StatSeason[edit]

Hello Bringingthewood,

You're doing a great job contributing and I appreciate that you didn't give it up. I wanted to bring up this edit that you made on Jason Pierre-Paul. I had a more experienced user than myself revert an edit that I made when I used to remove the statseason attribute and I followed up with them here. They explained to me why we should leave the statseason attribute as the previous year, essentially until they're retired. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:08, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for the barnstar! Red Director (talk) 04:21, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Repeat links[edit]

Hey buddy,

I've seen what you've been up to lately (a lot of your edits show up in my watchlist feed) and I just wanted to bring your attention to MOS:REPEATLINK. You're not doing anything wrong, but duplicate linking in the infobox and tables is actually okay. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:40, 1 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

June 2022[edit]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Dan Fouts. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Gentle reminder re: MOS:REPEATLINKBagumba (talk) 01:45, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Striking my notice for the record. My point about MOSREPEATLINK is a different (and open) interpretation than the previous note that you received above. We can continue to discuss the difference. Sorry for the confusion.—Bagumba (talk) 02:42, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Micah Parsons page[edit]

Hi -- prefacing this by saying I'm still new to editing Wikipedia pages. On the Micah Parsons edit surrounding his tweet, you said "A players belief can be a part of their personal life. If you continue deleting the whole section, you're only showing how you believe." Would just like to clarify that I definitely don't agree with Parsons' tweet, so honestly don't appreciate you projecting that belief onto but don't worry about it. But I fail to see what this paragraph shows about his personal life, nor do I see what "belief" it shows, other than Parsons believed the marine should have been freed. To me, that's far too specific of an opinion on a specific, albeit important, issue to be included on his Wikipedia page. Happy to discuss! 2600:1700:8A10:8950:19F6:BE80:A2AE:A185 (talk) 08:35, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@2600:1700:8A10:8950:19F6:BE80:A2AE:A185 I know what you mean. But, I do agree 100% with what Parsons said. In his personal life, I guess he believes the way some Americans still believe, and I'm glad he chose to share his belief with us. Sorry to say that this site would rather we keep our opinions to ourselves. It saves conflict. One thing, and I'm being dead honest, if Parsons said that what our president did was great and I hope that marine rots in Russia ... I would have left it there also. That's what I meant by removing something. It opens up a whole can of worms. Nice meeting you though. Bringingthewood (talk) 20:51, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The American Football Barnstar![edit]

The American Football Barnstar

Big Hands[edit]

Back in the day, Gary "Big Hands" Johnson was mostly called "'Big Hands' Johnson", notsomuch a standalone "Big Hands". But I guess the MOS can be unclear on how to handle this. I had always interpeted it as not separating it from his full name in the lead.—Bagumba (talk) 01:59, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba I understand what you mean. That's why I left "White Shoes" Johnson alone. But being that "Hacksaw" Reynolds, "Frenchy" Fuqua and "the Refrigerator" didn't get reverted ... I thought I was in the clear, lol.
Bottom line, if I have to think about it ... walk away.
HA! You may have indeed had a message for me just waiting to send after that "Hacksaw" edit. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:39, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I only remember Hacksaw from his late stint with 49ers, so I'm
not as familiar, but names like "Big Hands" Johnson, "White Shoes" Johnson, and "Too Tall" Jones always seemed to be paired with their last names.
Walking away isn't required if you think you are improving things, but it's a matter of what you want to deal with. —Bagumba (talk) 02:46, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bagumba Yeah, the more I say those nicknames, they do sound weird not being part of the name. Frenchy, Hacksaw, Ironhead and the Fridge, maybe I can get away with those. MOS gives two ways and seeing it look like a players middle name never appealed to me.
Good reasoning there --- What do I really want to deal with? ;)
Also, please revert whatever you see that I may have had going in the wrong direction. When you correct something, I try to see the way to do it going forward. It also saves you a messy talk page. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:02, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I try to limit reverts to obvious issues. Here, I can see it was a gray area. And I'm ok if I'm wrong in the end. —Bagumba (talk) 03:10, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bagumba Wrong? No way. You'll never hear that coming from this talk page.
Now the person who created all those gray areas, that's a different story.
Thanks for dropping by. Always appreciated. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:32, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Redacting[edit]

You wrote that "I wanted to strike my 'oppose' earlier, but my computer will not let me". Is that a keyboard issue that you can't enter <s></s>? Or other? —Bagumba (talk) 05:44, 29 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba It was more of a keyboard issue. It may have worked, but I'm a bit nervous with trying some things out. Maybe I should try the Sandbox. I no longer have the preview my edit option. That used to save me multiple edits that made me look even worse than I am with this.

I'm very simple. Using a 2007 Dell with Windows Vista and I type with two fingers .. one edit at a time. Sometimes it's easier to delete, lol. I have to copy and paste every damn thing I do without the symbol section. Thanks for doing what you did. You called that one earlier.  :) Bringingthewood (talk) 06:06, 29 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Got it. No preview, and antsy to manually type something with the symbol toolbar missing. It has it's other challenges, but any chance you have a phone that might be running a more compatible browser? Good luck. —Bagumba (talk) 01:37, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba Yep, that about covers it. Perfect example, I just added a high school city/state to Tony Peterson's page. It would have been done once (if it was done correctly at all) I would have narrowed down the city and then I would have seen the red link. That preview button is sorely missed. I always felt guilty doing extra edits, that's why I try to do three things or so at once when applicable.

HA!! Are you kidding? I'm a soon to be 55 year old dinosaur who never sent a text message. I have a 4G flip phone, lol. When you no longer see me here .. either myself or Mr. Dell died. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:49, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I trust it will be Dell first, but the internet probably saps life out of us anyways. —Bagumba (talk) 01:59, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba I see you're the optimist. Yes, it certainly does. Sorry that I ended up darkening your door, but it's always nice when I meet a good person. Your loss was my gain. (There is a compliment in there somewhere, trust me). I'll let you try to enjoy the rest of the weekend. Bye for now. John Bringingthewood (talk) 02:07, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Statseason[edit]

Statseason should be empty for rookies that have not played any games yet. Setting it to 2023 would only work if they had played games and if the 2023 season had ended. Batgirl-Awsomeness (talk) 22:02, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Batgirl-Awsomeness I agree with you, Batgirl A. Maybe you could send a link with what I did, so I can understand what we're talking about. Not sure why I would have done this to begin with. For rookie pages I have been adding the country of birth and removed some duplicate links etc. Again, please send me something so I could correct it. Thanks in advance, Bringingthewood (talk) 01:18, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Batgirl-Awsomeness Doing some detective work here ... I think you may have meant the edit for Cameron Latu. If so, I was removing the 'high school' wording. The 2023 setting was done by someone in April. I only touch that section for veteran players. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:51, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, I just say that you were the most recent editor. Sorry for the confusion, My bad. Have a great day! Batgirl-Awsomeness (talk) 10:22, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Batgirl-Awsomeness No confusion at all. I know exactly what you mean.

Thanks and you do the same! Bringingthewood (talk) 00:40, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yankees10 (talk · contribs) Yeah, but they came a long way. It was just easier years ago ... I'm kind of stuck here in the middle. Oh well. Btw, I just saw that you got to George Rogers. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:35, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, Bringingthewood and Yankees10—I see from your conversation that I’m causing you more stress than I would wish to cause fellow editors. Obviously we disagree about appending ‘US’/‘U.S.’ to place names in userboxes, and we can continue discussing that if you feel it would be productive, but I think it might be good if I clarify a few things about my editing process that will hopefully set you more at ease.
  • Article order – I have been pursuing violations of MOS:DATECOMMA (and MOS:GEOCOMMA) for the past eight years, and over time I have developed a system in which I rotate daily between lists of articles with such violations. Usually I have a couple subject themes (right now one is ’90s albums and the other is Paris), but I also have a super list of 100,000 articles across all topics in alphabetical order. Sometimes, I draw from all lists evenly; sometimes I preference one. Currently the alphabetical super list is grinding its way through a tedious string of ‘George’ articles, and I’ve been doing just 8–24 edits a week from that list.
  • Reverts – I never make an edit only to remove ‘US’/‘U.S.’, and that includes reverts. I try to keep an eye on edits made immediately after a NoAmCom edit for quality-control purposes, but as a rule I don’t double back unless the subsequent editor restores the MOS:DATECOMMA violation.
  • Two accounts – I use NoAmCom for automated edits and JamesLucas other for manual ones. I have no intention of misleading anyone by this. I have disclosures posted to both userpages, and in eight years no one has raised any concerns about this, but if it’s causing frustration for you, I’m happy to hear feedback.
  • ‘US’ vs ‘U.S.’ – All things being equal, I prefer your ‘U.S.’ to Nikkimaria’s ‘US’. I know they are both officially accepted, so I mention this only because of Bringingthewood’s last comment, which suggests some bias in my edits I’m not aware of?
Hope that alleviates at least some of your frustration. Also: good on you for sticking with Firefox! I caved about a year ago and switched to Vivaldi, which is is Chromium-based but crashes often enough to make me feel like I’m somehow still fighting the good fight. jameslucas ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ 23:45, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

JamesLucas (talk · contribs) and Yankees10 Hello, JamesLucas. Thanks for your message and thank you for preferring U.S. over US. A couple of other editors will like that also. I see you have an agenda and you're sticking to it. It seems that this problem only shows its ugly head when it hits NFL players. We had a vote over there and several users put in a lot of time adding U.S. to many, many players. Being that you have sections, for example George, Thomas, Walter ... you really can't specify who you may run across as an NFL player. So the way the future looks, when myself and Yankees10 see U.S. removed from something we voted on, we can add it back and you would understand our meaning for the edit. Correct? (And yes, I did see that you don't just target a U.S. removal, that's much appreciated.) So what do you think? -- Bringingthewood (talk) 00:06, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I can confidently say that I will continue my policy of not re-editing an article based only on the little bit we disagree over. Because I have multiple source lists, there’s a chance I could visit the same article twice, but that’s happened something like 30 times in 21,000 edits, so if it happens even once to an article you care about during our lifetime, we should all go out and buy lottery tickets. jameslucas ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ 00:31, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

JamesLucas (talk · contribs) Nor do I blame you. This wasn't purposely done. That's why I believe we agree that whatever falls through the cracks in the future ... like an NFL player, we can just add U.S. back and all is well. Like you said, it's such a small percentage and there's no malice. So we're all good? -- Bringingthewood (talk) 00:41, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Assuming this suits Yankees10 too, totally. jameslucas ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ 00:52, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, thanks for this edit, but I see nothing at Template:Infobox NFL biography#Parameters_and_instructions that describes this change. Can you clarify? --Engineerchange (talk) 02:42, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, @Engineerchange. You're very welcome and I'll try to clarify. If you click on that link, two lines under Parameters and instructions you'll see: image / image_size / alt / caption. The last sentence states: When specifying an image, do not wikilink the information. While some leave the city of the team etc., there should be no wikilink present for an NFL biography. No matter what it's specifying. Hope this helped you out. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:54, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

En dash[edit]

Hey John, hope you're well. I noticed edit where you added some en dashes. I'm not sure if you're aware of this script, but if not, I wanted to recommend the script that I use to add en-dashes to pages, which is User:Ohconfucius/dashes. I find it quite useful for sports pages, as most people don't realize that a hyphen shouldn't be used for year ranges or for sports scores. I'll often open up player or season pages and just run the script and it'll find several quick fixes. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:16, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Hey man im josh Hi Josh, doing well and I hope you are also. Thanks for the link, I'll try to give it a shot. With my computer issues I never know what will work. You said en dash for year ranges and scores. I did some team records also, hope that was okay. Real quick, I can't view my edit before I submit it when logged in, but as an IP user I can, go figure. IP[edit]

You mentioned you were sharing a computer with an IP editor. Just wanted to make you aware of the WP:SHARE policy, which isn't an issue if you're editing in unrelated areas. Otherwise, be wary of looking like you're WP:LOGOUT to gain some advantage. —Bagumba (talk) 06:24, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba No, no, no. I'm the IP user. When I'm BTW I see four columns. When I check out my user page without logging in, it's the 3 and 1. The person I asked is an out of state friend, not a member and does nothing with Wikipedia. I asked her to find my name on the T. J. Watt page and look at my user page regarding columns. She saw the 3 and 1. Honestly, I'm surprised you thought such thoughts. Sad to say I don't know what sharing is. :(

Another stupid fact. When logged in I can't preview my edit before submitting. Guess what? Yep, when I saw if I could preview as an IP it works. Since April 6, 2022, nothing has ever been done on Wikipedia by anyone other than Bringingthewood. Not an IP edit from me ... or whatever that sharing thing is. My head hurts, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:35, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bagumba If I used the word 'sharing', I apologize. There is one computer here and again, the person I spoke to was regarding having another set of eyes to check out the column amount. She used her mobile phone to check it out for me. Please back me up if someone thinks I'm trying to be slick about something. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:43, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry if I misunderstood. Again sharing computers, in itself, is not an issue. In any event, my word would count for nothing. It would come down to analysis of the editors behavior, presented diffs, etc. But it sounds like this is all moot. Happy editing. —Bagumba (talk) 06:52, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And I now see what you intended to mean by "I use the same computer as an IP" ie, you making a test on your computer without logging in. No harm, no foul, no blood. —Bagumba (talk) 06:58, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bagumba LOL!! Exactly! But you're not getting off that easily. It took me too long to type this response. Before you sent that, this is what I was sending you: -- Trying to narrow this down to what you might have thought. When I mentioned another IP user, I meant she is not a member and would have to go in and check as a regular IP, she never edited a thing. The other thing I said was I use the same computer as an IP. That meant I use this same old-ass laptop when I login as BTW or stay logged out (IP only) and check what works and doesn't work on my pages. Even that, since April 2022, an edit hasn't been made as an IP user. Bringingthewood (talk) 07:14, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bagumba See, no lying involved. You did get it and thank God all is right with the world again, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 07:16, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Apologies again for the mixup. FWIW, my original post was intended only as FYI without any accusations. But sure, we live in a world now where its all about insults and blame, so sorry if it inadvertently came out that way at all. —Bagumba (talk) 07:23, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bagumba You never have to apologize. Looks like we're on the same level with things (not meaning that I know what I'm doing) I mean that while I was sending messages and trying to stay out of jail, I realized that you were giving me a heads up if I was doing something that shouldn't be done. So I was going to thank you for that. I apologize also, now I feel like crap, lol. Trust me, if I can get the bullets back in the gun after firing them, I'm really not that bad. Right or wrong, I'll always explain myself thoroughly. I'm not going to ruin friendships by doing stupid and deceiving things. That's not me. If we're all good .. I'll let you get back to what's left of your weekend. Regards, John Bringingthewood (talk) 07:40, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There's our answer right there. The reason she only saw 3 columns instead of 4 is because she was on the mobile version, which is different than desktop. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 07:27, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 I can understand that, which is a shame. It only means that the page will have a bad look to most people. There's still one other problem ... I see 3 instead of 4 when I don't login. Same laptop, just not under BTW. That's what made me realize what others might see. I seriously thought that for registered users it would be 4 and IP it would be 3. Maybe it's mobile and IP. Bringingthewood (talk) 07:45, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you go to your preferences at the top right of the screen and then go to appearance, you can change your "skin". Maybe BTW has a different skin enabled than whatever the unregistered default is? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:02, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 It's on Vector legacy (2010). I'm not computer savvy at all. My page looks fine to me, so if I change the skin, I'm guessing it would get worse from my view. Know what I mean? If I never checked it when I wasn't logged in, I would still think it was okay. It's a strange situation and I'm too tired now anyway. After 3AM already. Bottom line, I was just wondering what someone else here might be seeing. Bringingthewood (talk) 08:12, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok, that explains it then. The default is Vector 2022 (which is less wide) so that's why your userpage looks different to unregistered users. I use 2010 too but I don't care. It looks better. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:17, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 I'm surprised that the blue highlight wasn't by Vector 2022, being that it's the default setting. Never thought of touching anything (explosions and all). I could change it, logout, and see what I see as an IP. Curious, do you see four columns now? Bringingthewood (talk) 08:25, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yh, I see four since I'm on 2010. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:32, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, the skin you pick is only seen by you. All IPs automatically see 2022 no matter what you pick. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:34, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 Talk about a headache, lol. So you're on 2010 and I'm on 2010, we both see four. I just logged out and viewed it as an IP. It looks like a flag. One long first column, then two and three. Basically column one was thrown under two. You're saying even though I'm on 2010, what I just viewed was 2022, like what other IP's see? If that's the case, what would changing to default (2022) accomplish? Just asking. I can try it anyway. Bringingthewood (talk) 08:52, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, if you're logged out, you will see 2022 since that's what all logged out users see since they cannot set preferences without making an account. Preferences only work if you're logged into your account. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:57, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 Wow, that was disgusting. I tried 2022, not only do I suffer like the IP user, the rest of my page changed and I couldn't find a damn thing. I got right out of there. Back to 2010. If the majority of registered users see four, that's good enough for me. The IP user should join. Looks like a universal user page can't be created. Oh well. Thanks for explaining what I'm looking at, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 09:10, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yh, 2022 is trash, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 09:18, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 Well, time for sleep. This definitely was an eventful evening/morning. Thanks again for the info and we'll catch up soon. Bye for now. Bringingthewood (talk) 09:22, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
