[1] Hard to tell, now that the record of ip address has been hidden, but the vandalism content looked a little familar? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:59, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that the vandalism done to Nev1's talk page was done by the same person now trolling Malleus (there's this edit, which hasn't been hidden yet). I'm not really sure where they picked the trolls up from...I've only been paying attention to the disruption to Malleus' talk, rather than the root cause. Acalamari 11:06, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Geolocate is a very useful tool. Is that a static ip? Oh dear. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:19, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Caution of your handing out of Reviewer rights[edit]

Please also take into account that the users asking for reviewer rights need to be trusted enough to flag correct revisions of pages with Pending Changes on it. Pending Changes has been approved by the community and will go into effect this December.—cyberpower ChatAbsent 18:51, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, that's true, but when reviewer rights for pending changes were being handed out frequently before the threshold for giving them was low, and as far as I'm aware that hasn't changed? Acalamari 19:47, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey:) Can you please check my request for reviewer rights here? I think you (Acalamari) were the one who assigned me Rollback rights too. Thanks. Till I Go Home talk 12:41, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Till I Go Home! :) Yes, I did grant you rollback rights a few months ago and I've approved your reviewer request. Best. Acalamari 13:12, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much :D Till I Go Home talk 13:23, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! :) Acalamari 13:29, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Going back to what you were saying about the threshold. You need to be able to trust them enough format they won't push their own versions of a revision or that they won't abuse the tool.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems as though it's the same threshold it was previously...some 5,500+ users have the userright! Acalamari 10:22, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Being that you're an admin, I trust your judgement but also, being that reviewer rights are just being handed out again, the bit is not meant for everyone and I do encourage you to exercise caution when giving them out as they now serve two purposes.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:52, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed this thread on my watchlist, which brought me here. Just was curious, so what you're saying above is that you're following the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Reviewing when handing out rights? - jc37 21:10, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I would say so, yes, and I remember the right being handled out fairly liberally the last time it was given out; if I shouldn't be doing this, what other criteria am I supposed to be using? I'm trying to work out why this is such a problem, as I mentioned above in this thread, there are 5,500+ users who already have the right: is some sort of review for the 5,500+ planned? Some of the users I've given it out to recently have similar/higher qualifications to users who already have the right. Thanks also for informing of that thread. Acalamari 21:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You don't seem to be giving the appearance of doing that. There are two purposes for the tool now and some rollbackers that asked for reviewer rights solely for the AFT5 tool should not granted the right because it is already accessible to them through the rollbacker flag. Also another editor you just gave reviewer rights to had around 2000 edits mostly vandal reverts. That to me doesn't give me enough information to grant reviewer rights as they haven't demonstrated knowledge of what is required of them which is listed in WP:REVIEWING.—cyberpower ChatOnline 21:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, one issue here is redundancy with reviewer/rollbacker in regards to AFT5: that doesn't seem a major concern but at least something to watch out for in case of hat collecting or misunderstanding of the userright. However, as I have stated before, the reviewer right was being handed out fairly liberally before: in fact, when the right first came out Courcelles gave it to some 3000 users, and when I returned in early 2011 I gave it out to a significant amount of users, too (but not to the same amount as Courcelles). I will ask this again, how is the threshold/criteria now different to what it was a few months ago when the right was still being handed out? When this has been clarified for me I'll be more strict accordingly, but until then I'm not seeing any difference (and please don't go to AN/I since I said that: I won't be handing the right out again until this has been settled). Acalamari 22:19, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) A quick note about my intended tone: My recollection/experience with you (Acalamari) in the past (though as I think about it, somewhat distant past lol), is you always have been open to discussion, and so not tend to be adversarial in response to questions. And I sincerely hope you remember me in a similar light. (Presuming you remember me at all : )
Anyway. the honest answer is: I don't know. I'm not thrilled that they added these extra tools onto rollbacker (which to my understanding of the original discussion concerning granting rollbacker, was not supposed to happen).
But that aside, reviewer seems to now be a servant of two masters (policies). And I think we may need to re-assess the criteria for Reviewer in that light. But as I don't know exactly what these new tools will specifically do in regards to greater Wikipedia disruption, I dunno how we can ascertain that. See also: User_talk:Okeyes_(WMF)#Reviewer (also noted here with a direct link to bugzilla).
We may need to assess more stringent criteria. but I really don't know if we will need to or not.
So with that in mind, I really can't say if we should be looking more closely at reviewers or not. Maybe just taking a quick look at contribs to ascertain that they have indeed read and understood the questions noted at Wikipedia:Reviewing might not be a bad idea, at least for now. What do you think? - jc37 22:30, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, don't worry Jc37...you're hard to forget! :D I see your name around all the time, and you've popped up in my watchlist quite a few times recently. :) I don't remember when we last interacted, but if we hadn't until today I assume we've just observed each other's behavior. Anyway, I didn't make any presumptions about either yours or Cyberpower's tones here: I don't mind being asked about actions, rather, in this case I've just been trying to work out how what I've been doing recently that has been different to what I did before.
I am glad I'm not the only one who finds lumping new, unrelated tools onto the rollback userright odd. It would have been better to have kept it on the reviewer tool.
Your last point is a fair one. I did do a review of the users I gave the right out to (while it looks like I gave it out to five people within a minute, I had reviewed them then answered them all in one edit), and to explain what I do my reviews consist of this: look at the user's block log, the userrights log, recent contributions, account creation date, and talk page (though I think I missed that last step in the recent batch).
I'm now about to log out for the night: my next response will be in several hours time. :) Acalamari 22:47, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, is it fame or infamy? : )
And nod, I'll be doing that myself in a little bit. (What's this "sleep" thing people keep telling me about? : )
As for rollbacker, Okeyes suggests that I start a new discussion on it, but once it goes "live" I think we could have a drama like few others: (you gave them to me, and now you're taking them?) Though I suppose it wouldn't be too controverial to give reviewer to any rollbacker who asked (presuming that that meets the criteria)
Besides that, it would go live long before such a discussion was done. (That and it's been shown fairly clearly to me recently that I apparently am terrible at clearly explaining such things so that everyone understands. Sigh.)
That aside, it all seems foolishly pointless due to Wikipedia:CON#Decisions_not_subject_to_consensus_of_editors.
ANY-way, all that aside. I think we may need to at least start a discussion regarding criteria for these new user-rights, so that we can know whether and to whom we should be giving them. - jc37 23:00, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I too don't understand why rollbackers have that right and opposed when it was brought up. Even if I oppose it, I still go with it. What I'm trying to say here is that since the last trial, Wikipedia and it's policies have grown substantially. When the trials started, we needed the reviewers to keep up with revisions pending approval. We now have enough reviewers and we should be more strict about it.—cyberpower ChatOnline 23:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Boundary 2 talk page[edit]

Hi,

I am contacting you because some of the material on the boundary 2 talk page (http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Talk:Boundary_2) has been repeatedly removed and/or archived. There are two main editors involved in censoring the material:

http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=User:Steve_Quinn http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=User:Guillaume2303

I would like to read further discussion on the talk page on the questions there. I said this today and it was immediately removed from the talk page. What is a person supposed to do when two or more of these people control a page this way?

Hi Acalamari :} I'm having an issue on the Lisa Gerrard page. A user is claiming they own an image that has been recently tagged as a copyvio, and the user keeps adding it back onto the page. WP: PERM[edit]

Hi! You're right, they just clutter the page, but I should also point out to you that Cyan and I are trainee clerks under BWilkins and Armbrust, and I am allowed to decline certain requests (that's what Armbrust told me). I've already declined one rollback request last week, and I got complemented on it by 3 sysops. Also, in regards to the user from German Wikipedia, I was just copying what TParis said to another person from the German Wikipedia last month. Auto rights[edit]

Hi, I thought I'd ask you a question. While I don't normally create a lot of new articles, I do create a lot of redirects, and I plan to create a few of them in the upcoming months. DO you think I can apply for Autopatrolled? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 09:01, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rsrikanth05, autopatrolled is for users who create new articles rather than redirects; I don't think redirects show up in the new pages log. As such, unless you've created/will create articles of reasonable quality, your request for the userright would likely be declined. Hope this helps. Best. Acalamari 09:17, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Afternoon![edit]

Hey, just a bit of a note that in regards to this users RB request, although I absolutely concur with your decline, please note that it wasn't them who mentioned about UAA being related, it was 'Riley Huntley' who brought it up. Best,--Chip123456 TalkContribs 16:30, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I knew. :) I only mentioned UAA to let others know that I never even considered an insufficient report to UAA a factor in declining the request; I just didn't think it needed a lengthy response to note that. Acalamari 16:37, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, just thought I'd drop a note to clarify. I've just seen your RfB, have you thought about making another?--Chip123456 TalkContribs 16:39, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have modified the post to clarify that the part about UAA was a general statement to address the UAA report rather than a comment directed at any one person. As for RfB, ha ha, yes, that RfB took place a long time ago: my position on the matter is that I am not really interested in running again for now, but I am still open to the possibility at a later date. :) Thanks. Acalamari 16:54, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was very good, the main issue higlighted is that you were too lenient.....in other words your too nice! In time, you'd be a great crat'. This is the second time this week I have said that to someone!--Chip123456 TalkContribs 17:02, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...yes, that and the fact I had been an admin for less than one year. I do remember that some editors were concerned about me being likely to flag any 70%+ RfA as successful without bothering to perform a proper read-through; of course, while it's easy to just say this, recklessly marking every RfA as successful would not be what I would do...even back then! :D Thanks for your kind words. :) (By the way, I hope you aren't feeling discouraged by the discussion on WT:PERM...the goal was to get consensus on the matter, not to drive away useful input!) Acalamari 17:18, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In time, I hope you re-apply. No, I'm not feeling discouraged. The only 2 closes I've made just happen to be on the day that discussion was started. I only really make NAO's there, so the outcome wouldn't really matter to me. I would, however, become more active if consensus if for clerking to be started there. I saw your comment saying I should be informed and I was like 'what?'! It's nice to feel involved with the community so thanks for getting someone to tell me, I wouldn't of seen it otherwise.--Chip123456 TalkContribs 17:35, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. :) By informing you, did you mean this post? I only highlighted you because you'd been mentioned in a couple of diffs and I wanted to ensure that you knew your actions had been noted, not because I thought you had done anything wrong. :) Acalamari 17:45, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, after you posted that diff, somebody informed me on my talk! The whole things is really confusing...I don't know what everyobdy thinks, it's all gone a bit quiet there. Saying that, Armbrust has performed some NAC's since the discussion, so I'm confused whether the non-ads can take this action. We need an old fashioned rfa style vote, because, to be honest, the whole thing hasn't been as handled well as one would of excpected. Thoughts?--Chip123456 TalkContribs 18:22, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion seems to be continuing, albeit more slowly than before. However, I shall be posting to the thread sometime tomorrow in regards to my thoughts on the matter. I'll be logging out shortly, and will post something after some sleep. :) Acalamari 22:38, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine. As your active there, your comments would assist. To keep you updated, NAC's at RPP have been terminated, for the moment.--Chip123456 TalkContribs 16:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keyshia Cole's Wikipedia Page[edit]

Hello. I recently went upon the Wikipedia article of Keyshia Cole to find my rewritten article upon which I spent most time and effort changed majorly. Not only was it changed, but it was filled with unnecessary and false information that I worked so hard to re-write. So therefore, I please ask that you do not edit the article majorly anymore without reputable sources. Thank you. Manuel Mexico (talk) 21:53, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

I reverted the edit because it was a massive change to the page that didn't appear to have any explanation for its implementation; a major edit such as that one should really have sort of explanation so other user know what you've done, otherwise it can lead to editing disputes. I did start a discussion on the article's talk page here in the hope to talk about the changes. Best. Acalamari 07:43, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Normally vandalism isn't revision deleted, but that article involved BLPs and that was a nasty piece of vandalism so it's justified in this case. Thanks for letting me know, and you're welcome for the protection. Acalamari 08:20, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Request at WP:REQPERM/Reviewer[edit]

Acalamari;

I just wanted to write a quick thank you note here. I wanted you to know I respect the decision you made, and I understand why I should wait and diversify my on-wiki activity before simply being thrown a hat - although, I am known as a bit of a savage hat collector. Not necessarily a great trait, but you're halfway to a solution when you acknowledge a problem, right?

So I will waddle deeper into activities that don't just ramp up the edit count. I also appreciate how gently you let me down... To be honest, a little bit of levity in a rejection letter from a Sysop goes a huge way. Especially since in my experience, it is a very elusive trait among Admins.

Hi! I used to edit Wikipedia as an anon but I'm editing now as a registered user and I've seen you frequently around the article Kelly Clarkson and other related articles. Please consider joining the WikiProject Proposal Kelly Clarkson, an effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage and detail regarding the original American Idol.

If you would like to participate, you can visit the proposal page, where you can join the project. Thank you!!!

Chihciboy (talk) 13:58, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Chihciboy! :) I think a Kelly Clarkson WikiProject is a great idea; I actually don't belong to any WikiProjects, and that's not likely to change, but I support the idea of one for Kelly Clarkson and will be happy to add my name to support you and others who want her to have her own WikiProject. :) Acalamari 19:25, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Acalamari! Thanks! I now created the page - Wikipedia:WikiProject Kelly Clarkson or WP: Kelly. (I hope you won't mind. :P). I haven't added your name yet so feel free to add yours. I'll be working on an invite template soon. If you know other editors who might be interested, feel free to ask them too. Thanks again and have fun! Chihciboy (talk) 17:26, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great work! :D Acalamari 12:09, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you review some requests here? There is an admin backlog with week-old requests.--Anderson - What's up? 01:17, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just acknowledging that I have seen your note. I am quite busy at the moment but when I have some more time, and assuming no one has got to them before me, I will respond to the requests. Thanks. Acalamari 12:08, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing that backlog.--Anderson (Public) (talk) 04:02, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hi Acalamari,

Are you able to perform a histomerge? If not would you be able to point me in the direct of being able to do so? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:28, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lil-unique1! What two pages do you need a history merge on? Acalamari 16:06, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Its User:Lil-unique1/Sandbox/4 that needs to be merged into Trouble (Leona Lewis song), though I only want the page history from 16 August 2012 to present day. I dunno if this would be possible? Would be a big favour and help though. Cheers! — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:24, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It'll be tricky, but it can be done. Give me a moment to look into it. :) Acalamari 16:26, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
All done! :) Acalamari 16:33, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers Aca! Its a brilliant job done! — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:45, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Happy to have helped. Acalamari 16:47, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page :)

By the way, what is different about these IPv6 addresses? Have we to handle them any differently when blocking them? I've noticed someone edits from one there's a massive pink banner warning us that they're editing from IPv6 but from what I can see it's no different. Just a little confused as to why a huge banner appears under their contributions!--5 albert square (talk) 16:14, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! :)
The IPv6 addresses are the solution to IPv4 address exhaustion; if you catch an IPv6 vandalizing they can be blocked in the same way an IPv4 one can, there's no need for any special treatment of them. The red banner is to inform people who are unaware of the new IPs that they are IPs rather than a username to be reported! (Some were reported to UAA.) Hope that answers your question. :) Acalamari 16:23, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cambridge fresher's fair[edit]

Hello! I've bid a stall on behalf of the Cambridge University Wikipedia Society at the Cambridge University fresher's fair, 2-3 October. If you are around, it would be great if you can come and help by staffing the stall for a few hours!

The fair will run, roughly, from 9am to 7pm on the 2nd, and 9am to 4pm on the 3rd; details are yet to be confirmed.[2] You certainly won't be expected to stay the whole day unless you really want to! It'll be a sign-up stall for the campus Wikipedia Society, and we'll give out Wikimedia freebies at the event to promote awareness for Wikipedia-editing and Wikimedia UK.

Please contact me if you're interested in helping, even if it's just a few hours. Thanks! (Apologies for double-posting if you've seen this message on wikimediauk-l already!) Deryck C. 22:29, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Small favour to ask...[edit]

Would you be able move User:Lil-unique1/Sandbox/Wildest Dreams (Brandy Norwood song) to Wildest Dreams (Brandy Norwood song)? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 20:58, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done! :) Acalamari 21:03, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mitt Romney endorsements[edit]

Hello, i've taken note of the tremendous help you've been at Obama's, but it would be a great help if you assist in locating sources for Romney. He might not be the guy you'll voe for (same with me), but it would help improve the article. RAP (talk) 19:17 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Rusted AutoParts! Sure! I can do some helping out on Romney's endorsements page; I've only made one edit there, and that was to remove Nicki Minaj after she confirmed her endorsement was only part of a song and not to be taken seriously. I've seen you help out on Obama's endorsements page, so thanks for your help there. Ironically, I can't vote for any candidate in the election, but I'm happy to work on their respective pages. :) I can see a few improvements that need doing, I'll get onto them soon. Disambiguation link notification for October 2[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Chris Matthews, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Rachel Maddow Show (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Rollback feature[edit]

Greetings, I wish to have the rollback feature available for my account, I've been manually monitoring the Recent changes especially the IP's contribution and "undo" the vandalism, but lately I encounter some articles that have "inception-type", multiple edits, that can't be reverted unless manually edited. Please post your reply on my talk page, so I would see your message. --Urville86 (talk) 06:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Spam[edit]

Hi, I'm look at a possible spam from User:86.99.230.227, because it doesn't look like a coded message or in another language. The link is here So, can you help me out? Thanks! 71.167.137.83 (talk) 17:15, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 71.167.137.83, it's not spam it appears to be just a nonsensical post; I've removed it. Thanks for letting me know. :) Acalamari 17:19, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just remembered that last night with the snowstorm I had, all the power went out on my block, and back on for only a few people. It was weird and funny at the same time! 71.167.137.83 (talk) 19:01, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ha ha, thanks Jc37. :D I still haven't gone for RfB again yet, despite requests from others for me to run. :) I appreciate the consideration, but I will not be running for ArbCom this year; in fact, I hadn't even thought about them recently until I saw the watchlist notice! Please help, user is harassing me[edit]

Hello, I feel I need to bring an administrator in on this one. User MarchOrDie is edit-harassing, and is going through and undoing hours of my work. I'm currently making edits to various marine mammals' "see also" sections. I was adding variations of this:

  • "See also"

...Followed by one or two "see also"/s (as necessary), including only topics appropriate to add for each species. I was doing this because I am very passionate about cetaceans and all marine mammals, and I feel like adding these page links would help people get better access to information about these animals, especially when they aren't familiar with the family and genera terminology that many of the lists use to record them.

MarchOrDie is claiming to me that my edits are random, and has gone through and removed hours of my work. I have asked him to stop erasing my edits, but he persists in doing so and refuses to discuss this in a civil fashion. It is getting to the point where I am feeling harassed by MarchOrDie, and I am asking you, please, as an administrator, to intervene.

Thank you for your time.

-- 7partparadigm

PS: Edit histories for the pages in question correspond to the marine mammals in this list: List of whale and dolphin species.

7partparadigm is making a lot of similar edits to whale-related articles, in particular adding a certain set of things to the "see also" sections. MarchOrDie is asking him to modify his approach, and for some reason this is getting a bit nasty. *sigh* ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 04:43, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This looks like a content dispute, which I don't usually get involved in (and administrators don't have more say in disputes, anyway). I note that ErikHaugen has intervened: what would you like me to do that he hasn't already? Acalamari 10:25, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Though I intend to be back active in the future, I will remain inactive for an indefinite time Acalamari. But thank you for extending a warm welcome back. You are always such a sweetheart.
