MIT great dome image

I've added this to Image:Mitgreatdome.jpg: Photographed circa 1964, from a location on the banks of the Charles River on the Boston Side, via a time exposure with a 180mm lens on a 35mm camera. The image is still linked from the article on The Gadget Maker but has been replaced with a different one in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology article. Broadcast database

The Industry Canada database isn't structured in such a way that it's usable as a resource to help write Wikipedia articles about radio or television stations. For example, it can't be extrapolated into an FMQ or TVQ template the way the FCC's can. The only place on Wikipedia in which I've ever raised the lack of a CRTC database was specifically within the context of what resources one can use to write Wikipedia articles about Canadian radio stations -- since the Industry Canada database isn't a particularly helpful resource for that purpose, my comment stands. Mutual funds as trusts

I stand corrected. US Mutual Funds may be structured as trusts.

However you have misread my intentions in the edit I made. I have spent a long time trying to remove the heavy US bias in many investment articles and especially in the article 'mutual funds'. If you look back through the history you will see the article assumed all collective investments were sub-types of mutual funds whereas the SEC makes clear distinctions for the US and this is definitely not the case elsewhere in the world. To try and counter the bias I started the article collective investment scheme to give a world view. Furthermore I added the two descriptions in the lead paragraphs of the mutual fund article to spell out the US and non-US usage and added a statement to make it clear the remainder of the article follows the US meaning and added link to the collective investment article for all others.

I assumed the US regulator in stating 'MF = open-end companies', meant that they were all companies now I have followed the link to the legislation it is apparent that the 'management company' is what's being referred to and that "any redeemable security of which it is the issuer" may well refer to a trust. Public Radio vs NPR

My interpretation comes from reading the websites for stations WHYY.org, WNYC.org and NPR.org and PRI.org. A public radio station, or groups of stations in one state, is an independent non-profit business entity that pays a yearly fee to get programming from NPR, and in addition pays a per show fee for each show they broadcast. Some stations sell their programming back to NPR for distribution, and they receive a fee. NPR also sells their content to XM Radio. The independently owned stations buy their programming from NPR and PRI and APM, and of course some just play music, and some produce their own content. If you visit a staion website they list themselves as members of "BBC" "PRI" and "NPR". It is not like the US TV affiliate system where a station must contract with only one of the content providers to be able to receive programming for broadcast. Being a member station to NPR means you pay the yearly fee to NPR which allows you buy programming. The other wording made it sound like the arrangement similar to TV affiliate "all or nothing" contracts. What part do you disagree with?

I think I am confused by the word "network". I am not sure who the network is, and who is paying the dues to whom. Perhaps if you were to fill it out a bit more so its clearer to me. I only know how the New Jersey Public system works. There are about 6 transmitters and they get their funding from the state of New Jersey, The National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities, corporations and pledge drives. The money pays for operating expenses and is used to purchase programming from NPR, PRI and APM. A lot of the details of how the Public radio system works came out when people were complaining when NPR was given its multi million dollar donation, and the local stations (NPR member stations) complaining that they deserved the money more. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 03:37, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the page is about call-signs. However, if you study callsigns, you'd also know that suffixes are important, as they also denote broadcast classes (-LP, -CA, -TV, and so on). DVB-C

Its not an assertion, and feel free to correct it, but "64/256 QAM" are modulation modes (which happen to be the two valid modulation modes on DVB-C), not entire platforms. There is also the statement from the DVB Group [1] stating that its in use in the US. However, even if the main cablenets are not using it, "64/256 QAM" is not a transmission system. --Kiand 02:58, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I was trying to find something that you created (there was nothing) so that I could edit it just for kicks, then you could see how I feel. I spent a lot of time editing not only the content, but also the location of various disconnected informational sentences, so that the article not only had proper grammar, but also proper form. Brant Rock radio tower monument

Hi. I live in Kingston, Ma. I saw the pic you took of the monument marking the space where the radio tower was in Brant Rock. I'm interested in checking it out. Where is it exactly? I noticed the trailers / campers /rvs in the background which leads me to believe that it is probably in or near that large campground at the tip of Brant Rock. Am I warm? "Vermont" television stations located elsewhere

I would think that an antenna on Mansfield would qualify as a Vermont-located TV station. But I receive Radio Moscow. Putting this station down as a Vermont Radio station is, to say the least, frivolous. It would be intellectually dishonest. WGBH

The original article WGBH is about the entire station including both television and radio. The Introduction, the History section, the Transmission facilities section, the Studios section, the Callsign history section, and the Identification and sounder section all apply to the WGBH in general, not only the television station. While it may be appropriate to have a separate article about WGBH-TV, the original WGBH article is not specifically about the television station (or the radio station). So, as the article practically is about WGBH in general, and the WGBH is the primary topic from which WGBH-TV and WGBH (FM) fork, it makes sense to start with WGBH and then move things out to WGBH-TV or to WGBH (FM) as appropriate, rather than to move everything not about television to WGBH-TV. —Centrx→talk • 07:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

hi - thanks so much for your response. i really appreciate the citations you gave to broadcasting and advertising magazine in the wiki article - i'll pull those up. i'll also have to contact the NPRC again - i had spoken with somebody there some years ago who seemed more interested in closing out his project than in conducting a thorough search (he said he could find no file, which never made sense but i never pursued it). i'm not sure how much depth you're interested in for a wiki page (or the FCC project you're working on), but if you'd like, i have a copy of a lengthy baltimore sun article announcing his retirement and providing an overview of his career, as well as his saturday evening post article "Phone Me By Air" that has been cited by some as predicting cell phones - i'd also be happy to PDF these if you think that would be helpful

also, what is the source behind the fictitious name he used to enlist? family lore has it that he signed up using the name of his older brother, which may also explain the difficulty i had tracking down his military file . . .
