Adminship

Are you interested? You'll make an interested candidate - but there's precedent for adminship granted to stub sorters. - crz crztalk 15:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

You may indeed be rejected on that basis - but there is precedent for narrow bases for an RfA. See e.g. Art LaPella, who was promoted based on a desire to correct spelling mistakes on the front page. - crz crztalk 16:21, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
So - shall I draft it? - crz crztalk 22:33, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Stub templates

I hope you realize you're messing around with an entire WikiProject. Kingjeff 16:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I think Ignore all rules policy is the policy that should be inforced here since the current stub rules prevent WikiProject Munich from improving or maintaining Wikipedia's Munich-related articles. Kingjeff 17:19, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

RFA -- do-over

OK, I confess to being a little bemused as to what Crz is up to -- in the space of a couple of hours, he's said he's waiting until his (snowballish) RFB is concluded, then archived my followup question without reply, withdrawn his nomination, and gone on a wikibreak. Rather than leaving you hanging around for who-knows-how-long, I'd like to offer to nominate you myself. I should stress this isn't just a mulligan, it's been in my mind for some time to do so, given your "adminish" (and generally helpful) contribs at SFD (and to WSS in the round). I can't offer you any guarantees, but for my money in terms of risk/benefit, it should be a slam-dunk. But some people have some very strange ideas about adminship (the notorious 1FA, and the like), so who knows... Alai 19:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the affirmative part of your followup was useful clarification. :) No real cause for panic, though. OK, I've written up the nomination; if it's not too rambling and incoherent, go ahead and answer the questions, accept, and add it to the "live" list. Alai 01:50, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
My apologies. I am a loser. I stood a lady up :) - crz crztalk 02:29, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Enmopment means the state of having a mop, or the process of being given a mop: I thought that would have been obvious! :) Alai 02:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
My secret weakness for silly words (or alleged words) might not be so secret... Alai 02:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Dubious is a perfectly cromulent-- eh, sensible word! My excessive use of it is (no doubt...) a reflection of my St. Thomasesque/jnana yoga tendencies (to put it in (indubitably) unduly kind terms). Alai 02:58, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey - enough with all the logodaedaly, Alai! I must admit I was surprised about Czr's no-show, too. He asked me to co-nominate (we were passing cryptic messages between talk pages about it for a while). he said he'd let me know when the RfA was ready to go ahead, and then... nothing. Hence my note on the RfA. Grutness...wha? 09:52, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

WP links to stub-cats

Well, one of them is from one Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types: as lazy as I am about adding stuff to /ST, I try to avoid leaving redlinks when deleting cats. Likewise, Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Social Sciences and Philosophy and Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Organizations look like legit cleanup resource pages, I try to update those too. User and talk pages I don't generally bother with, especially if they're just brag sheets or non-current discussions. Alai 00:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

expediting wikipedia processes

Good day, Amalas. I don't want to add a lengthy discussion to your RFA, because I really am quite happy with your contributions and goals. I only have the one thing that nags me, and I figured I'd ask you here, rather than there, so as not to deface or otherwise distract.

What bothers me is your feeling that backlogs must be purged as rapidly as possible. I understand where this want comes from, but I have a counter that I think you may appreciate. In America, a lot of people complain that the government moves very slowly. I'd say that's mostly true. However, while this annoys people, it also prevents those in power from implementing sweeping or unpopular choices without a lengthy process, which as a democracy, is supposed to be transparent. My concern here is that you may be overly concerned with having things done quickly, without realizing the repercussions of doing so. While nobody likes a system that stagnates and gets perpetually stuck in a rut, it's also something of a safeguard to the system.

If I may make one more allegory here, you probably remember the userbox wars that happened earlier this year. While it's not an especially pretty example, it shows what can happen when one or a few administrators take it upon themselves to expeditiously delete articles (insert your favorite admin action and situation here, it's not specific to any one event).

What are your thoughts on that? Do you think there's room for a little bit of extra time in the various administrative processes, or do you think I'm off the mark here? (Really, if you think the latter, I'd like to hear it).

Please don't take this as an affront. I really and truly am thankful for your contributions here (I do a lot of janitorial work myself). I just want to know what your feelings are on "process." ... aa:talk 08:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Uncategorised categories pileup...

I've noticed a number of AWB edits like this one that you made recently, and not just from you. Per this discussion, I've been trying to separate out the "completely uncategorised" and the "uncategorised but stub-sorted" articles, but this is going to be a bit futile if they all end up tagged with both. (Worse still if my bot then retags the extra "uncat" as an "uncatstub", too, and so on...) Is this a default AWB thing, and can it be changed? Alai 00:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I politely request your assistance

I saw your amazing User Page and I got a thinking, mine is well... crap. Can you help me out? :)

I like the way yours looks :P but in terms of theme/colors/style i am not even close to sure, cause i dont know what kind of stuff you can do :P

Your RfA

I am pleased to let you know that, consensus reached, you are now an Administrator. You should find the following forums useful:

Congratulations on your promotion and the best of luck with your new charge! Redux 02:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

CONGRATS! - crz crztalk 02:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations! Despite the shocking lack of padding-out of your image edits, too! I'm sure you'll do an excellent job. Alai 02:06, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Congrats! Now you can delete whatever you want to on Wikipedia! You'll be great. if you ever need any help, you know where my talk page is! Grutness...wha? 02:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Congratualations! You'll make a terrific admin. Valentinian (talk) / (contribs) 11:43, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

You're very welcome. Ironically, I normally rather object to co-nominations, but since I was unwittingly somewhat pre-empting Grutness in the nominations stakes, I thought it'd be a little harsh to demand he be "refactored" as a "pile-on". :) Alai 16:58, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

As I say, I can see why G. did it in this case, as evidently he'd originally planned to, but was "caught on the hop" when I nominated without reference to him (though I do also disagree with planned co-nominations without reference to the nominee). And you're right, it says much more about the nominators than about the candidate, which is why it's so hard to address in a proportionate manner. It's probably not so much a huge concern as a minor irritant; what provoked much of the debate was I think the weak-but-persistent nature of the counter-arguments (the traditional 'instruction creep' and 'harmless' points, which I rather think are on a par with the *FD "it's useful and I like it"; and the likes of Lar's "all my co-nominations were Completely Vital and Uniquely Telling" bluster). But I'm in danger of re-ranting... Alai 17:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations Amalas! I know I went neutral on your RfA, but nonetheless, I believe you will make a fine admin on Wikipedia. If you ever need any admin-related help, feel free to contact me. =) Nishkid64 02:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

20th Century Theatre

Hi, I see that you have edited 20th Century Theatre in the past - I have nominated it for deletion, so you might want to take a glance. Thanks--Dmz5 22:09, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Removing stub parent cats...

What's the thinking behind edits like this? You seem to have done this systematically for all the indies/alts-rocks, but I can't puzzle out why... Alai 04:55, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem, just wanted to check I wasn't missing something vital, as it occurred to me halfway through changing them back... Probably looks bad to RFA someone and then get into an edit war with them. :) Alai 15:40, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I know what you mean... Probably takes me about that long on average to notice edits to stub types I've created, even if they are on my watchlist (uselessly large as it is). I don't want to hurry to close those, for the very reason that I was the nominator in one case, and the person arguing loud and long for deletion in the other. (Which isn't to say I won't, if it comes down to it.) Perhaps you could suggest an "admin huddle" on WT:SFD? Alai 15:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
I feel your pain, I really do. :) Alai 16:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Lobbying stub

I entered my comments and I do have to agree with you on the fact that it is redundant. All I was doing was trying to create the category for the stub. Did you by chance send out a message to the stub's actual creator as well? Chris 21:09, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Tanzanian politician stub

I didn't create the stub categoy intentionally. I intended creating the Category:Tanzanian politicians NOT Category:Tanzanian politician stubs!!! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 18:53, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Thats cool. You see I know the idea of a stub category is e.g when yu have 60 or so stubs to encourage to write into full articles. THis is why I amazed to think that it was me? I was positive I created Category:Tanzanian politicans not a stub category? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 18:57, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Cluj-Napoca stub

This stub and category is needed to develop the articles about Cluj-Napoca and will be used for a period, after that I will propose it for deletion. I need this in order to find exactly the articles that needs to be expanded.--Roamataa 21:06, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
