License tagging for File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:05, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, BOT-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate your file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Frederick Woodward Branson.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hi Paul

Thanks for providing us with that link to the Wikipedia articles – I think we’ll print them off and get them added to our stock, if that’s OK!

I’m really pleased you’ve managed to find some images of your family’s business on Leodis – you can actually just download/copy the images from the website for using on Wikipedia without any payment, provided you credit them as being copyright of “Leeds Library and Information Service, www.leodis.net”.

If you want to order printed copies for yourself, you can do that via the Leodis site.

Kind regards

Hello, I think User:AntiCompositeNumber will be able to help you out here. Thanks VarunFEB2003 I am Offline 10:48, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Someone summoned me? Well hello then! I've taken the time to look through the images you uploaded, and some of them have a few problems. Some of these images may be in the public domain, some may be able to be freely licensed, and some may be non-free. To determine which images fit into each category, we need you to help provide additional information.
Photo Album?

First, it looks like you uploaded some images from family photo albums that were not distributed to the public in any way. In this case there are three likely options: 1. You took the original images, and are the rights holder because you are the author; 2. The original images were given to you; or 3. Someone else (likely a family member) owns the copyright to the images. If it is 1. or 2. there is no issue with licensing of those images. If number 3 is the case, there is some work to do.
Previously published?
Some of the images have were listed as being previously published. In order to determine their copyright status, we need to know where and when they were published. Many of these images would be in the public domain if they were published, but would not be if they weren't published before 1943.
Leodis
For the images from Leodis, we need to know when they were first published. If they were from somebody's private collections, and weren't made available to the public, then the images are non-free. If they were published (made available to the public at large) prior to 1943, they are public domain.
In Short
  1. Who owns the rights to the images from the photo albums?
  2. Where were the "Previously published" items published?
  3. Where and when were the Leodis images published, if they ever were?
Once these questions are answered, I can continue to help sort this out. If you have any questions or need any help, you can ping me, leave a message on my talk page, or ask at the Media Copyright Questions page AntiCompositeNumber is on vacation. The listed image uses {{Non-free Parliamentary copyright}}, which should be according to Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. I'm not sure under which copyright license the Leeds images fall, so you need to find the proper template (as the one I provided is for Parliamentary images). See Category:Wikipedia non-free file copyright tags for the appropriate tag. If your images qualify for non-free use, then you can upload them to the English Wikipedia (not Commons), to use in the article. —Hexafluoride Ping me if you need help, or post on my talk 10:17, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frederick Woodward Branson[edit]

I commented on the media copyright requests page, that I thought there were issues with the Frederick Woodward Branson article. First, let me thank you for your contributions on this & other pages - they're much appreciated. As my time is short, let me be blunt but also let me apologise for being so - I don't mean to discourage you in any way. I think there's a very good article and very good wikipedia editor to be had out of this situation.

Let me point you at WP:COI which is there, amongst other things, to mitigate against articles being written by people with a connection with the subject, who may be more interested in the subject than in the norms of the encyclopedia. In my head, you fall into this category and, in combination with you being fairly new to wikipedia, have as a result produced an article about an undoubtedly notable person which has all sorts of red flag issues. They include:

  • Way too many images. Visit, I don't know, Winston Churchill or some other well photographed figure of history. Note the ratio of text to images. You have disgorged pretty much the whole family album onto the subject page - headshots of diverse members of an extended family, family group photos, their houses. Really, we lack only a cute picture of Fido the dog to complete it all.
  • Many/most of the images do not pertain to the subject
  • Pretty much no image caption on wikipedia has a copyright statement in it. All of yours do. Why?
  • Why have we a huge history of Reynolds & Branson, going on for several sections. (I see you are working on a Reynolds & Branson article: presumably all of the R&B stuff in FWB will be moved there?
  • "The Life And Times Of Frederick W. Branson And His Family". No. "Biography", or "Life". And remember the article is about him, not his family, else it would be an article entitled "Frederick W. Branson and his Family". (And sections headings are sentence case, not Initial Letter Case)
  • Why is the biog on single huge paragraph?
  • It's doubtful we need an extended treatise on radium in the FWB article.
  • Why are you trying to find, in the media copyright page, ways of supporting two frankly poor images of streetfronts and shop signs. If the images were of any quality, they might be worth fighting for. As it is, I really don't think they lend any more to the article than, say, the house images.

To conclude: I think there are some great sections in the FWB article, and I appreciate your use of citations. Yours is a far better effort than I ever made when I was a couple of months into wikipedia editing. However I think there's considerable scope for improvement, not least to get this article to look and feel like other wikipedia biographies. hth --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:10, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If I get time I will. Don't be discouraged. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:30, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:K.R.Ali Taekwondo Academy, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:31, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Paulboll. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "K.R.Ali Taekwondo Academy".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 02:01, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
