Precious anniversary[edit]

Precious
Seven years!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:45, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt
Hi. I think it's about time that we talk about that "Precious" award, and time that I tell you the meaning of that "benediction from a wise man."
Here's your original post:
Thank you, user not without irony ("As you can see, I'm very wordy."), for being short in words but generous in welcoming new users and informing others politely that you reverted something that seemed not constructive, for maintenance work such as Kentucky Mountain Bible College, for good questions and quoting "May you always forget the roots of past ills", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!
I want to enlighten you on that "benediction from a wise man" that is in my user profile. As you will see, every line of it is a curse in disguise.
May you always forget the roots of past ills, - Forgetting the "roots" of "past ills" means to forget what happened that caused trouble in your life, not forgetting the trouble itself. "Those that fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it," so if you forget what got you into trouble, you're likely to get into trouble again. Not good.
and may your enemies be far from you. - The old saying goes, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." When you allow enemies to get outside of your scope of vision, and you think they are far from you, you are in danger.
May you come to the attention of powerful people, - The attention of the powerful is usually not wasted on lowly people unless they are causing a problem for the powerful ones, and at that point, the powerful one will act only to squash the lowly person. Not a good thing.
and may history be written in your time. - The Chinese proverbial curse says, "May you live in interesting times." From the article: "While seemingly a blessing, the expression is normally used ironically; life is better in "uninteresting times" of peace and tranquility than in "interesting" ones, which are usually times of trouble."
May you receive all that you deserve, - If all of one's deeds were to be honestly and fairly judged, we would all be in serious trouble. We all do bad things that we get away with. For most of us, getting "everything we deserve" would mean we were significantly worse off than we are now.
and may you soon find all you seek. - Having nothing left to strive for, nothing left to hope for, is not generally considered a good thing. "May all your wishes be granted except one so that you always have something to hope for" is sometimes said.
Again, I don't know who you are or what this Precious thing is, but it seems to me that it's about time that you stop marking the anniversary of the date you noticed a curse that you did not understand.
I hope that is helpful to you, and have a great day. Jm (talk | contribs) 18:26, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining, so just in prose that it's the anniversary, and we thank you, even if I have used wrong words, understanding little, - foreign me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:49, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
