The New Page Patroller's Barnstar | |
For over 100 article reviews during 2022. Thank you for patrolling new pages and helping us out with the backlog! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:05, 2 January 2023 (UTC) |
New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Govvy,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Re: Benny Girke
Hi, Govvy - having been away for a few days, I just realized I was a bit more curt at the (now closed) Benjamin Girke AfD than I'd intended. To expand just a little bit: Local and regional newspaper writing about amateur footballers in a SIGCOV-relevant fashion generally just isn't something that happens in Germany, and certainly not if there's no reason to cover them beyond their hobby. If their editors are short on content for the next issue, they're much more likely to fill the blank spaces with ads instead, because well, I think we're all vaguely aware where print's at in 2023. Now, that's obviously no ironclad guarantee that there really hasn't been any coverage of him, but searchable online newspaper archives are few and far between at the local level, to put it mildly, so you pretty much wind up just stubbing your toes at the limits of practicability here. Hope that's a little more helpful. Dr. Duh 🩺 (talk) 08:32, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
"Harry Kane" as top scorer
Thanks for restoring the version on the Tottenham Hotspur records article, but Harry Kane's article still says that he is the top scorer. Could you restore that article too? Mwiqdoh (talk) 10:31, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- I have a work meeting I am going out too soon, so it might not be done today. I kinda of edit wikipedia between small breaks at work, which I probably shouldn't be doing!! Regards Govvy (talk) 10:33, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Newcastle United
Not sure what's happening with this article between this and that over the dispute of relevant content or not... Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:31, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Iggy the Swan: I was trying to revert this dodgy edit, [1], regards. Govvy (talk) 19:17, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Good afternoon, from Portugal,
i'm actually undoing the actions of this blocked nuisance, NEVER talked to anyone during their spell here, met their wiki-demise early this month i believe. From there onwards, they have already "contributed" through tons of IPs, i have reported them all, and they all were blocked.
No worries, vandal's version stays in Jonny (footballer)! Attentively 2001:8A0:7643:2400:19F9:D2:685D:B94A (talk) 18:29, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- @2001:8A0:7643:2400:19F9:D2:685D:B94A: I am not sure what you're on about, an unverified sock? Anyway I am just reverting you on Johnny which seems like a perfectly valid link from the official website. Regards. Govvy (talk) 18:34, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Yes sir, sockpuppetry through IPs, you can check User:Mattythewhite's talk where several addresses are reported (then blocked). Regarding the link in Jonny, indeed it is valid because it's an official club profile that does not appear anywhere else in the article.
Regards back, sorry for any inconvenience --2001:8A0:7643:2400:19F9:D2:685D:B94A (talk) 18:38, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- I was sure I'd seen similar editing like that before, back on 17 February to be precise, when a link I identified as "appropriate" was reverted. Nonetheless, I will also take the above information to my knowledge too -- attentively, Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:53, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

Firstly, your maths is wrong, 49 + 5 does not equal 51 (amongst other examples). Secondly, you are double counting the play-off matches which Soccerway displays as 'league' but they are not (they are already displayed in the 'other' column). GiantSnowman 14:03, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- @GiantSnowman: What are you on about? He played 15 league games in 2021 and 34 in 2022 for Waterford, that equals 49, are you going to fix it or not? Govvy (talk) 14:15, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- I've already explained the situation with playoffs - see these edits by @Supersaints2014:. GiantSnowman 14:19, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Nirvana
Here are some band members who are not sourced (or their years of inclusion are not sourced, or their instruments are not sourced) in the article: Lori Goldston, Chad Channing, Jason Everman. There are others. I don't need to list all of them here. Please either add citations to confirm all of the details of all members, or remove them from the list and adjust the timeline accordingly. I'm not keen on removing everything so I can accept your revert for now, but I do expect WP:V to be respected. I'm challenging anything that is not fully sourced, so WP:V applies for that information. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 15:44, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Sundayclose: Lori Goldston, (cite:72) Chad Channing, (cites:14, 173), Jason Everman (cite:18), there are covered by citations from prose. Govvy (talk) 15:48, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Where is it cited that Smear performed backing vocals? There are others. Again, everything in the list needs to be sourced. Please fix the list and timeline. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 15:55, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Sundayclose: Why should I fix anything? All I see and from my point of view, is that you're just being disruptive! Also there is a talk page for every article, if you have problems with something post there. Regards. Govvy (talk) 15:59, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- If you don't want to provide the citations, that's entirely up to you. But don't restore uncited information. Requesting citations is not a policy violation. Restoring uncited material is a policy violation if you've been asked not to do so. Sundayclose (talk) 16:01, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Sundayclose: Leave me alone and stop doing editing which appears disruptive. Govvy (talk) 16:02, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- I placed a refimprove tag on the section. We'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. I'll leave you alone if you don't violate policies again. Sundayclose (talk) 16:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

AIV Report
I see that you never warned TraackerTrxxs before submitting an AIV report against them. AirmanKitten203 (talk) 14:06, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- @AirmanKitten203: No you don't need to warn people about that, doesn't matter first warning, or final warning, if you feel you see inappropriate behaviour you can report any IP or user without warning them. Govvy (talk) 15:49, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Ad Orientem: I saw that TraackerTrxxs created the now deleted page Placeholder00. Bit of an odd account, very old with some interesting editing, and I don't think it's a primary account, but someone's sub-account. Regards. Govvy (talk) 15:49, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Warnings are almost always expected before an admin will block. The rare exceptions are outlined in WP:ZT. -Ad Orientem (talk) 16:05, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Not updating 2022–23 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season
Sorry for not updating it, I just was not in the mood because of that embarassing game. I never turn the TV off before the game finishes (no matter how badly we are losing), so that was the longest 90 minutes of my life. What a fucking disgrace. Mwiqdoh (talk) 08:52, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Mwiqdoh: I am not sure why you are sorry to me, but I understand your frustration with Tottenham. Govvy (talk) 10:46, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
The background section
The background section is needed to give readers background information for the season. It gives information on how they qualified to the season's UCL, how Conte was appointed, etc. It's all relevant to this season. Mwiqdoh (talk) 10:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Mwiqdoh: Stick to the key points, don't need a separate heading for background. Tottenham finished last season in a certain place, so qualified for the Champions league. Manager change from last season doesn't need to be mentioned this season. Tottenham started the campaign with who in charge, doesn't need a why. Simple, neutral and to the point. :/ Govvy (talk) 10:52, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
1991–92 Kilmarnock F.C. season
Regarding the 1991–92 Kilmarnock F.C. season, there is some significant coverage on Newspapers.com. I´ve added a couple from the Kilmarnock Standard and Irvine Herald and Kilwinning Chronicle to the article. There is also more from the Standard from 9 August (they had several pages dedicated to the beginning of the season)[2][3]. During the DRV, I think I found another source from a third paper either from the start of the season or the end (probably july/august) that would hopefully solify a GNG pass but I can't remember for the life of me where it was (either Newspapers.com or The British Newspaper Archive). I'll take a better look tonight and see if I can't find it again. Alvaldi (talk) 12:03, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hiya, thanks for that, there are a fair number of sources on the article, so I am a little confused by the deletion. Will get to tidying it up as I can. Govvy (talk) 21:23, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Seems to have been a disagreement of whether match reports alone were enough for to prove notability a season. Personally I think that if a team gets detailed coverage of each aspect of the season (matches, transfers etc.) then that season should probably qualify for a separate article (as I argued in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1987–88 Kilmarnock F.C. season). That said, not everyone agrees so it never hurts having a couple of sources discussing the season as a whole as it should be enough for the article to avoid AfD.
- By the way, the Nearly men! article has a list at the bottom with all the players who appeared in a match during the season. Alvaldi (talk) 09:11, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Lycurgus Burrows
Hello. There isn't much, I'm afraid. The Arsenal Who's Who is actually available online at https://archive.org/details/inlibrary , you should be able to see the page with his details HERE without an account. If you create an account, you get full access to read whole books, not just search snippets. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:49, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
