Hi, I'd like to work on Princess Princep Shah of Nepal as I understand it (I could be wrong, this is a first) I need to ask for deleteion review to re-open it and I need to notify you because you closed it. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Princess Princep Shah of Nepal Of course the close was sensible, no arguments to keep came forward, but I think she passes WP:ANYBIO so I think I need to do the deletion review. None of this is a criticism of you, you did the obvious close. So I hope this is not a pain.

Discussion should start here: Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2022_August_4

Block[edit]

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for personal attacks and edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  El_C 02:46, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Look, Davey, you've lost your shit like a million times and been warned about that also like a million times. And while I recognize that you've been doing it less lately, which is good, and that, crucially, your attacks are rarely if ever truly egregious or mean-spirited — even still, telling us that this is just the way you are, is not good enough. Telling us to expect more attacks in the future, even if at a low frequency, that is likewise not good enough. I mean, I appreciate the honesty, but the concern is twofold: 1. Driving users away, maybe not from the project itself, but from various pages. Users may not want to challenge or correct you, even when it's due, simply for not wishing to deal with you potentially going off on them. 2. Related to that is the seeming random nature of the outbursts. It's one thing for these to happen as a consequence of getting worn down by a longstanding, intractable dispute. But it's wholly another for it to seemingly come out of nowhere, over changes that seem relatively unimportant (i.e. the capricious and unpredictable nature of the attacks makes them, or their specter, worse).

Briefly on the specific dispute: neither one of you have consensus, which is now something to be determined. That you didn't notice the change for nearly 2 years, that's on you. Your opponent enjoyed WP:SILENTCONSENSUS throughout much of that time, until you objected, at which point it evaporated. In that sense, neither one of you has an edge over the other wrt consensus. Though I do note that your opponent was edit warring over an image that they, themselves, had uploaded — which can be a red flag, but I don't view as an immediate problem in this instance.

Anyway, obviously I didn't indef you, but I do feel that there needs to be some consequence. Which includes having a record of the misconduct in the block log. I suppose you could argue that's it's a punitive block, but from my perspective, warning you yet again would be giving you tacit license to attack folks with impunity (and again, somewhat randomly/unpredictably). Which is just too WP:UNBLOCKABLE for me. The negative atmosphere it cultivates, by potentially pushing users away from challenging you in the course of normal collaboration — that kind of chilling effect is a problem. It's a problem when folks know there'll be no consequences for you when you attack them, save perhaps yet another warning. So, I'm sorry (truly), but no more warnings. Now it's this. El_C 02:46, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @El C, That's fair enough, I'll be honest for whatever reason (and as explained on ockstone35s talkpage) I did forget about the whole silent consensus thing, Had I remembered about it I would've stopped edit warring much much sooner but still at the end of the day had I not edit warred I still would've been blocked anyway,
I also feel I should mention that I've never once believed I was unblockable never - But at the end of the day I was uncivil and I was fairly blocked for it.
Anyway could I be a pain and ask that the block be changed to Personal attacks and edit warring please? Harassment implies I've followed someone around or kept bugging someone constantly when I haven't, Thanks and thank you for your detailed explanation, Have a great day, Thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 11:49, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hey. Thanks man. Briefly, that's just the default drop-down menu option. So, if we look at your own block log, for example, we can see:
18:32, 6 May 2020 Ivanvector talk contribs block blocked Davey2010 talk contribs with an expiration time of 24 hours (account creation blocked) (Personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy) (unblock change block)
10:46, 21 July 2018 Nick talk contribs block blocked Davey2010 talk contribs with an expiration time of 24 hours (account creation blocked) (Personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy) (unblock change block)
Hope that clears things up. Thanks again. Cheers! El_C 13:58, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hey @El C, I swear it never used to say that otherwise I would've had a problem with that 4 years ago lol, Not really happy with it but guess I can query it once I'm unblocked, Anyway thanks for clearing that up and thanks for your help, Take care and have a great day, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 17:20, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No worries. Personally, I'd emphasize on it being phrased as Personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy, as opposed to Personal attacks and violations of the harassment policy, if that makes sense. Thanks, hope you have a good weekend. P.S. I'm looking for my cat, Juno, let me know if you see her anywhere. El_C 17:53, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@El C, Ah true yep that makes sense mate, In my little head I sort of see it as if someone randomly stumbles on my name, views my contribs and then sees my block (or checks out my block log) - they're going to assume I've either been blocked for personal attacks or harassment .... I dunno maybe I'm caring too much, I guess I just dont want it to appear that I've been blocked for harassment when that's not the case, Anyway that's a discussion for 3-4 days lol,
I'll leave you in peace and harmony now lol, Thanks will do and you have a great weekend too El_C, Haha that did make me laugh :), Take care, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 18:27, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:LDV Convoy orange lights (rear).jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:LDV Convoy orange lights (rear).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 04:28, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Removal of file deletion tag[edit]

Regarding this exchange, Marchjuly is correct. As the uploader, you cannot remove the deletion tag. You may dispute it, and you may post on the tagger's talk page as you did, but you should not remove it. It even has that in big bold letters. -- Whpq (talk) 04:03, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Whpq, In all fairness I never read anything after "These vehicles are still in use. No proper explanation as to why this image is not replaceable" but once you replied depending on what you were going to say I was either going to FFD them or CSD them - Given your reply on your talkpage my next action would've been to CSD them as you know a lot more about images and NFCC then I ever could,
Obviously there's means and ways of doing things but the "keeping" of those images was never going to be a permanent thing - As I said I didn't want the images deleted before you replied which was the only reason I was insistent of the tags being kept off the files but as I said once you replied I would've then done something about them, I appreciate neither you or MJ would'e known that and I should've also stated that on your talkpage and in the editsum instead of immediately becoming so defensive,
Anyway I apologise for the unintentional disruption that I caused, Thanks again for your help it's always greatly appreciated, Many Thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 12:51, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Many thanks for the heads up @BD2412, As much as I want to help out there I'm not going to waste my time on this article just for some anti-porn admin to nominate it in 2 years time and it gets deleted again. Of course any article could be deleted after it's been sourced but ''that'' admin won't stop till it's deleted so respectfully I'd rather not waste my time with it, But thanks for the heads up I greatly appreciate it, Many thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 23:45, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re. Waterloo Road split discussion[edit]

I was sorry to see that you didn't approve of my decision to close the split discussion at Talk:Waterloo Road (TV series). As I stated in the result, revisiting the discussion could be fruitful after the BBC has made some announcement on the future of the series, and that might be an opportune time for you to open a new split discussion, if you think that is the best way forward. _MB190417_ (talk) 12:39, 5 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @MB190417, I'll be honest I disagree with your close - If anything I felt there ''was'' consensus to move, I also disagreed with the fact you had !voted Support in that discussion and then closed it as No consensus, But apparently I'm the one that cares so meh, I'll start a new RFC at some point, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 13:36, 5 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Temu flag fixes[edit]

Hi, I have posted Talk:Temu (company)#Request for more clean up and removing flag to ask for fixes to the page about Temu (company), the most downloaded app in the United States the last few months. [1] These tiny fixes address the last issues needed to remove the flag. . I have a conflict of interest as an employee of Temu and I would very much appreciate it if you might have time to take a look. Since you are a member of the WikiProject for Internet Culture, I thought you might possibly be interested in this internet cultural moment. [2], [3]. This page is in need of careful expansion in compliance with Wikipedia policy (and there is plenty of press coverage) but getting rid of the last tiny policy violations is a good place to start.

Thanks in advance for your consideration! Snowy2000 (talk) 02:09, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

Commons-emblem-notice.svg

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Buses[edit]

Hi Davey2010 - just wanted to make sure you knew that when I said "you" I didn't mean you personally. I am just a little concerned with the current trend of people (imho needlessly) deleting articles all over the place. Someone just tried to delete Automotive timeline navboxes, I am sure a bunch of bus articles are next for the chopping block. Usually deletion discussions are not noticed until three editors have voted to delete, and to undelete can be near impossible.  Mr.choppers | ✎  00:05, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Mr.choppers, My apologies I did think you meant me personally, In regards to that I've sent you an email, It certainly is a shame that's all I'll say, Anyway hope you're well, Kind Regards –Davey2010Talk 13:56, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

May 2023[edit]

Please familiarise your self with WP:SANDWICH that states: Multiple images can be staggered right and left. However, avoid sandwiching text between two images that face each other; or between an image and infobox. Addung images immediately to the left of the infobox as you are seeking to do is contrary to this section of the Manual of Style. Kermelei (talk) 02:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's common for article text to be sandwiched there's not a lot one can do about it. I find it hilarious though that not only do you have this massive issue with galleries but now you have issues with one files too apparently. Either way take it to the talkpage and get consensus for your changes. –Davey2010Talk 11:23, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image reversion rationale[edit]

@Davey2010 To avoid potentially triggering WP:3RR and to hopefully get a bit of clarity, could you please explain your rationale in reverting this and so many other bus articles' images to prior versions?

I'll outline mine first: I personally believe that Wikipedia pages of buses should have, if they exist, in-service photos of the buses with their first operator and in as best physical state as possible. In this article's case, I say preserved buses stand as an adequate equivalent, too. As-new photographs (or photos in as-new condition) highlight elements of the bus as they were intended by the manufacturer shortly after it rolled out the factory. In my opinion, they also help provide context for the history of the bus type - i.e. by demonstrating them with the operator they were most commonly used by at the time they were relatively new.

I don't see why, therefore, we seemingly can't part with the images as they now stand here. Why the insistence of sticking with photos from 2006-2009 and onwards from when the buses were near the end of their service life/with second or third-hand operators, when new photos can be made available that better demonstrates them? And please, tell me what constitutes "fine", "better" or "no issue" in your edit summaries? What precedence does the photo of the back of a Paladin Dart have over a photo of a one-in-four Paladin Atlantean in this article?

Another point that I'd like to pick up on is that as a regular mobile user (i.e. both through browser on iPad and Wikipedia app on my phone), I'm very mindful of making these pages accessible for other mobile users. As @Kermelei also probably disputes, this image reorienting you have undertaken with this article, as well as on, say, Alexander ALX400 (why have you added a new image, by the way?), is causing quite a bit of sandwiching of the main body of text. I'll admit, I've done some arguably weird orienting of images on this article before, but that was to avoid sandwiching text between image and infobox and demonstrate the Atlantean rebody under its own heading. I'd just be mindful about that as you go on.

Again, all I ask is that you explain what it is you are trying to do without just leaving it in the edit summary as "past images were fine" or something as vague as that. What's the rationale, here? Why not allow these new images to stand? Hullian111 (talk) 06:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, In regards to the infobox - your image is too dark and you can't see a great deal whereas with the current one you can see the whole vehicle and it's obviously not dark
I apologise for removing the Leyland Atlantean image that was unintentional (I hadn't properly read the article so assumed it was just another image) - I've reinstated that image
As for sandwiching - What am I supposed to do ? ... I create a gallery and this guy removes it per WP:IG, So I add it to the text and now it's a sandwich issue and he has to remove them again. I've tried with him. Anyway I would care more over the sandwich issue if he wasn't all "removed gallery per IG". Yet again the ALX400 images were changed etc because of him - I had no real desire to add new images but was left with no option due to the article layout and him hating galleries –Davey2010Talk 11:42, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Now that I'm able to have the time to digest matters, I'll say that on the infobox image front... you raise a good point. I'll still try scouring for something from when the type was new, but I'll hopefully keep it in mind for the future.
The only real sticking point for me is the arrangement of images. Now I personally aren't a fan of galleries, either - there was once a particularly egregious example on the Humberside FRS page that eventually turned me against them in the end - and in their place, I'm in favour of a neat line-up of images that demonstrate variants of the bus type (though I'm also in favour of justifying imahes to the left in order to avoid an infobox, e.g. on Wright Eclipse Gemini). To take Alexander ALX400 as an example, I'm now sort-of seeing what you're trying to do by putting them underneath the relevant paragraphs, but having the images justified left and right all around the article kind of looks a bit messy and is prone to sandwiching on my end/smaller screens. Hence why I like to keep images on the right-hand side.
Would appreciate your feedback on the matter, hope it clarifies things so we can move on. Hullian111 (talk) 17:19, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
When it comes to image replacements I always stick to one question/rule of thumb: Is it a real improvement over the one I'm replacing ? If I think no then it doesn't get replaced (i'll be honest that's happened once or twice), I don't like changing images for the sake of it,
In regards to the 400 - I'll be completely honest I agree with you it does look a mess, Unfortunately with your version[4] the London bus was in the references section which is something I try to avoid,
This version kinda works but as none of the images are matching to the text imho it still looks messy,
Out of everything tried so far I would say specifically for the ALX400 article the gallery worked better (I didn't like the gallery either and was by no means a fan of it but out of everything we've tried so far it seemed to work better),
That's a fair point I didn't give smaller devices a think, You're more than welcome to play around with it but being totally honest I don't think we're going to come to an agreement and don't really know the best way to solve this issue, Many thanks, Kind Regards –Davey2010Talk 17:48, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, clarification was really what I was after, to be honest. But I agree that we've both got our own schools of thought and that we've got our own preferences image-wise. I've always tried to keep images out of references sections, and that's half the work of me updating articles with deliveries, so to hear the DAF ALX400 was one such image - for comparison's sake, my main desktop screen for editing is a MacBook Pro - was a bit of a surprise.
Suppose I'll see what I can do with the ALX400 page, then. Maybe the way that gallery was first formatted felt a bit off, I don't know - WP:3O might be an interesting route to potentially go down on the matter. With this Paladin article, I'm trying to get some more sources together to expand on the other chassis variants, so you might have some more work cut out for you there.
Consider the matter (largely?) resolved for now, regards, Hullian111 (talk) 18:34, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okie dokie, Thanks for coming here and discussing it it's much appreciated, Many thanks –Davey2010Talk 18:54, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To comment on the ALX400 revisions you've made since we've debated this - maybe we should've talked this over in your user talk, to be honest, this is getting a bit off-topic - I think the image layout looks quite satisfactory on my end. I'm a bit unsure still on the need for the pre-delivery Trident image, though. Maybe it could be replaced with an image of a Dublin Bus B7TL or, if you want to keep up consistency, this Trident? Hullian111 (talk) 20:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hullian111, I've moved it all here as actually thought we were on the ALX400 talkpage! :)
I'll be honest at the time of adding the ALX400 images (many moons ago) and even now I wanted to show the side as these all vary between models and I just thought it was an interesting thing to see but I guess being interesting and being notable are 2 different things,
I'm pleased you're happy with the edits but ofcourse you're more than welcome to make your own - I'll add the DubinBus image tomorrow as it'll give me something to focus on,
Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 22:24, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Note[edit]

Hi,

At this point, this is only just a suggestion. While Wikipedia is not censored, and we welcome lively collegiate debate, when commenting at AN/I, we tend to focus on calling out actions or behaviors. And calling someone a "coward", sounds like an attack to the person, and so, would seem to cross that line, and I'd like to respectfully suggest you might want to strike or refactor your comments. - jc37 00:32, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Jc37, I appreciate you taking the time to come here and politely ask me but with the upmost respect to yourself I'm afraid I'm declining your polite request,
The IP isn't a new user and didn't wonder to ANI randomly - I appreciate we aren't supposed to comment on individuals but I don't know what else you'd call someone who's making "The incivility is all the opposers fault" comments under an IP, The only genuine word I can think of to match that is "coward".
Despite that comment I'm genuinely not trying to cause more dramah but I wont sit here and allow comments such as "the vitriol being launched by some of those turning up here to defend TRM should be an issue as well" just because I opposed sanctions against TRM, I appreciate no names were mentioned but nonetheless I see it as a PA against myself. Have a great day JC, Kind Regards –Davey2010Talk 00:58, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You can still express all of that with most of your statement with out saying "...being a coward". There is a difference between calling one's actions "cowardly", and calling someone a "coward". And there are times, that that can be the difference between whether one gets sanctioned or not.
I chose to make this a suggestion here. But i'm not the only admin watching the discussion.
In any case, I hope you re-consider. - jc37 01:09, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I actually didn't think of "cowardly" but I've took your feedback on board and will (hopefully not) apply that in future, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"spammy author"[edit]

Hi, I see you removed a reference from John Wells (Royal Navy officer) with the edit summary "rm spammy author". What does this actually mean? I'm not immediately seeing why this author, who in this instance is published [5] by the academic Boydell & Brewer, should be removed? Happy to be corrected on why the author shouldn't be used if that's so, but please do a full job removing references if you're going to do it. Edits like [6] that remove the reference but not the inline citation just make the text/reference more confusing. Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:06, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Back in I believe 2019 this author had spammed his books across a lot of articles - He was doing this as IPs and under a named account all of whom got blocked.
You say "please do a full job removing references if you're going to do it" which has left me confused - There's no reference errors and nothing was relying on that book? so i'm baffled but if I've broken something I would be happy to fix it, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:14, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, thanks for the explanation. I won't comment on the other articles you've removed the author from, but I'm going to replace him in John Wells because I was the author that added him there - there was no IP or sock involved! Re the referencing confusion, I mean that you removed the full reference, but left the inline citation in the text. Thus, for example in John Wells, citation #13 is still in the text but now leads to nowhere and tells the reader nothing. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:16, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Unfortunately I don't know that - He was certainly on a mission back then, I feel I should add I wasn't calling you "spammy" or insinuating you were him,
Apologies I had indeed missed that - It's rare references are in that form these days so It's not something I actively remember but duly noted I'll try to remember that, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:23, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No problem, and I wasn't taking it personally! Thanks for the quick responses. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:56, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've spent the last 2 hours pleasing the community and trying to remove the whole whitespace and for what ? To be told my edits are useless and they're their the dumbest thing in history. Pathetic. –Davey2010Talk 19:38, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Comment While Davey's response was inappropriate, i would say that David Eppstein's comment was not the best i've seen from him about another user's edits. I don't think that Davey deserves this block, given that he removed his offensive response.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 19:51, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Exactly Wikaviani, I shouldn't of said what I did but I tried immediately defusing the situation by closing the thread, removing that comment and removing the pointless commentary with it as as I said at ANI the issue was already resolved, @Ingenuity On what planet was David's comment acceptable ?, On what planet is it okay to poke me for absolutely no reason ?. In all honestly David wanted a reaction and like an idiot I gave him one. –Davey2010Talk 20:00, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't think that David was trying to "poke" you, or to get a reaction out of you. It looks to me like they were simply expressing their frustration with your edits. Yes, their comment was quite blunt, but it certainly didn't warrant you telling them to "fuck off". You need to remember to stay civil, even when you think someone is trying to get a rise out of you. If you can commit to being more civil in the future, I can unblock you. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 20:21, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds quite good IMHO.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 20:26, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ingenuity I disagree entirely, I clearly stated in that thread and I quote "{xt|I will cease making whitespace and the "-" changes,}}" so what does him (or anyone) commenting their frustration achieve ?. Not a lot.
I stand by my reply to him - no one asked him to comment and he very clearly wasn't annoyed by my edits so he had no reason to reply there other than to pour petrol on to the fire. (If he was annoyed by me then he would've come here in the first instance).
I would like the ANI thread closed (as my version) and him warned but we both know that won't happen, So I'll wait it out thanks. –Davey2010Talk 20:41, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I can't recall if we're currently on good terms or not, Davey; I know it sometimes changes, but I think we're OK right now? But on the off chance this is useful: If there is some previous history between you and David, then I can see how that might rise to the level of intentional poking, and my view on this would change somewhat. But if not, then you can't just assume it was poking and go to DefCon 1.
There's also the matter of previous history. I know Golbez said "fuck off" to someone else on the same page at roughly the same time, and didn't get blocked. But fair or not, you've got five blocks for "personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy" in a row; I think it would be wisest to assume you've used up your lifetime WP allotment of "fuck off"s. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:44, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • (Just a bit of context: after Davey agreed at ANI to discontinue those types of edits, he immediately tried to remove that functionality from his instance of AutoEd, going to VPT for assistance, and had just gotten it working[7], only to return to the ANI thread to find DE's comment. And Davey did try to remove his response before the block.
Davey's comment was unfortunate but I do want to commend him for not only taking onboard the ANI feedback but actually following through to make changes to the script. Schazjmd (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Floquenbeam, Yeah we're okay I don't think we've butted heads in a very long time thankfully :),
But see this is my point - If I've already said "I'll cease from doing x, y and z" and that "I will mess about with a coding that prevents x, y and z from being done" - What does telling me your frustrations with my edits actually achieve ?, Like how is that helpful to me ?, The damage has already been done and I've already resolved it by messing around with stuff so no such edits can further be made,
I just don't understand why they ever felt the need to comment - I appreciate it's ANI and all but telling me my edits are pointless (no matter how much that may be true) doesn't help anyone even moreso when like I say I stated I would stop and that I resolved it,
There's no history between me and him either, Yeah I was going to mention Golbez but I figured it was probably in my best interest if I didn't, I agree I probably should think of a better phrase but he really did catch me off-guard. I guess I should know by now it's ANI and to ignore the peanut gallery but that's easier said than done, It sucks. –Davey2010Talk 21:17, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
