NZ general election 1975[edit]

Re the NZ general election articles; the Waitakere electorate was replaced by Henderson (with Martyn Finlay as MP) for 1969, 1972 & 1975 (see Norton pages 375 & 376). Hence I have removed the references to Waitakere in the article on the 1975 general election. Hugo999 (talk) 10:27, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Tamaki by-election 1992[edit]

Hi. I have been conducting research on OECD politics. As part of my research, I obtained elections data for the Tamaki by-election in 1992 directly from the NZ Electoral Commission. I have added these results to your article. I thought you may have been interested, so I figured I'd drop you a note on your talk page. Please feel free to clean up my templating work, and if you do manage to find the given names of the candidates for which I had only family names, that'd be great. Cheers. 2607:F010:2E9:1:9CD0:A41F:2317:3F4C (talk) 16:48, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand COVID-19 cases[edit]

Hello Fanx, Rebestalic here again

As you can see in the New Zealand field in the Coronavirus template, New Zealand recoveries have now exceeded confirmed cases. What should we do?

That is strange ... but it is a consequence of NZ's counting confirmed and probable cases, without any clear definition of whether any probables become confirmed or are excluded as false positives. The only solution I can think of is expanding the footnote for the NZ part of the template to explain this apparent discrepancy. I've not been active on the Covid-19 pages lately ... with an acquaintance of a family member succumbing in the UK, and having friends working in the Belgian and Spanish health services it's become just a bit too depressing. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

March 2024[edit]

Information icon Hi Fanx! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of American Truck Simulator several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:American Truck Simulator, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. I've semi-protected both articles due to the disruption from IPs and new accounts. That won't stop you though, so please don't force me to have to consider a partial block here. The talk page is where you need to be discussing the issue.. -- ferret (talk) 13:14, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stay clear of edit warring, Fanx. Getting blocked is just not worth it. Schwede66 17:50, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to have to disagree on that point Schwede. Sometimes taking a stand is 'worth it' - in spite of the cost to oneself. It used to be that you and I would fight ignorant outside interference in a project we'd both worked on. When we stopped being able to stand up against The Borg I had to walk away. I don't ever want to find myself having to surrender to the supposedly well-meaning bullies again. 23:31, 17 March 2024 (UTC) Fanx (talk) 23:31, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is demonstrably false, and hypocritical. We have one editor that has made three reverts so I'd suggest you take up with them, and discuss their refusal to engage in consensus building. FYI - I do not have a "preferred version" of the article - I'm just opposed to that 'refusal to engage in consensus' that is just dogmatic & browbeating. 19:59, 17 March 2024 (UTC) Fanx (talk) 19:59, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, I did not restore until after two other editors had their restorations reverted by the article's singular edit-warrior. Try reading the article's history - I'm not the problem here. 20:08, 17 March 2024 (UTC) Fanx (talk) 20:08, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You restored content against guidelines, without a stated reason beyond an attack on the editor who was removing it. The other two editors restored it without any reason whatsoever. While it's not great that Soetermans continued to revert, you then reverted another editor (Woodroar, again with attacks on their character), and only stopped when a third (Melodia) reverted you again. My goal here is to stop the mainspace edit war, without resorting to ECP/Full protection or a partial block for anyone. If you don't have a 'preferred version', then you can certainly wait for any discussions to play out. -- ferret (talk) 20:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How are discussions supposed to play out when I would be talking to no-one but myself? If I've found the other editor does not engage in consensus building then to pursue such would be futile and farcical. Your suggestion doesn't make a lot of sense. Suggesting that disingenuous claims about sources are in fact disingenuous is not an attack on character - it's a simple statement of fact. I do agree that the page needs work (my not having a "preferred version" solely relates to the versions in discussion - a better article would be my preference), but the shredding of it in a contrived rage manner is not a productive way forward. 23:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC) Fanx (talk) 23:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I won't trouble you further, but I see at least 2 other editors engaged on the talk page, and one more that has supported the edit without commenting. -- ferret (talk) 00:30, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. 06:16, 18 March 2024 (UTC) Fanx (talk) 06:16, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
