Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Beckettnoti. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Yana Peel, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 17:59, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Edwardx (talk), I hope that this is now resolved? Beckettnoti (talk) 15:19, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the COI declarations on your userpage and at Yana Peel. It would be helpful if you could set out where exactly your COI lies. Also, from your userpage one might infer that you have had other user accounts on Wikipedia. It would be helpful if you could make a full declaration. For example, do you have any connection to Newcombe45? Edwardx (talk) 15:33, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Edwardx, no I categorically do not have any connection with Newcombe45 or any other account that has previously edited that page. I had one account more than ten years ago with a name that was some variation upon the name xGirl_Razorx or something similar, but it was a long time ago and I really can't remember. What does a full declaration entail? I have tried to replicate templates used by other users. I am starting to find this process quite upsetting. Beckettnoti (talk) 15:39, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No one is trying to upset you, but please bear in mind that almost everyone else editing here (myself included) is an unpaid volunteer. Wikipedia:Conflict of interest states, "Anyone editing for pay must disclose who is paying them, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation; this is a requirement of the Wikimedia Foundation." Edwardx (talk) 16:02, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am not being paid to edit the Yana Peel page. I appreciate the time that you are volunteering for the advancement of Wikipedia, and to learners like me. I am also an unpaid volunteer trying to make meaningful contributions, though at present I am feeling doubtful that I will ever get to having 96,000 under my belt as I'm feeling very deflated about my efforts now. I have met Yana Peel but do not feel that I know her. I have an ad hoc but unrelated professional relationship with the Galleries. Should I put that on my user page as well? Translations to French[edit]

Hey there. I did some work on Djiboutian articles for the Olympics, making it into a good topic. It would be great if that could be translated over to the French Wikipedia. There is a good topic box on my user page that shows all the articles, but it starts with Djibouti at the Olympics, in case you are interested! Kees08 (Talk) 21:40, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
