ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Car racing websites[edit]

A long time ago, you posted a discussion regarding the reliability of various websites here. I don't know if you are still curious as to the result of the discussion, but as an editor with a few good articles in the area I thought I'd give it a crack. Planet Le Mans, not reliable. If it's covered in Planet Le Mans, and is true, it'll be covered elsewhere like Autosport. If not, its just paddock talk. Racingsportscars is a last-ditch source. Plenty of motorsport databases exist, Motor Sport (magazine) has their own, albeit spotty. The FIA publishes yearbooks in which results for races can be found; a library request is simply the way to go. Moreover, if that website is being used to establish notability, it's probably not a good idea. Ultimatecarpage. Where do I start. It's not encyclopedic, I'll say that much. Whatever claims it makes should be cross-referenced with other sources. The only thing I'd ever use it for is car dimensions (height, length, width, wheelbase). More often than not, magazines such as Car and Driver and Motor Trend have first drive reviews which include specifications (reading the latest issue of Evo gives the same impression). Mulsanne corner is wholly USERG and unsuitable, if you have a look at Audi R10 TDI the same User who contributed largely to the article is also responsible for the website itself. Luke, who in that discussion, asserts that since these sources are present in current (then) good articles, means that they are reliable. Not the case. Many, if not all, can and should be superseded. I'm sorry if this was a long read, but it is really disappointing with how crap most of our motorsport articles are. It really is. X750. Spin a yarn? Cool, thanks! Something I've observed on the Internet in the 9 years since I posted that at RSN is migration of specialty content. It used to be relegated to the sorts of borderline websites like the ones I was asking about. Now more reliable content can be found on much more functional "established" websites as those sorts of outfits have figured out how to monetize an online presence. A boon for Wikipedia, though offset by one of the main monetization methods being paywalls.... Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane! Lagrange613 14:04, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
