Dutch affixes[edit]

I just saw that you are modifying all articles containing Dutch "von", "de" and so on. Just to be clear, and to avoid that mistake in the future, the first letter of these affixes should only go lowercase if the first name precedes it? Or is there another exception?--ReyHahn (talk) 20:33, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, ReyHahn. That's correct. The first name or an initial. Jay D. Easy (t • c) 20:35, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to check if the subject is actually Dutch before renaming pages, the latter name in Frank–van der Merwe growth is South African. Although the same capitalizations rules apply here, I suggest checking for the origin of the name manually in each case.Pieceofmetalwork (talk) 16:42, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Pieceofmetalwork. The first tussenvoegsel in a Dutch family name is always capitalized if not preceded by the subject's given name or initial, be they Dutch, Belgian, South African, Surinamese, or any other nationality of Dutch descent. Jay D. Easy (t • c) 20:36, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ordering of categories: MOS:CATORDER[edit]

Hi. I reverted your alphabetic ordering of categories at Guus Til because it violated WP:FOOTY convention. See this recent discussion at WP:FOOTY: [1] The convention is based on MOS:CATORDER which states: "Normally the most essential, significant categories appear first." Please do not change the ordering of categories of football articles to be alphabetical. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:48, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, could you explain why you removed the category "Vietnamese people of Dutch descent" from Nguyễn van Bakel's article? Van Bakel was born in the Netherlands and acquired Vietnamese citizenship. Wouldn't that make him a Vietnamese person of Dutch descent? You wrote "tw" in your edit summary which doesn't ring a bell. Re: Sydney Lumet disambig[edit]

Hi, J. - Adding the lifespan to the short description is standard practice, not disambiguation. I understand that his birth year is required for disambiguation, but that doesn't mean the lifespan including year of death should not also be there. Thx for listening. Blainster (talk) 23:41, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Argumentum ad antiquitatem. WP:SDDATES: "Dates or date ranges are encouraged where they would: (a) enhance the short description as an annotation or (b) improve it as a disambiguation." I don't know any other film directors named Sidney Lumet. Do you? WP:SD40: "no more than 40 characters". Right now without dates it's already at 49 characters. List of "Other notable Miniconjou"[edit]

Hi, Jay, in a 2019 edit of yours on the page Miniconjou you cited an article by S.B. Doyle as the source for a list of "Other notable Miniconjou". I've checked Doyle's article, p. 66, but I couldn't find either the list or all the names included in it. I wonder if you could take a look at the matter. Cheers. Jeanambr (talk) 17:33, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: the list includes both a "Spotted Elk, son of Lone Horn, half-brother of Touches the Clouds" and a "Chief Spotted Elk, later known as "Chief Big Foot", who is claimed, in the related article, to be precisely a son of Lone Horn.

Check the edit again. I think you may be confused. Jay D. Easy (t • c) 20:52, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The 16:17, 1 April 2019 revision as edited by you (oldid 882729220) reads: "Other notable Miniconjou::[1]".

In fact, I am now realizing that you did not enter the footnote yourself, but simply moved it to the wrong place. Cheers.--Jeanambr (talk) 12:29, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of Dutch family-name affixes[edit]

You may be interested in joining the discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anthroponymy, subjects " Capitalising or omitting words in Dutch surnames and Guidance on amalgmating multiple pages that contain spelling variations of the same name I am especially interested in your opinion because you still seem to be interested in the Tussenvoegsel article, whereas the auctor intellectualis( Rex Germanus) of that article seems to have huffily withdrawn from Wikipedia. I am especially interested in what you could contribute on the alternative "separable family-name affix" (Note the notion "separable affix" is currently noted in the lede of Affix. but the concept itself is a redirect page to Separable verb). Ereunetes (talk) 18:36, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Since the article is a GA, might I suggest using the article talk page? --Kansas Bear (talk) 19:07, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You made a mistake[edit]

you made a mistake while editing the most consecutive wins section because you didn't edit the rowspan. I've corrected the error.

I'm telling you this because you asked 'what are you doing'? Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 15:20, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What rowspan? Only mistakes I see are the ones that you added. Jay D. Easy (t) 15:28, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
go view the page history. you forgot to edit the page properly and thus the rows and columns were out of place. I changed that Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 15:33, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain how the columns and rows were out of place here and here. Jay D. Easy (t) 15:36, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
seems like there was an intervening edit which confused things a little. no worries, I was working towards the same thing you were anyway Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 15:37, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Glad that's cleared up. I'm going to do one final edit now to fix your mistakes. Jay D. Easy (t) 15:39, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
what mistakes? the page is now in optimal condition after I corrected your previous edit which coincidentally even you had corrected Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 15:40, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
cool just saw your edit and you corrected an errant 5 and Hungarian Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 15:42, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly do get the feeling that you're having some difficulty interpreting a page's revision history. Please see H:DIFF. It explains how to compare page revisions quite well. Jay D. Easy (t) 15:51, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
no i'm not, you just made an edit in the time i was editing is all Becausewhynothuh? (talk) 22:11, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vad and Railway accidents and incidents templates[edit]

Hello there, if you are looking for ideas for new projects, the {{Railway accidents and incidents}} template would greatly benefit from the same improvement in the date format that you developed for the Aviation accidents and incidents template. This should be discussed first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains but I can't imagine the idea facing much opposition. Of all the railway accident templates currently in use, I have already converted half from the old format to the vad format, so the remaining half could be converted directly to the new date format, once it's implemented. -- Deeday-UK (talk) 11:07, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The idea has crossed my mind, too. Shouldn't be all that difficult to implement. Go ahead and initiate the proposal at WP:WPT and I'll monitor the response. Jay D. Easy (t) 16:49, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
