Unprotection of The Exodus

Back in March you fully protected The Exodus for edit warring. That seems to have died down, but we have since become aware of several small issues (badly worded sentences, a typo that produces a wrong reference, and so on) that should be fixed. Would you consider unprotecting the article? Huon (talk) 11:47, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Five

Stop by for a tasty glass of wiki-iced tea at the Teahouse, today!

Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
  • More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
  • Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
  • New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
  • Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.

As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

SA

You've made two administrative alterations to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stephanie Adams (3rd nomination), both no doubt well intended but both a bit surprising. First, Protected Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stephanie Adams (3rd nomination): Persistent sock puppetry. I hadn't noticed any. Yes, there've been two (short and polite) edits by one questioned user (a user who'd be unaffected by semi-protection); but anything else? Secondly, when you say removed a blp vio please do not revert and Please do not make personal attacks about the subject of the article, you seem to be identifying the (paying or non-paying) paymaster as the subject of the article, which (I think) says something a lot worse about the latter than did the comment (about the former) that you deleted. -- Hoary (talk) 07:20, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

I will answer your two questions
  1. I protected the AfD to the extensive history of socking in the subject area, the fact that the talk page is semied, and the call for meatpupet that would need to be dealt with anyway.
  2. Inferring that the subject of the article is "deadbeat" is a BLP vio. The post I removed had nothing to do with the paymaster. here is the diff if you are wondering

My user page

Greetings, Do you think you could fix this? I don't mean to sound like a jerk but I'm getting tired of looking at this big pink banner and pointy message every time I go to edit my User page and I can't change it myself. Plus its not really appropriate. Thanks in advance. Kumioko (talk) 01:20, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

David1217 What I've done 04:53, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Guerillero, I was recently blocked for the edit warring but the other party avoided this by simply deleting the notice from his talk page. In fact, User:Mbinebri has breached Wikipedia guidelines two times: 1) started the edit warring and violated the reverting rule on 14-15 August. 2) deleted the blocking warning from his talk page 2 times to conceal the deed. I am not contesting my blocking but at least I want the same treatment as the other party. Regards. JackofDiamonds1 (talk) 01:05, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Your block had nothing to do with the courtesy notification you got explaining edit warring. You can remove it at any time per WP:Blanking I was only looking at the article history. --Guerillero | My Talk 03:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
That's fine but the User:Mbinebri has been edit warring on 14-15 August on that page and escaped the blocking. JackofDiamonds1 (talk) 19:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
Its almost a week after the fact and it was three days afterwords when I blocked you, the statute of limitations passed by. I will not be blocking them. --Guerillero | My Talk 01:24, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, it's your call. Just letting you know that it was this user, who started edit warring and the other guy you blocked was just a follower. JackofDiamonds1 (talk) 18:11, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

AN/I

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Mark Arsten (talk) 02:11, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Guerillero,

Sorry for bothering you, but the page of Aliya Mustafina is current protected due to some edit wars going on between JackofDiamonds1 & Mbinebri, no one could edit or make corrections to the page.

I've found some recent updates for Aliya Mustafina, I've previously made changes to her height(from 1.60m to 1.62m) but didn't have the info for her weight at that time. I do have a link via this website: http://sg.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/gymnastics/aliya-mustafina-1014366/ showing that her weight is now 51kg/112lb instead of 48kg/110lb on her profile.

If you have time and if you regard this info is correct, please make the changes as there were people looking for her weight before and made comments on Mustafina's talk page.

Thank you for taking time to read this massage.

Deletion of tag is an accidental mistake due to my keyboards problem.Actually what happened was i have pressed the enter button to enter a template into File:Rebel teaser.ogv file namespace but the action done by my keyboard was back spacing the template.I have purchased a new keyboard yesterday, so there will be no such accidental mistakes in future. So please permit me as a File mover.Thank you for reading with patience.Raghusri (talk) Raghusri 19:58, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Moving Burma to Myanmar - ongoing poll

This is to let you know that an ongoing poll is taking place to move Burma to Myanmar. I know this happened just recently but no administrator would close these frequent rm's down, so here we go again. This note is going out to wikipedia members who have participated in Burma/Myanmar name changing polls in the past. It does not include banned members nor those with only ip addresses. Thank you. Hello, Guerillero. Could I ask you to take another look at the 76.31.236.81 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) account? I have reason to believe he was accidentally blocked. If you could at least consider lifting the talk page restriction so we can work on getting him back on his feet, that would be gracious of you. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 20:08, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

I can not restore talk page access. The user in question has been checkuser-verified as a sockpuppet of an indeffed editor with a history of misusing his talk page and editing privileges. Sorry. --Guerillero | My Talk 21:08, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. How can I confirm that is true? The user maintains he has never used another account. Viriditas (talk) 21:29, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Contact a CU yourself if you would like to verify, I guess. --Guerillero | My Talk 21:41, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Could you tell me the name of the checkuser in this case? I will contact them. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 21:54, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Could you add the "you've got mail" template to my talk page after you've sent it? Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 22:17, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the email. Viriditas (talk) 23:52, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Guerillero, I talked with the user who as it turns out, already talked with the checkuser, so I would rather not bother the CU again with the same questions he's already answered! :) Since I now have those answers, I would like to know if you would consider lifting the block. There does not appear to be any direct evidence linking the three accounts, but rather very weak circumstantial evidence based on an erroneous interpretation of their behavior. In other words, I agree with you in that it does look like the same user if you avoid looking into this too deeply. Therefore, your decision to block was sound. However, everyone makes mistakes, and I believe in this case, 76.31.236.81 got caught up in the dispute. If you would be willing to lay some groundwork for his return as a user in good standing (registering an account) etc. that would be helpful. In other words, we don't have good evidence that 76.31.236.81 is User:SkepticAnonymous or User:98.195.86.32. If we did, I would not be requesting his unblock. Viriditas (talk) 23:15, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

I am going over this decision with a few other admins. I will get back to you soon --Guerillero | My Talk 01:53, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
The behavioral evidence is hard to outweigh. Jumping into a dispute with the same group is hard to push aside. The IRC channel part is a bit strange on many levels. After my consultation, I am going to let this expire in 18 hours. --Guerillero | My Talk 03:58, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Lendink

Graeme Bartlett (talk) 16:02, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

The Signpost: 27 August 2012

I am a complete noob at editing Wiki, and I have a quick question (famous last words, lol)

Mr. Guerillero,

Earlier today I decided to enter the world of editing a Wikipedia article. I must have done something wrong, because when I checked the entry, it had been completely removed, and less accurate information was put in its place. Maybe less accurate isn't the correct way to word it. Maybe the replacement attempt was to be more objective, however, I can assure you that there was nothing "accidental" about the LendInk take down. At any rate, I expected this, as this is how a person learns. FYI - The only reason I posted at all is because this was already old news. I find it kind of funny that after four days of not having the information up to date, the second I accurately depict the scenario, people are jumping all over it. My question is this - May I pick your brain? Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. Going forward, hopefully we may be able to communicate via chat, email, or forum of some kind.

Sincerely,
