in the VG project will ever replicate. Please keep up the good work. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:21, 6 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

The Black Mages Good Topic[edit]

I was wondering if The Black Mages could become a GT if I got Tsuyoshi Sekito, Kenichiro Fukui, and Keiji Kawamori to GA status. TBM and Nobuo Uematsu are already at GA status, and I've been planning to work on Sekito, Fukui, and Kawamori anyway. Information on the remaining members, Michio Okamiya and Arata Hanyuda, is very scarce, so I don't think any articles can be made about them (at least yet). Do you think this will become a problem for the GT? The Prince (talk) 21:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, I'll get to work then. The Prince (talk) 21:39, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, can you give a bit more feedback on, if Pavilion projects is brought to GA, whether you'd then prefer it to be included or not? (As opposed to whether you feel it needs including in the first place?) rst20xx (talk) 19:08, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps August update[edit]

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 215 articles were swept in July! We are currently nearly 80% done with Sweeps, with under 600 articles left to review. With 50 members, that averages out to about 12 articles per person. Once the remaining articles drop to 100, I'll help in reviewing the last articles (I'm currently taking a break). If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 19:33, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You've marked this in your Sweeps list as one you've done and passed, yet there is no GAR listed on the article and it clearly fails the GA criteria. Was this one you intended to do and did not get to? Ditto Music of Final Fantasy VIII, Music of Kingdom Hearts and World of Final Fantasy VIII. Also, as all of these appear to be articles you actively edit, it would seem to me that you should not be doing GAR review son them at this time. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 18:00, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music of the Mana series[edit]

Great work so far on the Music of the Mana series article. I just noticed today the Gamasutra posted a lengthy interview with both Hiroki Kikuta and Yoko Shimomura that I thought you might be interested in. ~ Hibana 00:38, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Music of the Katamari Damacy series[edit]

Updated DYK query On September 12, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Music of the Katamari Damacy series, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Soul soundtrack question[edit]

Hey oh, I got a question. Could you merge Super Battle Sound Attack Soul Edge, Soul Edge Original Soundtrack - Khan Super Session, Soulcalibur Original Soundtrack, Soulcalibur II Original Soundtrack and Soulcalibur III Original Soundtrack - Legend of Sounds into Soul series discography? I'm asking you this since your he only one that does this stuff. GamerPro64 (talk) 19:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! you work fast! GamerPro64 (talk) 20:26, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, looks like GamePro had the same idea I did, I was going to ask if you'd be up for working on that article as you're pretty much the master of great discography articles.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 20:36, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering, should all composers who have worked for Square Enix be added or just the ones currently employed? I see for one that e.g. Yasunori Mitsuda and Yoko Shimomura aren't present. The Prince (talk) 21:01, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) I've added a few more composers to increase the count to 25. The Prince (talk) 22:24, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Make moar articles for EarthBound![edit]

I assume you have an interest in EarthBound, and ATM, I've been working on the following articles: User:New Age Retro Hippie/Giygas, User:New Age Retro Hippie/Lucas (Mother 3), and User:New Age Retro Hippie/Characters of EarthBound. I'm not sure if there's enough for Lucas (probably isn't), but I reckon that Giygas might be doable; the only problem I have is that I can't find very much critical coverage for him, believe it or not. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 20:11, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yoko Shimomura[edit]

Hi. I thought maybe it would benefit the Yoko Shimomura article to have a portrait of her. Perhaps we could upload a fair-use image from Flickr, such as this one, to the Wikimedia Commons under the Creative Commons license. (Nice work on the article by the way) ~ Hibana 05:28, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I have uploaded the images to commons, so that other Wikipedia projects can use them as well. I'm not sure, but I think maybe the files you uploaded should be deleted. I have to thank you very much for making the effort of getting the images usable on Wikipedia. All those articles look a lot better with an image. BTW, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could I ask you to do the same to this image of Ko Otani? I'm going to start expanding it, and it would be so much more motivating starting on it with an image. :) The Prince (talk) 23:52, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One Winged Angel[edit]

Been looking at that section on Sephiroth's page, and it makes me think if it could be expanded and with some reception a small yet good article could be developed for the song. Since you're the resident music guy I figured you'd know best whether or not the sources even exist to really bother building such an article. What do you think?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:36, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Figured that'd be the case: people love to call something like this iconic but never actually go into the why or how. Ah well, thanks for your time man.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:50, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation![edit]

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
  • Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
  • Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.

If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:45, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Katamari Damacy Tribute album cover.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Katamari Damacy Tribute album cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow![edit]

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! GA Sweeps update[edit]

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 90% done with only 226 articles remain to be swept! As always, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. With over 50 members participating in Sweeps, that averages out to about 4 articles per person! If each member reviews an article once a week this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. At that point, awards will be handed out to reviewers. As an added incentive, if we complete over 100 articles reviewed this month, I will donate $100 to Wikipedia Forever on behalf of all GA Sweeps participants. I hope that this incentive will help to increase our motivation for completing Sweeps while supporting Wikipedia in the process. If you have any questions about reviews or Sweeps let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 00:15, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I took a closer look on language because shorter formulation etc. makes it easier for a reader - we tend to add more words to an article to make it seeemingly more coherent but reading is actually easier when those are not used; I often look at the "cheat sheet" here to avoid unnecessary work. I have some points left on the review page. Best Hekerui (talk) 21:25, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your comments on the "City of Blinding Lights" FAC. I believe that I have addressed your concerns with the Alt text and the broken link. I'm sorry if this comes across as nagging or being too worried, but could you return to review the adjustments on the above FAC soon? I've had several prior FAC's closed without promotion when the reviewers did not return after their comments had been addressed, and it's something that I would really like to avoid this time round. WikiCup 2010 January newsletter[edit]

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Isle of Man Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! Progress as of January 2010

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 95% done with around 130 articles left to be swept! Currently there are over 50 members participating in Sweeps, that averages out to about 3 articles per person! If each member reviews an article once a week this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. At that point, awards will be handed out to reviewers. Per my message last month, although we did not review 100 articles last month, I still made a donation of $90 (we had 90 reviews completed/initiated) to Wikipedia Forever on behalf of all GA Sweeps reviewers. I would like to thank everyone's efforts for last month, and ask for additional effort this month so we can be finished. I know you have to be sick of seeing these updates (as well as Sweeps itself) by now, so please do consider reviewing a few articles if you haven't reviewed in a while. If you have any questions about reviews or Sweeps let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 02:43, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Music of the Xenosaga series[edit]

Updated DYK query On February 9, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Music of the Xenosaga series, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Final Fantasy character classes[edit]

Thanks for fixing the GA page. I didn't do my homework to actually see what happened to the article, I just assumed someone had forgot to list it under DGA after removing from GAR, based on multiple edits. MrKIA11 (talk) 21:31, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2010 February newsletter[edit]

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.

Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GA Sweeps Completed![edit]

Thanks to everyone's amazing efforts in February, we have reviewed all of the articles and are now finished with Sweeps! There are still about 30 articles currently on hold, and once those reviews are completed, I will send you a final message about Sweeps process stats including the total number of articles that were passed and failed. If you have one of these open reviews, be sure to update your count when the review is completed so I can compile the stats. You can except to receive your award for reviewing within the next week or two. Although the majority of the editors did not start Sweeps at the beginning in August 2007 (myself included), over 50 editors have all come together to complete a monumental task and improve many articles in the process. I commend you for sticking with this often challenging task and strengthening the integrity of the GA WikiProject as well as the GAs themselves. I invite you to take a break from reviewing (don't want you to burn out!) and then consider returning/starting to review GANs and/or contribute to GAR reviews. With your assistance, we can help bring the backlog down to a manageable level and help inspire more editors to improve articles to higher classes and consider reviewing themselves. Again, thank you for putting up with difficult reviews, unhappy editors, numerous spam messages from me, and taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Image review for 1956 Winter Olympics[edit]

Hello, I note that you do quite a bit of image review on WP:FAC. I am attempting to bring the 1956 Winter Olympics article to FAC and I have uploaded three images (my first image uploads). These were uploaded from the official report of the Games written by the Organizing Committee. The image links are: File:1956 Winter Olympics opening ceremonies.jpg, File:Sverre Stenersen.jpg, File:Ice stadium.jpg. My question is whether or not you feel that these would pass review at FAC? I've asked the question at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions and the answer was inconclusive. There has been a recent discussion about whether or not to delete the PD-Italy template and the consensus was to keep the template. The discussion is archived and can be accessed here: Wikipedia:Templates for discussion#Template:PD-Italy. Would you be able to take a look at these images and see if they meet FA standards? I sincerely appreciate your time and help. User:H1nkles citius altius fortius 22:46, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your review. I appreciate it, and I know that you don't speak for the entire community but you're giving your opinion. I'm so confounded by copyright laws that it is frankly daunting to even begin the try and understand them. I will keep the images in the article for now. Much appreciated! User:H1nkles citius altius fortius 22:32, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have offered a review of the article, and placed it on hold. Congratulations on the Flower FA by the way- that's one of the fastest DYK-TFA turnovers (with all the middle bits) I've ever seen. Shame you didn't create the article, otherwise you would be eligible for a Four Award. J Milburn (talk) 22:13, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive[edit]

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

A sincere thank you from Wikiproject Good Articles[edit]

On behalf of Wikiproject Good Articles, I would like to express our gratitude to you for your contributions to the Sweeps process, for which you completed 23 reviews. Completion of this monstrous task has proven to be a significant accomplishment not only for our project, but for Wikipedia. As a token of our sincere appreciation, please accept this ribbon. Lara 01:07, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PresN, I just noticed these two articles were created on the 17 October and 20 October, respectively. If they're not merged back into the Characters of Final Fantasy XII article, then they should definitely be added to the FFXII FT. The three month from creation rule means they should have been added by 17 and 20 January, though I for one would be willing to let you try to get them to GA/merge them before considering nominating the topic for removal - rst20xx (talk) 17:11, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2010 March newsletter[edit]

We're half way through round two, and everything is running smoothly. Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) leads overall with 650 points this round, and heads pool B. New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) currently leads pool C, dubbed the "Group of Death", which has a only a single contestant yet to score this round (the fewest of any group), as well five contestants over 100 points (the most). With a month still to go, as well as 16 wildcard places, everything is still to play for. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Although unrelated to the WikiCup, April sees a Good Article Nominations backlog elimination drive, formulated as a friendly competition with small awards, as the Cup is. Several WikiCup contestants and judges have already signed up, but regular reviewers and those who hope to do more reviewing are more than welcome to join at the drive page. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
