I'm very unhappy that that whole discussion was conducted in a totally different place; I had no idea anything of the sort was being decided on and was unable to contribute. Surely that's not hard to understand. I will try to gather my wits later to make a mature and helpful argument, but for now I'm extremely distracted and upset by the whole thing. Stars question

Do you have any thoughts on the canonical name of Nehellenia's whatsits in the first few episodes of Stars? I've seen Mirror Parody, Mirror Paredory (most commonly), and Mirror Palais Dolly... No clue where anyone is getting these. --Masamage 08:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply! I'm still sort of uncertain, though. In ep. 197, Nehellenia's voice very clearly says "paredori," when Parody would be "parodi." Not only that, but the only reference I can find on Hitoshi Doi's site is in the episode summaries, where he consistantly calls them Paredories. I can't find a page about a Stars anime book, either. ?_? Maybe he's moved things around? --Masamage 00:23, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Right, but the thing I saw said "Dolly," not doll, so "dori" works just fine. I found them!!

I was looking for pics of Naoko Takeuchi when I came across the character pics that match the one on Michiru Kaioh's page. There is one of each of the 10 major Senshi and even ChibiChibi. Hi. I answered you on the talk page of Asiaphile, but I figured I'd drop a personal line here as well. As I said on the talk page, I have a problem with stereotipisations of culture as well. I'm not Asian, but I am sometimes on the receiving end of stereotipisations, so I think I know how you feel. I'm European, and one thing I can tell you is, European women *do* shave their armpits :) I'm also from Slovenia. If you read up on it, you'll see that it's a small but nice, developed and fairly wealthy place, even though it's an ex-communist country. So imagine how upset I felt when I heard that the script for the movie The Terminal was originaly written so that the volatile, dirt-poor country Tom Hanks' charachter was from would be Slovenia. Nothing could be further from the truth, but Spielberg couldn't care less about truth. He was just looking for a small Eastern European country. And they're all the same, aren't they?

I'm no die hard fanatic, but I figured I'd patrol the Asiaphile article and make sure it doesn't slump back into the adolescent "weeaboo!" form it was in. The legendary manga of mine that never saw the light of day was Trouble Quartet. It got rejected because, simply put, it wasn't interesting. Objectively speaking, that is. Personally, I really liked it. It was a weird sports manga with homosexual characters and cross-dressing (I may have turned off a lot of Weekly Shonen Jump readers just by explaining this much of the story).

I wrote a script based on my own personal interest, and was satisfied with it, but I couldn't work it up to a level where it would be commercially successful. Still, I grew deeply attached to it. I hope that one day, once I built a name for myself as a writer, I will see the day when this title will be published in a different form.

Timeline question

If Usagi is pregnant with Chibiusa when she gets married, which seems to be before she becomes Neo-Queen Serenity at age 22, and Chibiusa comes from 1000 years in the future but is only 900 years old...was Usagi pregnant for 100 years? --Masamage ♫ 22:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Yup, you're right in your criticisms of the manga page. And that's part of why I and some other people started a MAJOR revision of the article a couple of weeks ago. We put lots of comments in the manga talk page and on the manga/anime project talk page about the revision.

All the material up to the section called "Gekiga" is brand new. Why don't you read it?

We're going to finish the shōjo section by later today, maybe tomorrow. Then we were planning on moving to YAOI and shonen, and from there to the next major section of the revision, which was supposed to be about how manga portrays people and how people react to manga. Thus far, we've put in nearly a 100 references into the revision, which is a serious, solid, and scholarly piece of writing.

But I can't work alone and I won't work against people. So, here's the deal. Read the revised section, and comment on it on my User Talk page. Then let's see if there's any future in my continuing to work on the revision. At the moment, I have a lot of doubts. Read my User page and you'll see why.

Did you know that open adoptions only break down because the "birthmother" loses interest? Me neither... We apparently must also reference things like Alabama and Oregon having open records, and that the Earth is not flat. Are MangaStyle translations equivalent to the real books?

Hi, odd question, can I please get some confirmation from you that the translations on MangaStyle are true to the originals in the book? Per the discussion on WT:ANIME, I'd like to replace the citations to the scans/translations on MangaStyle (in articles like Tuxedo Mask, Sailor Galaxia etc.) with citations to the original books, and in order to do that, I'd like some kind of assurance that the two are equivalent. Oh dear! Well personally I like H's graphic. I don't quite see how the presence of a child infantilises adopted people because this is some thing that happens to you when you are a child, but then I'm not adopted myself so its not up to me to say how these things affect other people. The best complement would have been if nobody commented on it. I must have been 3 or 4 when I first saw this film, and 6 a second time: what I remember is the "spacewheel"... and Sgt. Imoto's speech. It struck me with awe then and now. Then, because the filmmaker had the courage to include a Japanese hero less than ten years after the end of WWII, and because so much of this speech is true (25 years later I learned that only 20% of Japan's landmass is arable). Hi. I'm not sure what material you're specifically referring to. In any case, the examples in the article are sourced, and according to the definition (which is also sourced), urban fantasy is simply fantasy that takes place within an urban setting. -- James26 (talk) 02:57, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. I changed some of the sources (specifically for Rachel Morgan, Night Huntress, Darkest Powers, House of Night, Rampant, and Evernight). Others didn't need updating. Overall, the sources either mention "urban fantasy" directly, or mention cities and towns (Tulsa, Venice, etc). The one for The Immortals series simply mentions a "high school," but I would think that this is sufficient enough evidence of the genre. I don't think it's necessary to specify the name of the city in every example. The point is that they're urban fantasies. As for city issues, I don't know if those are even the major focus in each and every urban fantasy story out there. I could be mistaken, but I think the main focus these days tends to be on the character issues that are mentioned (paranormal romances, angst-ridden teenagers, love triangles, policewomen, etc). I updated the article because I was noticing those kinds of similarities in many urban fantasy novels, and I thought it was time to note all of those similarities in a single place.

However, if you think that the article would be better off focusing on unique city issues, or the other aspects that you've mentioned, you're more than welcome to change things. Keep in mind that the article received two "B" ratings upon being updated to its current state a few months ago, so it's not exactly in bad shape. But again, if you'd like to make some changes, that's up to you. Having done a lot of work on it, though, I simply request that you not remove too much of what's there. I read your reply and respect the fact that you feel strongly about what you mentioned.

"Urban Fantasy CAN be paired with other subgenres and isn't mutually exclusive, but without the city mentioned as a major feature of the story in the genre, it really doesn't count as Urban Fantasy."

As stated, I don't know if the city itself plays a major role in every urban fantasy out there, or in all of the books mentioned in the article. I only know that those books are considered urban fantasies (and defined as such by the sources) because they happen to take place in cities. It may be as simple as that in certain cases -- regardless of our personal opinions as to how it should be.

As mentioned, if you'd like to improve the article by researching the sources within, or overhauling the page in the ways that you've discussed, I wish you well. It sounds like you have a pretty clear vision. -- James26 (talk) 23:25, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi! You weighed in a few years ago when I mentioned adding in info about the SOS on the Sailor Moon articles. A few people are trying to add in the SOS info, saying that they were responsible for the series being dubbed. I changed the article to reflect that these were only things they claimed they were responsible for & I'm kind of expecting a bit of an argument about it. Edit request dated 2nd October on the "Kiss" Talk page

Hi Hitsuji Kinno!

I’m the person who made the edit request regarding the Indian “origins” of kissing on the 2nd of October 2013, which Stfg saw to on the 6th of the same month.

I’ve had reason to check up on this page and these kind of things in general on Wikipedia. If you go to the Talk page of the Wikipedia article “Man”, you’ll be able to read all about it. Let me give it to you in short. There is a group (a large one at that) of Indians who indulge in boosterism (as I’ve learnt to call it) on the net in general and Wikipedia in particular. The idea is solely to claim India as the origin of a whole gamut of things without any real scholarship at all to back those claims or very poor scholarship (when there is ambiguity). Furthermore, they will not argue rationally and will literally stop at nothing to propagate what they wish to be known to the world at large.

Now, let’s get to the “kiss” issue. Citation No. 5, which was in the article when I’d made the request, did not mention the Vedas. Citation No. 6 on the present page does mention what you say. Firstly, the West in general misunderstands India, and what is not understood too well is often glorified. Traditional Indians don’t know when to begin dating their texts; they were either there right from the beginning of the universe (I’m not kidding!) or date to some hoary antiquity which you and I can’t imagine. The discovery of the Indus Valley Civilization brought western historians to about the date 1500 BC for the composition of the Rig Veda (and hence the start of the Aryan period in India). It is acknowledged that the last of the four Vedas, the Atharva Veda, was composed in about 1000 BC, the Yajur Veda about 1200 BC and the Sama Veda somewhere between the Rig Veda and the Yajur Veda. It is also universally accepted that the four Vedas were composed before any of the other (numerous) works. The impression that the line you have quoted gives is that there were four texts from 1500 BC which talk about kissing. Even if I am wrong here, the fact remains that Citation No. 6 does not give any lines from the texts which would verify this. I have read parts of the Rig Veda and I did come across a few lines exhorting men and women to copulate in the sunshine (or something like that, if I remember correctly), but nothing about kissing per se. The lines from the Song of Solomon have been quoted in the Wikipedia article and the sources are genuine sources (one primary and the other a published secondary one). Surely Citation No. 6 cannot be taken seriously. It’s basically another ten-slide affair, with no citations of its own. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is not the kind of citation which Wikipedia should have to offer the general public.

It’s also a matter of commonsense and rationality, if you really think about it. Kissing would rank, in my opinion, along with some other human achievements (like language, agriculture, etc.) which could be called basic/natural, in that it would be absurd to try to trace them to a single common source. These things developed in different places along different lines and at different times. It seems ridiculous to state that the Greeks and Romans had to wait till they heard of kissing from India. (Ovid's "Art of Love" predates the Kamasutra by at least two centuries!) And what about the Egyptians, who have an attested history going back to 3000 BC and who gave us the modern romantic notion of the wedding ring? Also, given that (i) the use of the mouth to taste, and (ii) the fact that the genitals in human beings are so located that intercourse would naturally lead to licking, sucking and kissing are both biological notions that are probably as old as the human race, wouldn’t it again be ludicrous to think that only a mere two to three millenia ago (which is 0.1% of the history of the human race as we know it today), people started to kiss, and that too in one geographical location? India, Greece, Ancient Rome and Egypt are all either tropical countries or close enough to the tropics. It would make more sense that peoples living in frigid conditions (like the Eskimos) would have felt the need to indulge in kissing out of sheer necessity (both as a means of increasing body warmth and as a reminder that one is not alone in a harsh Arctic land).

Basically, one should be careful in today’s internet world, where everybody has a lot to say but very, very little of it is of any worth. I repeat: 1) I believe that the claims do not hold water; 2) The purported “lines” from the texts are neither quoted nor are the “source citations” convincing to any degree; 3) I believe that this is part of Indian boosterism, either by Indians themselves or non-Indians who don't really know much about India. If you read what is there on the Talk page of “Man” and check Jimmy Wales’ Talk page (where I brought it to his notice sometime in mid-October; it would be in one of the archives by now), you’ll get a better picture of what I have to say. Mr. Wales himself wasn’t interested and neither were the editors who responded (in the large), but I happen to be Indian and living in India. I know what’s happening. I see either falsehoods or exceedingly ambiguous notions being reported in the newspapers or on Indian websites which can more often than not be traced to Wikipedia. And Indians then take great pride in these things, which only contribute to their store of accumulated hubris. It's okay to be proud of things that are true, but not when they're not. A lot of the latter happens in India, probably more so than in any other country.

I'm not Indian for the record, and you have to just realize there is a page 2. It's just a little tech savvy. Restore it. Because you can't link to page 2. I'm 100% sure it's there. I cross referenced the sources too. And it's from a reputable website, discovery.com, who runs several documentaries, written by someone who is clearly not indian, if you actually bothered to look at the reference. I'd recommend looking at the dots at the bottom of the page I referenced and clicking on the shiny next one. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. Hi!

I saw your comment on the Rashomon talk page where you wrote the following:

"The story is often praised as being among the greatest in Japanese literature." - Western or Eastern Influences, Japanese, both or overall? Make it clear because the movie Rashomon didn't have consistent feedback from both countries

This got me wondering, what was the response to the movie in the East or in Japan specifically? I know the film is highly regarded in the West, but I wasn't aware there was a different response in the East/Japan so that got me curious.
