Barnstar[edit]

Invisible Barnstar.png The Invisible Barnstar
For reviewing 2 nominations for a total of 3 points during the June 2022 GAN Backlog Drive, I hereby award you this barnstar. Congratulations! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 14:28, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Pickersgill-Cunliffe thanks so much to you and the coordinators going through the backlog of work here. I am more than happy to assist in the next backlog drive. If the coordinators are still short, I’m happy to do a bunch of barnstars as well to anyone missing them. Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 21:25, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just finished up the current drive, so there's nothing left to do there. Feel free to volunteer when people start to make noise about the next one though! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:48, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

DYK for Murder of Vivianne Ruiz (Jane Doe)[edit]

Updated DYK query.svg

On 11 February 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Murder of Vivianne Ruiz (Jane Doe), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a bloodied fingerprint on newspaper was the central piece of evidence in the murder of Vivianne Ruiz? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Murder of Vivianne Ruiz (Jane Doe). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Murder of Vivianne Ruiz (Jane Doe)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

There are problems.
  • Under the legal cases section you have "Regina v White [1996] NSWSC 1806". Looking at the list of June cases you'll notice that the volume numbers (or whatever they are) seem to be all only 3 digits, not like "1806". And in that list there is not "Regina v White". Then the given link to the document [1] does not work, giving a 404.
Got any idea where the document is now?
  • And I was looking for that because of "Hidden J found White had killed Ruiz in a fit of passion." Now "Hidden J" might be a great name for a rap artist, but... huh?
  • nit: Under #Trial_and_conviction, you have "The prosecutor produced ..." which is a while-the-trial-is-happening fact, followed by "White elected to have a judge only trial" which is a how-the-trial-was-conducted fact. I'd think "White elected" would be better moved upward as the second sentence of the paragraph.
  • nit: I think now "... secretions which father on a finger's unique ridges..." should have been 'gather'?
  • nit: "White found to be living" s.b. "White was found to be living"

Hey thanks, I can take a look. The reason for the different numbering is that this is an unreported decision. It was never catalogued by a law report and so doesn’t show up anywhere except the database of the NSW Supreme Court. It is particularly important when researching to look well beyond Austlii as that is merely a research database run by volunteers from the University of NSW. I had to visit the Supreme Court library in person to view the record with the help of a librarian. Purchasing the case was not practicable as it had to be ordered specially and I wasn’t prepared to pay the $180 in fees for the three decisions. Hidden J is Justice Hidden. I may consider changing it to Justice Hidden for readability but initially I used Hidden J as that is how we refer to jurists in Australia per the Australian guide to legal citation. Thanks for the feedback! MaxnaCarta (talk) 08:34, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To be clear: you're referring to a specific jurist whose surname is "Hidden" ? DS (talk) 18:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And I have written a (very short introductory) article on Peter Hidden. DS (talk) 19:07, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DragonflySixtyseven nice work. That's the judge. Good one on creating an entry for them. MaxnaCarta (talk) 01:08, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Shenme:, forgot to ping you 08:45, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, MaxnaCarta!

English-language sources are scarce, but there are Russian books and online sources to establish notability.

1. 1 paragraph (~700 characters, ~100 words) about the film in the book The splendour and misery of Russian television [2]

2. At least one or maybe a few paragraphs in the book A recent history of national cinema [3]

3. Another reference, unfortunately brief, to the film is made by Dmitry Bykov, but he is a major writer and this is the preface to a book, which is a collection of screenplays by the filmmakers of Gongofer. [4] or here [5]

There are many reviews or movie catalogues' mentions, too, but they all surely may contain unnotable, by Wiki standards, movies, too.

As for Golden Aries, this film award no longer exists. It existed in 1992-2006 as one of the awards of the Kinotavr festival, which is still held today. It wasn't the most prestigious one in Russian cinematography, but it is not unknown. Medium level, I'd say. --Saul McGill (talk) 00:14, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please edit the draft and bring include these @Saul McGill. This will prevent it from being nominated for deletion. I am a new page reviewer in addition to AFC reviewer, and as it stands I would not mark the page as reviewed. Until I reach that threshold, I won't move the article to main and leave it for others to fix. Let's make it the best it can be before we move to main. Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 01:07, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

All done, thanks for your help.--Saul McGill (talk) 03:44, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Saul McGill Sorry, I do not see significant coverage in reliable sources. I see blogs, passing mentions, and other unreliable coverage none of which meets the notability criteria for films to my satisfaction. This does not mean the article cannot be accepted ever or by another editor. It just means I have decided not to approve it. You may resubmit for consideration by another editor. However, please do not move the article to main space yourself until another AFC editor has reviewed it. While it may be disappointing for me to decline to consider the article for submission further, after significant improvements another editor may feel comfortable to do so. I strongly recommend you review the criteria set out here before continuing further. Thank you. MaxnaCarta (talk) 03:20, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
