 Basic copyediting
Discovering that pages need basic copyediting may surprise new visitors to Wikipedia. This is because the encyclopedia is a dynamic work in progress, published while it is being developed and updated in real time by people all over the world. Millions of the articles need simple improvements. You don't have to be an expert to edit Wikipedia. Just click the edit tab at the top of the page and start typing away! Copyediting involves the "five Cs": making the article clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent. So, if you see something you can fix, click on the "edit" tab at the top of the page, and start typing in the edit window to fix it. Be bold. And, if there are any facts you know about the subject that are missing, then please, add them in! For general help with editing, see Wikipedia:How to edit a page. - Tomorrow's FA (Featured Article)
The Take Ichi convoy was an Imperial Japanese Navy convoy of World War II. Under the command of Rear Admiral Sadamichi Kajioka (pictured), the convoy left Shanghai on 17 April 1944, carrying two infantry divisions to reinforce Japan's defensive positions in the Philippines and western New Guinea. United States Navy submarines attacked the convoy on 26 April and 6 May, sinking four transports and killing more than 4,000 soldiers. These losses caused the convoy to be diverted to Halmahera, where the surviving soldiers and their equipment were unloaded. The failure to bring the two divisions to their destination without loss contributed to the Imperial General Headquarters' decision to move Japan's defensive perimeter back by 1,000 km (600 mi). The divisions' combat power was also blunted by their losses, and while they both saw action against United States Army forces, they contributed little to Japan's attempt to defend its empire. "Wikipedia better than Britannica", claims experienced dictionary-writer. Good ol' Beeb. Several sections of the BBC have a policy of using Wikipedia unashamedly (good on them). BBC article March 2009: "UK politicians' Wikipedia worries" is largely pro-Wikipedia, despite its title. BBC article 2007: "Students 'should use Wikipedia'" it says, partially quoting Jimmy Wales. Some BBC articles rely heavily on directing readers to WP, e.g. this article on WW2 code-breaking. The Electoral Reform Society (ERS) (here) directs viewers to Wikipedia's Counting Single Transferable Votes article. The Daily Telegraph's on-line website section provides an RSS feed from Wikipedia (here), above its own Technology RSSs, but ironically still propagates old anti-Wikipedia stories (here) ! BBC article 2005: [1] The results of an analysis of a broad range of entries from the websites of Wikipedia and Encyclopædia Britannica] states that "... reviewers also found many factual errors, omissions or misleading statements: 162 and 123 in Wikipedia and Britannica, respectively.". When the Moon is closest, it is at perigee, and it looks slightly bigger from Earth. Perigee is the point at which an object makes its closest approach to the Earth. Often the term is used in a broader sense to define the point in an orbit where an orbiting body is closest to the body it orbits. The opposite is the apogee, the farthest or highest point.
