Question from RI-spaceman (11:53, 21 October 2023)[edit]
Hello and thanks for mentoring. I am joining primarily to correct an error on my Wiki page. They have me as dead; died on October 13, 2023. I am not dead, and the error is sweeping through the social networks and causing problems and concern. Obviously, no one verified the "fact" that I am deceased, because I am not. What can I do to make the correction faster than waiting a few weeks? --RI-spaceman (talk) 11:53, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Is it possible that I could make an article about a person that I know? They have contributed extraordinarily to the internet. --Care3much (talk) 00:56, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- Care3much, we welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with people you write about, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, etc.
- propose articles through the requested articles process
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI)
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Recent changes
- The Structured Content team, as part of its project of improving UploadWizard on Commons, made some UX improvements to the upload step of choosing own vs not own work (T347590), as well as to the licensing step for own work (T347756).
- The Design Systems team has released version 1.0.0 of Codex, the new design system for Wikimedia. See the full announcement about the release of Codex 1.0.0.
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 November. It will be on all wikis from 2 November (calendar).
- Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [2][3]
- Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [4]
Future changes
- There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. You can help by reviewing this proposal and sharing what you think about it.
- The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.

November Articles for creation backlog drive[edit]

Hello Frostly:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

Question from Ainsley3139 (16:48, 2 November 2023)[edit]
Hi, I want to make a page about myself for fun I have a picture of me to add but I tried to debit myself and got no where... is there any other way to do it? I thought it would be so simple like creating a website... it might be but I'm not seeing the easiness of it --Ainsley3139 (talk) 16:48, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Ainsley3139, Wikipedia isn't a web host; if you're looking to create a website, you can ask for some suggestions of hosting services at the reference desk.
If you want to contribute to Wikipedia, though, and would like to write a bit about yourself, you can create a user page: see here for instructions. Warmly, — Frostly (talk) 23:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from AliceInWikiland 7c7 (12:21, 29 November 2023)[edit]
Hello!
I have a question regarding the content I added to https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=List_of_Outlander_episodes
If you look at the 'Short summary' entries for the earlier seasons (not by me), they are not all that short, and contain multiple spoilers. For my entries in Season 7, I've opted for a briefer and (in general) spoiler-free summary.
Obviously spoilers abound on articles dedicated to specific episodes, and even short summaries which do not spoil the episode they summarise may nonetheless spoil earlier episodes (I did this for my summary of S07E03, for example). But does Wiki have a specific policy on this, or is this just a matter of taste?
Best, AliceInWikiland 7c7 --AliceInWikiland 7c7 (talk) 12:21, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- AliceInWikiland 7c7, welcome to Wikipedia! Spoilers are allowed on Wikipedia; see this page for more info. Best, — Frostly (talk) 19:31, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Now, this newsletter is technically not new, but I have only recently become aware of its existence and am only a month late, so it still counts. Wikiproject Fungi's Lichen task force has a new newsletter that is very nicely formatted and also features much better writing than this newsletter. Growth team newsletter #29[edit]

Welcome to the twenty-ninth newsletter from the Growth team! Help with translations
Community Conversations[edit]
The Growth team will host its first community conversation Monday, 4 December (19:00 - 20:30 UTC). The topic for this meeting will be Mentorship.
This first meeting language will be English, but we plan to host conversations in other languages, and about other topics. Please visit the conversation page on-wiki for the details on how to join. You can also watch the page, or suggest ideas for upcoming conversations there.
Impact Module[edit]
At the beginning of November 2023, the Growth team deployed the New Impact Module to all Wikipedias. We recently released a follow up improvement to how edit data was displayed based on editor feedback. [25]
Add a Link[edit]
We released “add a link” to 35 more Wikipedias. [26] [27]
We have a few Wikipedias remaining:
- German and English Wikipedia will be contacted at the beginning of January 2024.
- There are a few small wikis that will not receive the task until they have enough articles for the algorithm to work properly.
Community Configuration[edit]
- We shared Community Configuration 2.0 plans with technical stakeholders. [28] 🖂
- Initial Community Configuration design ideas have been shared and discussed with community members.
- A basic Community Configuration 2.0 demo is released on ToolForge.
- Developers can find some initial proof of concept code shared on gitlab.
Mentorship[edit]
When a mentor marked themselves as "Away", they were not getting their name assigned to new accounts when they returned. This has been fixed. [29]
We improved the message received by newcomers when their mentor quits, to reduce confusion. [30]
We worked on ensuring that all mentees are assigned to an active mentor. This required reassigning mentees with no mentors to a new mentor. We paused this as the clean-up script confused some editors. We will resume it when the identified blockers are resolved. [31]
It is now possible to create an Abuse Filter to prevent one user from signing up as a mentor. [32]

Question from Bonbonzilla (04:03, 6 December 2023)[edit]
Hello there Frostly! I wanted to thank you for volunteering to become a mentor, and also to ask you a question.
On the page for Body Image, I decided to cut out most of the 'History' section because I felt it wasn't relevant to the actual section and the article. Can you please review my edit and tell me if it was called for? Thank you for your time, and for listening! --Bonbonzilla (talk) 04:03, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Bonbonzilla, welcome to Wikipedia! I would personally include the information inside the article, as I think that it might be relevant as context. Some of the information regarding beauty standards could be connected to body image as well. I would ask the folks at WikiProject Psychology if you'd like a third opinion! Sincerely, — Frostly (talk) 06:22, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
